The Douglas Munro, the last of the high-endurance U.S. Coast Guard cutters, was decommissioned in Kodiak on Saturday, an event that attracted high-level Coast Guard officials and state legislators to the island. Â
Among the attendees were Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Karl Schultz; Vice Adm. Linda Fagan, commander of Coast Guard Pacific Area; and Rear Adm. Nathan A. Moore, commander of District 17.Â
Representatives from the U.S. and state legislatures were also present, including U.S. Sens. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) and Dan Sullivan (R-AK), and speaker of the state house Rep. Louise Stutes (R-Kodiak).Â
The group met with veterans and constituents at American Legion Post 17 in downtown Kodiak on Friday evening.Â
