BEAUMONT, Texas — Friends, family and community leaders gathered at One City Church Friday afternoon to remember W.L. Pate at the longtime city councilman's funeral.
He passed away over the weekend from what his family is calling a rare lung disease. Pate was 73 years old.
At the funeral, the community mourned the loss of someone they called a local hero.
It was an emotional day as family shared their memories of the man they knew as "Bubba."
