Afford four more years of Donald Trump. As Jack Smith shows the country new evidence alleging how the former president tried to undo democracy. And Melania Trump, silent for most of the campaign, now speaking out on one of the most contentious issues in the race. In a new memoir and video, she takes a position directly at odds with her Husbands Party. But the Government Shouldnt tell the women what to do when it comes to abortion. Our manu raju, lets go behind the headlines and Inside Politics with the campaign. A major Port Strike threatens to unravel economic progress that is critical to the harris reelection argument. And then theres this. Rockets again flying in the Middle East. An Overnight Strike by israel in beirut, killing at least nine people is just the latest episode in a week filled with escalation towards all out war. Lets go straight to cnns arlette saenz, who is in florida waiting for the arrival of President Biden. Arlette, the president spoke at the White House that the White House right now is dealing with this trio of challenges, both at home and abroad. And before President Biden left to travel here to florida to survey the damage after Hurricane Helene, he was pressed on how he thinks israel should respond to Iranians Barrage of missiles that were fired at israel. Just earlier this week. Now biden has already said he does not think that israel should target irans nuclear facilities, but hes not ruling out the possibility that they could target oil refineries. Take a listen would you support israel striking Irans Oil facilities . Sir, were in discussion. I think i think that would be a little. Anyway, the plan to allow israel to strike back against iran. First of all, we dont allow israel. We advise israel and theres nothing going to happen today. Well talk about that later officials have maintained constant contact with the israelis as theyre trying to advise them to take a proportional response to iran at a time when the u. S. Is concerned about this conflict widening, even further. And the situation in the Middle East which also has domestic implications here at home, is playing out just a few weeks before Vice President Kamala Harris and Donald Trump Face Off in the election. And it comes at a time when theres other challenges that the White House is grappling with. There is the Port Strike, which could have economic repercussions that theyd have to deal with if it continues on for a long time and then there is the Recovery Efforts after Hurricane Helene. That is where President Bidens immediate focus is today he, any minute now is set to take an aerial tour of the big Bend Area of florida. That is a region that was hit very hard by Hurricane Helene when it made impact here about a week ago. This is actually the second day in a row that President Biden is touring these devastated areas across the southeast. The president will be landing here in perry, where i am, and then travel over to keaton beach, where he is set to see the devastation in that residential community. Many of the homes there completely destroyed. Now, President Biden is not expected to appear with governor Ron Desantis here in the state today. The White House did not say if the two had spoken, but he has spoken with Georgia Governor brian kemp, as biden is preparing to head to that state a bit later this afternoon. The White House right now is really focused on trying to show that they have their arms wrapped around the Response Efforts in Hurricane Helene as so many communities across the southeast have been devastated. All right from perry, florida, where the president is set to arrive to survey the damage there on the ground. Thank you for that report. And i want to bring in my excellent panel of reporters. Cnns Jeff Zeleny Margaret Talev of axios and Laura Barronlopez of pbs newshour. Good to see you all. So we are we are done now with the parts of the campaign that we knew were going to happen. The debates, the conventions and now we are full on October Surprises, if you will. We have what happened and whats happened in florida the tension escalating, tension in the Middle East, strikes among Port Workers this is this could this change whats been a very very remarkably steady and even race . Look, its hard for me to imagine one single defining event being big enough or consequential enough to change the campaign in ways that others havent. Look back to july an Assassination Attempt the change of the democratic nominee. I mean, this race has been filled with sort of one Whiplash Moment after another. So i do not believe that there will be one singular event that will change the Trajectory And Break open. This really stubbornly close race however, so many pieces now, so many challenges now are tied together. I mean the Hurricane Effort is going to show the effectiveness of the government. So thats why we see President Biden there. Vice president harris already visited is going back to North Carolina. The former president visited. Hes going back. You have to wonder if some of these officials are going to be like, okay you know, send help and money, but stay away. Yeah, but at this point, this is going to become a yes. Its seven Battleground States, but its even fights for swing counties inside these Battleground States. Its so close. So the campaigns are focused on a trying to get their supporters out and be those sliver of persuadable voters there. But for all the talk of the October Surprise, id like history. The phrase was coined in the 1980 