Computers To Get High-Speed Data Transmission Links
THE Post Ofice are studying circuits with a bandwidth of 48 kc/s for possible application to high-speed data transmission. Although this facility would be expensive, and long-distance links would require repeatering, such a link would be capable of feeding a computer directly.
So, 60 years ago, opened a story in Electronics Weekly’s edition on April 12th 1961.
The story continues:
This was announced by Mr. M. B. Williams of the Post Office Engineering Department at a three-day conference in London last week on character recognition, data transmission and document handling.
The meeting was organised by the Northampton College of Advanced Technology and the British Computer Society.
