Coronavirus vaccine testing starts in Charlotte region
Rollout of an experimental COVID-19 vaccine started this week at Atrium Health facilities across the country. The clinical trial will test the safety and effectiveness of a Novavax vaccine to combat coronavirus.  
While testing is already underway, the company is still looking for people interested in signing up for the trial.  
Here are three things to know about the vaccine and how to apply for the trial:
1. Different than already in-use vaccines. 
Coronavirus vaccines manufactured by Pfizer and Moderna work by introducing a new "spike protein" to the human body, promoting immune cells to break down the proteins in order to learn how to combat and protect against them.
