MASSILLON Early levee work has finished, with the heavy equipment set to roll in the spring.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has completed building access roads to upcoming work sites along the Tuscarawas River for its $22.5 million project to repair the levee, which protects the city. Eight roads were built on some northern and eastern parts of the waterway.
Project Manager Ramon Mejia, of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Huntington District, said final inspections for those roads were done Dec. 2 in the area of Ernie's Bike Shop, 135 Lake Ave. NW. Others routes were completed around Cherry Road NW and state Route 21, which — along with Finefrock Road SW — should see periodic lane restrictions once the main project begins.
