The Cellular Operators' Association of India (COAI) has written to the civil aviation ministry in India, requesting a strict deadline for phasing out old altimeters used by Indian airlines. This is in order to facilitate the rollout of 5G services in areas around airports. The industry body has asked for the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to mandate all airlines to replace non-conforming radio altimeters within 18 months.
