FAIRMONT â The Northern Appalachian Coal Mining Heritage Association has added several new pieces to its museum exhibit at Arts and Antiques Marketplace in Fairmont, an exhibit the association is now calling âFairmont Coalfield â The Six Counties.â
The nonprofit unveiled the new pieces, which include a piece of an authentic coal shaft line and a map connecting prominent memorials and coal sites across Barbour, Marion, Monongalia, Harrison, Preston and Taylor counties, according to Ksenia Bradner, an AmeriCorps volunteer with the association.
â(The coal shaft line is) the cart would go on with coal in and out of the mine,â Bradner said. âThey took a lot of work. We got some students from Fairmont State University to come and paint (the coal shaft).â
