The Green Party's Marianne Butler has hit out at those responsible for last weekend's blazes
Louth County Council is holding discussions with farmers, An Garda Síochána and Coillte in relation to the problem of fires on the Cooley mountains.
The Green Party's Marianne Butler sought an update at the local authority's monthly meeting saying the fires last weekend were dangerous.
Director of Corporate Services Joe McGuinness said there is a legal issue involved and explained that prescribed burning can be allowed in certain circumstances.
He added that a forum to discuss the issue is being set up.