campaign by ronald reagans campaign manager, worrying about Jimmy Carter pulling an October Surprise by getting the hostages released that would help him. Of course, that did not happen during the campaign. Every campaign since then, i think its an overused phrase. I would be surprised if theres one singular surprise that could shake up this surprise. If theres another October Surprise but heres a surprise we have actually a trip down Memory Lane about some of the things that did occur in the final weeks of the campaign and what impact did they have . Watch 24 years ago, i was apprehended in kennebunkport, maine, for a the Stock Markets suffer historic losses. There are 47 of the people who will vote for the president No Matter What. During i think we also saw whats brightest in america. You can do anything, whatever you want. Grab them by the they have discovered new emails for ruth bader ginsburg, who was far more than merely a Supreme Court justice, has died. I mean, summer, september. So, september. Surprise but still close enough to the campaign. But it just you know, theyre out of your control and you know, rbg dying that changes the dynamic of the of the race. Hurricane sandy in 2012, when obama was with chris christie, the infamous Bro Hug on the tarmac, Mitt Romney was so happy about that. Yeah, i think that montage just goes to show that sometimes the October Surprises make a difference and sometimes they dont. One of the big differences, certainly since the reagan era, is that the October Surprise voting happened on election day, and now you do have early voting in so many places in so many states already. What is it, a half a dozen states already are in the process of Voting Ballots are out. People are making their decisions smaller and smaller. It might be 10 , it might be 3 . So in so many ways, this election is baked in the cake. The reason why these unforeseen events or uncontrollable events, i mean, what happens on the World Stage or with Mother Nature is beyond the control of any sitting president from either party, No Matter What they tell you on the stump. But if it is down to a half a Percentage Point in a key state, sure, that could matter. That could be the thing that tips it. And look at just how steady this race has become. Just to get a sense of the polling. August and september, how things are just really within the margin of error in almost all of these key races. Only this abc ipsos poll from september was outside of the margin of error of about five points. Harris over trump, Everything Else was pretty much within the margin of error. And even this race is so razor thin it could really go either way. Yeah, to margarets point, so many people have already made their decision and there is only a small segment of the population that has not decided. And i was just in arizona and nevada, just got back last not necessarily paying attention to the escalation in the Middle East. Its not really Foreign Policy is typically not what voters ultimately make their decision on. Now, when it comes to the disasters across the south, the southern states, to me, the impact that it could have on the most is those specific states. So North Carolina georgia and how voters ultimately vote in those two Swing States and whether they vote right or whether they vote because a source in North Carolina was just texting me saying that theyre concerned about the ability to even conduct the election in parts of the state that are ravaged the most. So that is something that would impact peoples votes potentially in those specific states more than the rest of the country. And you mentioned Foreign Policy as this is escalating between iran and israel question from a Cnn Poll just out recently about who you trust. More on Foreign Policy. Trump actually is up 47 to 40, but just 2 of likely voters in that poll said that it was their top issue. So how would they deal with the issue of iran and what is happening here . Trump was asked about this just before we saw some of the more and more recent strikes about how he would deal with iran deal make a deal with them. Now, after everything thats happened, if you make a deal with who, make a deal with who would you try to make a deal with iran of some kind . If you were reelected . Sure, i would do that. Yeah, i believe in i believe in getting you know, it, doesnt it doesnt matter. I have a i have a great memory, but its a memory that wants to serve the people. We have to make a deal because the consequences are impossible. We have to make a deal. Make a deal he withdrew from the iran nuclear deal so what . What the former president wants people to think in the messaging is that um, The World is in chaos and thats somehow the sitting president and his vice when he was the president , um, you know, the the current exact current situations werent going on. Um, the polling suggests that actually many americans do buy that argument, but they are also the americans largely, that already want to support Donald Trump. So i think again, where it really matters is in that crossover camp. And for those voters, are they more concerned with that than they are with reproductive rights or the future of the american economy . But instability is not Vice President Harriss Friend here in this, she was hoping for much calmer waters at this point in the Middle East. Yeah well see what happens and how it affects voters in this razor thin race. All right. A sentence that is hard to believe, or at least at one point, it was Liz