Trump has already sounding off on the new for more on that in a moment, but lets go straight to cnns Zach Cohen Zach a lot to unpack 165 pages. What does it tell us . Yeah, jim Jack Smith really laying out why he believes Donald Trump should still face criminal charges, even after the u. S. Supreme court granted him limited immunity for those actions deemed under his official duties as president , right. But Jack Smith is arguing here that trumps attempts to overturn the 2020 election, that those all quality he cared those out under a personal and a private capacity that he was acting as a candidate, not as president then Jack Smith lays out some additional evidence here and some evidence we hadnt seen before in sort of making this case, this post Supreme Court ruling, case, and some of that evidence deals with Donald Trumps communications and interactions with then Vice President Mike Pence. We obviously know Mike Pence is a key part of these charges against Donald Trump and Jack Smith. Again, alleges that at trump tried to pressure Mike Pence to overturn the 2020 election and goes into what Donald Trump allegedly was trying to do on January 6. He sent that now infamous tweet, right . It looks like Mike Pence not have the courage to overturn the results Jack Smith writes, quote, it was at that point alone watching news in real time and with knowledge that rioters had breached the capitol building, that the defense and it issued the 2 24 p. M. Tweet attacking pence for refusing the defendants in treaties to join the Conspiracy And Help overturn the results of the election. It goes on to cite a witness who told prosecutors that when trump was informed that Mike Pence was being evacuated from the capitol, his response was, quote, so what so that sort of gives you a sense of the tone of this, of the allegations in this new filing. It also goes through some additional evidence and witnesses told prosecutors during the course of this investigation as well. It refers to an interview or a conversation between steve Bannons Something wed identified as Steve Bannon and Donald Trump one day before the January 6 riot shortly before dawn, trump tweeted he be there and be wild. Tweet as well. And then also gets into how Donald Trump was communicating directly with republican legislators at these various states that the Trump Team was targeting as they tried to overturn the Election Results. In one witness interview, it talks about an interaction with Governor Ducey of arizona. Governor ducey asked Donald Trump directly we to provide proof of the widespread Voter Fraud that he was alleging. And he says, quote, but the defendant never did. So thats another key part of the allegations. Jack smith is making that trump knew he lost the election and tried to overturn the results. And where does it go from here it sounds as though the Trump Team, the trump legal team will have a chance to respond to some of this, but theyre going to have to do it quickly. Yes. There are you waiting for asking for more time to respond and they need additional pages to adequately respond to Jack Smiths filing here. But ultimately, were seeing don trump or respond publicly. Hes expressing outrage at the justice department, even though judge chutkans the one who decided that this could be unsealed. Dow. All right, fascinating development. Zach cohen, thank you very much. Does this give you any doubt that he would try this again i mean, i think it just underscores how dangerous Donald Trump was on January 6. And before that, and how dangerous he would be if hes elected president. Again the stakes are very high in this case because if Donald Trump gets away with what he did inciting a mob to a mob, the capital to go after legislators, to tear the place up, to try to overthrow the election and not allow it to be certified. If he gets away with it, that it makes it more likely that a future president , including perhaps Donald Trump well do it again. So its a danger to our democracy. And i hope that Jack Smith and success, his Case And Trump is responding to the unsealing of these documents, calling a quote, election interference. Lets listen to what he had to say. They rigged the election. I didnt rigged the election. They rigged the election. They should have never allowed the information to be to come before the public. But they did that because they want to hurt you with the election. Now, its pure election interference. Congressman, i mean, your reaction to trump saying they rigged the election. I mean, he was in power, his admission was in power when the election happened in states like georgia and arizona had republican governors at that time. What is he talking about . Well, he often accuses people of doing exactly what he himself was doing so when he reaches out to the governor of georgia or the governor of arizona, and ask them to change the Election Results with no Proof Or Evidence that there was anything wrong with how the election was conducted. And then accuses the other side of rigging the election hes obviously weve seen this man lie again and again but his lies are getting more dangerous. Hes getting less coherent and more chaotic and more desperate as we get closer to the november election. Whats your sense of it right now situation a situation on the brink of larger regional conflict this was a big