Convicted killer who stabbed prison guard in the head with a home-made ‘shank’ deserves his second life sentence: Pa. court
Updated May 11, 2021;
A convicted killer who already was serving a life prison sentence deserves the second life term he received for stabbing a corrections officer with a home-made shank, a state Superior Court panel ruled Tuesday.
In an opinion by Judge Mary Jane Bowes, the court rejected Quydeem Hawkins’ claim that prosecutors didn’t prove he intended to harm anyone when he sliced open the officer’s scalp during an August 2018 melee in the dining hall of the state prison at Fayette.