Cheney hits the Campaign Trail Today for a democrat. Thats coming up this election. This is cnn later today, one of the big name republicans who has endorsed Kamala Harris is joining her on the Campaign Trail. Thats Liz Cheney, who will be out with her in the crucial Battleground State of wisconsin. Its all part of an effort to move undecided voters away from Donald Trump ahead of the election. Cnns Eva Mccann is live in ripon, wisconsin. So eva walk us through what you know about this event and the significance about where its happening well, we are in ripon wisconsin. This is known as the birthplace of the Republican Party and it is here where the Vice President will make a direct appeal to republican in independent voters. And the message will be quite clear. She will argue that a Harris Administration would be principally concerned upholding the Rule Of Law and democracy, and that even though these voters may have some disagreements with her on policy matters it is these fundamentals that are most important. She will have former congresswoman Liz Cheney longtime republican, up on that stage with her tonight here to bolster that message. The campaign also investing in this strategy with a new ad featuring a man that supported the former president in 2016 and 2020. Take a listen. Look, i voted for Donald Trump in 2016 and 2020. I thought he was going to help hard working people, but it turns out hes all about himself. Trump cares for his cronies, people that are very wealthy. He will not lower my taxes in wisconsin where they are touting this message they have republican surrogates fanned out across the next four days across the Battleground States. But listen, not all democrats think that this is the best strategy. Some democrats tell me that they think that the campaign should be investing instead in shoring up the base of the party and key Constituencies Core to the coalition by comparison, the Trump Campaign Isnt employing something similar. They do have democrats, former democrats on the Campaign Trail for them. But there is no democrats for trump equivalent. But listen, i spoke to wisconsin democrats here and they endorse this strategy they say that it is actually one that they use cycle after cycle. Ripon of county but they still rely on the democrats here to turn out the vote and to ultimately win in the state yeah, manu could cut down their loss, narrow down that margin. Thats their hope. At least well see if Liz Cheney makes any difference at all. Even mccain, who is live for us on the ground there in wisconsin. Thank you. Panel is back. So lets assess this. There was some good news for harris. According to a Marquette Law School poll that recently came out that has her leading by 11 points among likely independent voters in wisconsin. Well see. Its outside the margin of error well see if thats how thats consistent with other polling as well. But how does this make a difference . Cheney, on the Campaign Trail, i think it can. Again, were talking about at the margins and and in a Swing State like wisconsin, the Margins Matter slicing off any little bit of the electorate that you can get, especially if she thinks shes going to lose other parts of the base that maybe arent Coming Home she could potentially expand her votes with these disenchanted republicans, with these independents who might be more in the middle A Little Bit to the right, and they hear from someone like Liz Cheney whos as conservative as they come, who probably disagrees with harris on almost every single policy except for Foreign Policy like ukraine and the Middle East, saying, look, thats not what matters. This Election Cycle matters is the constitution. And when i was just in arizona i did a roundtable with disenchanted republicans who at various points had voted for trump. Some didnt, but others had. And were going to feature that next week on pbs newshour. But one of the voters said that January 6th, he voted for trump in 2020, and January 6th was his reason. The Rule Of Law was his reason why he was not going to vote for trump again. And just to that point about how do voters view the issue of democracy . This is according to a Cnn Poll, a national poll of likely voters, 21 of likely voters. Thats a significant margin of national poll, likely voters. Thats below the economy, of course, which is always the dominant issue here, but above other issues. But then when you ask wisconsin voters, according to the New York Times Siena Poll about the issue of democracy being the most important issue according to this poll, 5 , thats the lowest of these issues that were rated here so how does that play . I mean, the issue, its big for a lot of harris voters, but independent swing voters. Is this an issue that could change how they view the race . Well see again on the margins. I mean wisconsin was a very slim win for biden last time. And as lauren was saying, i mean, the Margins Matter in wisconsin. But those independent numbers, i think, are very interesting of all the wash of Polling Information that is really out there, its kind of a whiplash in some respects. Those independent voters in that marquette survey, thats a very trusted poll. Harris is gaining significant ground on trump in that. So look, i mean, look at the numbers there. That is her biggest lead really among any cohort. So i think it does matter to a degree, a question i have is she also going to sort of energize the Maga Base there as well . Liz cheney has become really a symbol of, you know, for the