concern for many of us after october 7, i think everybody understood that israel, of course, would respond to the very tragic attack by hamas. But we also understood that there was a chance that if israel also affected civilians, folks who were innocent of having anything to do with what hamas did, that there might be a Reaction Section from iran or others and bear in mind, theyve already funded Terrorist Attacks against israel over the years. Im so sorry for for all of that. It sounds as though it was just wiped out, but you were able to get the animals out. Is that correct yes luckily, we had our Community Show Up in droves. We actually emptied our shelter of about 100 animals in just two hours, and that was just half a day before the storm hit. So we have been now mobilizing to get 150 animals. All of our animals, out of this disaster area. We are just grief stricken to see what happened to our shelter, to look at a building that has saved the lives of over 100,000 animals, and to see it filled completely with water. It is devastating and the thing were holding on to is that animals like taz are okay, but there are so many animals in our community that arent well, im a big believer in your mission. Ive got a Rescue Dog myself. His name is duke and so im a big believer in what youre doing there um, i just my heart goes out to you and those all those little animals. Whats going to happen . Where . I guess theyre all staying with different people . Is that. Is that the deal . And i guess theres probably a need right now for some some folks to come in and adopt these animals as soon as possible animals out of asheville. You can see the individual booths here. There are more than 24 individual Business Owners that were in here, housed on a day to day basis. That cant happen now because you can see what the storm has done to this place. The owner, Patrick Watson is standing here with us, looking at the damage. And i just want to ask you the impact of this storm has been immense. All around the county. What is this done to your business . Its total devastation. I mean, this was an easy way to. For Mother Nature to knock out about 40 small businesses at one time. Um, this is you know, like a Vendor Mall with high End Furniture and antiques and artists and all that. And its just as a business owner, what is the pain like to look at something that youve worked . Obviously. So hard to maintain its were still in shock just to pull up the morning after. We were glad that our home survived this time, because last year during iredalea, it did not um, and we were you know, in high spirits until we turned the corner and saw this. Um, but its just a matter of building it back up and seeing if thats even possible. I dont even know. Theres obviously pain throughout this community with so many people not having power. How hard is it to to try to take a step forward right now, when so many of your neighbors also are in pain . And how is it so close and and whats your gut on whats going to happen . Well its the polling, which is i dont have a i like polling i read them, i think they try to get it right. The polling says its pretty close. Im not convinced its going to be close. When we start counting the votes and you know what happens, jim, if theres seven Swing States, i cant emphasize this enough. The most unlikely scenario is it breaks for three. Usually these elections break in tandem, and i think its much more likely that those seven Swing States break five, 2 or 6 one. So lets wait. And she does have its a modest lead i agree. And its two too close to for real comfort. But she was the democrats were not in the lead in July Midjuly were in the lead now by a little bit. But i think her the possibility that she can build on that or not to be diminished. All right lets talk about the documentary and this this covers a lot of ground, especially the 2024 race. And james, you and i talked about this several times, how you thought Joe Biden was not the candidate to to win this time around. Why do you think everybody was seeking you out . Are you the oracle of louisiana . Whats the deal i dont know, jimmy i had a platform. I really thought that i really really dug deep into the polls. I talked to a lot of people, and i came to a conclusion, and i was comfortable with that conclusion, and i didnt think i thought biden should reconsider his candidacy. And at The End of the day, for the good of the country and himself and Everything Else he did do that. But, you know and i have some familiarity with the ravages of old age, and i dont think theyre compatible with the obligations of the oval office. Yeah, yeah, im familiar with the ravages of middle age, for that matter. But you know actually james, you took a lot of shots, though from inside your party. The party that you love, the party that you helped put over the top in 92 and 96. But you stuck to your guns well, i was pretty comfortable. You know, honestly. And i didnt take any shots that i didnt fully anticipate. I mean, ive been around long enough to know when i started saying this, that people were going to be put out with me and i understand that and you know, its just a question of anybody know, would know me know i gave this long, hard thought, but once i pulled the switch, i mean, i pulled the switch and said, you cant, but i dont know what.
