AUGUSTA, Ga. — After two near-misses, the Missouri Valley College men’s soccer team claimed the ultimate prize.
“It feels amazing to get it done,” declared head coach Vladimir Simic following the Vikings’ 2-0 victory Monday over Oklahoma Wesleyan in the NAIA National Championship match at Augusta, Ga.
Valley had reached the finals in two of the last three years, losing in double-overtime in 2017 and on penalty kicks the following year.
The loss was to Heart of America Conference rival Central Methodist, also the ’19 champion and a formidable obstacle to the Vikings’ goal. However, having lost to the top-ranked Eagles twice this season, No. 4 Valley pulled off an upset Saturday with a convincing 4-2 victory.