trump folks, someone who they dislike intensely. So you know, thats one of the questions here with all this travel going on, all the candidates going, you can sort of fire up the other Persons Base as well. But i am anxious to hear her remarks. This will be the most high Profile Appearance of Liz Cheney. She has endorsed harris. Last month shes spoken about this a bit at Duke University last month, but shes never given a fulsome speech. Im told she will introduce the Vice President tonight and just that image there on stage, its nothing we could have imagined all that long ago. A fun wisconsin fact. Liz cheney was born in wisconsin, in madison. Yes her parents were graduate students at the time. Your alma mater, of course so go badgers. Go badgers. The only time ill say that we should clip that and show that and show that at wisconsin events. Thank you for for saying that before you jump in, i do want to talk about the, you know. Yes shes gotten some Support Harris has from some republicans like Liz Cheney. But there are also some democrats who are moderate democrats some from Swing States, some districts who are not quite there yet on Kamala Harris, i actually just was in montana over the last couple of days, the most perhaps the most pivotal senate race, one that could actually determine control of the united states senate. Depending if the incumbent democratic senator, Jon Tester, can hang on to his seat in that red state. And i asked him about whether hes willing to get behind Kamala Harris and actually vote for her. Harris harder for you. Youre not endorsing her so. Well, thats because i dont want this race to be nationalized any more than they want it to be nationalized. I want to talk about montana. Thats what this race is about. But would you vote for her . Thats between me and the ballot box. But do you think that she would make the country better if she was president . Um, look, ive things you said because shes moderated a lot of issues, which is what happens when you get to be in a position where you are going to make a difference yeah. Reaction that pretty much says it all. It is going to be Liz Cheney with Kamala Harris, not Jon Tester with Kamala Harris, and that is the state that hes in. And that is the moment that this race is in. Going back to some of that trivia though, A Little Bit of wisconsin intrigue, the reason that that place is considered the birthplace of the republican called the little white schoolhouse, which was a schoolhouse. There is a meeting in 1854 which essentially was a breakaway movement. Um of political leaders who wanted to oppose the expansion of slavery dont know how sticky this messaging will be with voters, but some of the symbolism of what Liz Cheney is doing is saying things that are more important than who gets elected, or then perpetuating her own majority. Sometimes you have to break away from what a political party represents. When you dont agree with what it represents, and that is part of the symbolism of what shes trying to tell republicans. Look, its more important to believe in democracy than it is to back trump and to tell democrats its more important for us to join together regardless of our different social views, because of this, this bigger thing. And were seeing some scrambled political lines, if you will, in this election. And theres much amazing testimony and theres much more, actually, of my conversation with senator Jon Tester tonight. Catch that interview along with whats going tonight and out front with erin burnett. Thats at 7 00 eastern. All right. Next, a republican ally of Donald Trump joins me. What does he think of the Special Counsels evidence against the former president . And how should the u. S. Handle the Middle East teetering teetering on the brink ive been saying publicly what people are saying to themselves, i have enough money. I could just shut up. Enroll today eight on Cnn Counterstrike and biden is refusing to rule out an israeli airstrike on iranian Oil Reserves in retaliation for the latters historic Missile Attack on americas ally. Earlier this week. Those discussions are ongoing according to the commander in chief, who told reporters today. Nothings going to happen today and this less than 24 hours after biden declared that he does not support an israeli air attack. Israeli attack on iranian nuclear sites. Joining me now is republican Congressman Brian Mass of florida. Hes a member of the house foreign affairs committee, a decorated Army Combat Veteran and a purple heart recipient. Congressman, thank you for taking the time and joining me. I really appreciate it. Uh so i want to get your response to the president s position there about his concerns about an attack on an israeli attack on nuclear facilities in iran. Would you support an israeli strike on iranian nuclear facilities . Yeah. Let me start by answering in the affirmative yes, i would support that. And lets use a term that a lot of people are throwing around that theyre worried about. Theyre worried about the idea of escalation. But i would argue, you know we use that term escalation. Theres good and bad escalation. And when were talking about this, this is a good escalation when your ally is escalating the attack and preventing your enemy from escalating because theyre destroying all of their forces, or theyre destroying what we were very worried about iranian nuclear facilities. If theyre destroying those things, that is a good escalation for us. But what i mean, wouldnt that be potentially catastrophic . The implications of attacking nuclear sites, maybe even leading to Nuclear War . Well, youre looking at a situation of when it depends on what type of nuclear site youre talking about. Are you talking about a Fordo Mountain Facility where youre creating an impassable situation for workers or scientists or those that that are going to be doing something in their nefarious from getting in or out is that the situation that youre creating . Are you talking about hitting a silo somewhere . Are you talking about hitting an airbase where there might be something hanging in the in the belly of an aircraft . There could be a number of different type of targets that you might be speaking of. But again, i would go back to the point that if our enemy is degrading and destroying their capabilities that if our ally is degrading and destroying the capabilities of our enemy then that is a good escalation. Its an escalation i support. All right. I want to turn to the news from just over the past day about a newly unsealed filing from the Special Counsel Jack Smith. He outlined his case against Donald Trump, that he is, quote that the former president was increasingly desperate. That was the words they used on his efforts to subvert 2020 president ial election so heres how the then president allegedly responded when he learned that Mike Pence was in peril on January 6th. It says an unnamed White House aide, according to the filing, ran to trump when he pence had been taken to a secure location in hopes that trump would take action to ensure pences safety. So trump, according to the prosecutors, looked at the aide and simply replied so what what is your response to the president s apparent reaction to his then Vice President . His life being in danger i dont think that the that should be categorized as anything other than hyperbole right there, he had i think its based on the evidence that the prosecutors found, though he has secret Service Protection now, at that time we thought that secret Service Protection was the Gold Standard of protection, and they would be keeping him safe. He was under protection okay. Hes being brought to a secure facility okay. Thats something thats being done. It doesnt really require a great deal of thought. And he wasnt really in peril. Thats the truth of the situation. They were saying. They were saying hang Mike Pence in the capitol. You dont think his life was in peril no. His Life Wasnt really in peril. He was protected by secret service. That is a fact. And the people that came to the capitol, as we know it doesnt like to get reported. The president told them to go there peacefully not anything otherwise that, but the thats clearly its political. Thats the point i would make. Number one, this has political intentions. They want to affect november 5th. But you look at this and you layered upon whats happened already this week you had bureaucrats in the administration in the va trying to unseal and illegally access the information of the Vice President ial candidates like Jd Vance and, and, and Tim Walz we had this in the past when the Department Of Defense did this in the last election when they did it with Representatives Anna Paulina Luna And Zach nunn and others, when the dod unsealed their there and say, hey, listen, these Hunter Biden things with the laptop, thats all false information. Russian disinformation. You constantly have bureaucrats in this, in this administration that are trying to make politics out of their job. And ill just point out that this was a court fight, a court battle, and the judge has been involved in when the filings would actually take place, which is one reason why this came out. And trump of course, tried to delay this whole proceeding until reasons. But i do want to ask you about some news, of course, on the Campaign Trail Today, Kamala Harris is campaigning with Liz Cheney. I want to take you back to january 20th, 2017. Donald trumps inauguration, which you attended with the then congresswoman cheney. She posted this picture. The following day with the caption, it was an honor to celebrate President Trumps Inauguration Yesterday with Brian Mast. But now, of course, things are much different in the wake of January 6th. She claims that trump supporting Republicans Quote are defending the indefensible and warns, quote, there will be a time, there will come a day when Donald Trump is gone but your dishonor will remain. What do you say to her she was my seatmate. I believe she was directly to my left. Maybe it was to my right, sitting at that inauguration but you that youre going here, and she doesnt support the direction of america. First, she doesnt support the direction of drain the swamp. She supports the direction of lets keep everything the same in washington, dc. Continue the spending habits support all the same entities that have been supported since her father was out there supporting those entities. Its a total different direction. I think thats why shes standing alongside Kamala Harris, and i think it degrades all credibility. I dont think she pulls one vote from the Gop Or President trump in any way whatsoever and again, i just say standing next to harris shows really the the lengths to which she she will go to support extreme policies. All right. Okay. Congressman Brian Mast from florida, thank you so much for taking the time. Really appreciate it. I appreciate you asking. Take care. All right. A memoir makes waves on one of the most contentious issues of the election Melania Trump tells The World what she really thinks about abortion, and it strays pretty far from what her Husbands Party believes. Melania trump is breaking with her husband on a key issue for voters in this election. Abortion of course, we know former President Trump takes credit for appointing the justices who helped overturn Roe V wade, sending the issue back to the states. The former First Lady, though, makes clear where she stands, and a new video as she promotes her upcoming memoir individual freedom, is a fundamental principle that i safeguard without a doubt there is no room for compromise when it comes to this essential right that all women possess from birth individual freedom what does my body, my choice really mean . Cnns Kristen Holmes joins me from the Battleground State of michigan. Kristen. Trump himself, Donald Trump, has been all over the map on this issue. Do we expect him to respond to what his wife is saying there well, look, its unclear, but obviously theres a lot to unpack there. I mean, this is an issue that Donald Trump himself has had a very hard time navigating. Weve been in this campaign for nearly two years, and he still has problems talking about abortion. To be clear overturning of Roe V wade. But at the same time, he knows that this is politically harmful to him particularly among moderates among women. So he often avoids it. In his campaign speeches, he refused to answer questions until this week as to whether or not he would veto a national Abortion Ban if he was reelected he finally said this year that or this week that he would do that. But at the same time, its still Donald Trump and he has sought time after time to get credit while trying to avoid the topic for the overturning of Roe V wade. This was him at the recent debate for 52 years, theyve been trying to get Roe V wade into the states, and through the genius and and Heart And Strength of six Supreme Court justices we were able to do that. Now, i believe in the exceptions for Rape Incest and life of the mother. I believe strongly in it. Ronald reagan did also. 85 of republicans do exceptions. Very important but we were able to get it to undercut something that Donald Trump at times has said was one of his signature achievements while in office. And if you ask some of his advisers, they say shes just not a traditional former First Lady, that she just does her own thing. But manu just to show you the context here, i mean, this is coming at a time where shes been almost nonexistent on the Campaign Trail. We will see if he addresses it today on the stage in michigan. Hes slated to be talking about the economy. But as we know, it is Donald Trump. So he could talk about anything he certainly can. Itll be interesting to see see if he does say something about that thanks for that, kristen. And our excellent panel is back. What do we make of this . I mean, the fact that we have not seen Melania Trump really, this campaign suddenly shes back and now dropping this bomb of sorts. Yeah, i mean, it appears to be potentially a play to help her husband with some moderate voters, especially with women who suburban women who he hasnt necessarily done well with coordinated perhaps. Right i mean, i would think it would be coordinated despite the fact that they may say its not and you know, although, again i was just in the Swing States of arizona and nevada, they both have Abortion Ballots, Abortion Ballot measures this year and there are differences between the two in terms of how much theyre going to galvanize voters. But in arizona specifically, it looks like it could very well motivate a decent amount of voters. And potentially voters that could translate into more support for harris. I think a lot of those voters, though, are already a bit baked in. I dont know if theyre going to necessarily believe Melanias Pitch to them, especially when it conflicts with what Donald Trump has said. And j. D. Vance, his past support of a national Abortion Ban. Weve not seen her much on the Campaign Trail. That might be a bigger question that we could fill an entire hour with. But id say, you know, the republican convention, you know, typically the First Lady, future First Lady speaks, right. But she was there not much we didnt see much of her. No, shes shes not been a crucial part of the sell to the trump base. This time around. And i think what were seeing here, im going to borrow a line from Jessie J and say its all about the money. Money money. There is a book coming out. Its her book. Its coming out next week. This will obviously Juice Publicity and sales and interest in the Book And Coverage of the book. Thats a piece of the timing of this. I dont certainly dont think this is going to hurt former President Trump because nobody thinks that his wife or his running Mate Or Anyone except for him, is making decisions. And hes already made the decisions. He nominated the Supreme Court nominees. Hes said he supports this being an issue for states to decide. And while he once was a prochoice, a public figure, that was many years ago, and he has been on the other side of that coin. You mentioned the Book Cnn has a new story out just this past hour about how Melania Trump apparently asked for 250,000 for Cnn Interview on her book, according to the report. Two months ago, cnn reached out to trump. Melania trumps book publisher, to request an interview after several exchanges, they came back with this unusual demand, asking for 250,000 as part of the cnn. Did not sign that agreement. Just for the record there, days later, after a separate Cnn Journalist asked about this, the publisher said it had sent the Payment Demand by mistake. Of course, theres been some reporting to that. She appeared apparently at two fundraisers at the log cabin. Republicans earlier this year. Our colleagues also reported that that and she was paid 237,000 for a speaking engagement. Its unclear exactly how she got that money as well look, i mean, to me, it sounds like a potential i should say, right . It sounds like a potential speaking fee request. I mean, this is just one. Its impossible to imagine another First Lady, former First Lady from Nancy Reagan to Barbara Bush to Rosalynn Carter to laura bush. Any of them, uh, you know not, uh, sort of acting like this. I mean, the Speaking Fees are, Uh Unheard Of in this Respect Setting that aside i think the Abortion Comment is a strategic to laurens point, there it sounds very much in the lines of, im not saying she doesnt believe it, but to have this come out now is certainly very interesting. It could muddy the waters perhaps A Little Bit in terms of the gender gap. But one thing is clear on the right side of the former president s flank even though some antiabortion activists dont necessarily like some of his language, they liked his policies and his Supreme Court nominees. And thats what matters here all right, we shall see. Muddying the waters. But trump has been trying to do on abortion, for sure. Really since roe was overturned. Right. Its very well could be all right. Im bill, were on the California Coast and this is Cnn News special Counsel Evidence providing the american public a full glimpse of Donald Trumps attempt to overturn the 2020 election. Weeks for voters go to the polls in the 2024 election. Elliot williams, legal expert, joins me now to add his expertise. Elliot thanks so much for joining me at this moment. So just remind viewers about everything that was found here at least that was dropped by the Special Counsel over the past day several key points outlining this frayed relationship between trump and apparently told trump make them run riot. Trump told his family if it doesnt matter if you won or lost the election you still have to fight like hell according to the filing. He also said, so what . When when he was told that Mike Pence was being moved to a secure location on january sixth. What is your big takeaway from this and what happens next . Right now, the big takeaway is a lot of this was in the public record, but theres more details behind it now between statements and speeches that have been given, the January 6th committee, which aired a lot of this. But theres more detail. However this was never before the court and this is nothing exists in a courtroom until its been filed on a piece of paper. Judge chutkan, whos the judge overseeing the case, cant rely on any of this information unless its been filed like it has here. So whats happening right now is the Justice Department is building a record and a case. Should they ever end up taking this to trial. So i want to ask you about what republicans have been saying, Donald Trump posted on truth social. He called it election interference. You heard i just spoke to Congressman Brian saying that he shouldnt have dropped this at this late time. This is all an effort to try to interfere with the November Elections is what is the reality . What is the truth here that is inaccurate on many levels . Well, Number One, this idea of the Justice Department not taking actions in the run up to an election in the 60 days before an election, thats what i think a lot of what theyre getting at um, thats for the filing of cases and the bringing of charges. These charges were brought years ago. The judge simply unsealed a document that had already been filed in the case judge, why did he do it . Now . He didnt do anything. He filed it in response to a specific order from the judge. This wasnt i think, what the former president and the congressman are capitalizing on is confusion as to the court versus the prosecutor. The prosecutor was responding to an order from the judge to file this information, and thats how litigation works. Cases stretch out over years and years and years. Yes, there is an election coming up in 30, i believe, four days. But the Court System goes on what what is the timeline here because obviously this is not going to go to trial before november. What if trump loses the impact that this would have if he wins . We expect trump to pardon himself right here. Right . If he loses, how when . How does this play out . Pardon himself or simply just dismiss the case, direct the Justice Department to determine what she can do yeah. Now in the in the next couple of weeks the the Trump Team will file a response to this with their take on what constitutes an official versus an unofficial act of the presidency. We can assume that theyre going to take a different position than the Justice Department did right here. Then the judge prepares things for trial that could be months, but but it could still go to trial at some point, just simply not before election and quickly could we see more new evidence before the election . Possibly because there have been matters still under seal from the Grand Jury and so on . Absolutely. We shall see. All right. Elliot williams, thank you for joining me and thank you for joining Inside Politics. Cnn news central starts after a quick break and ask questions like, what does a Comedy Show doing on cnn .
