Attack into Southern Lebanon. Theyve got to take out that Ballistic Missile firing capability. Now we know theres about 120,000 other types of rockets and missiles that theyve been using to essentially harassed of the people in israel. And thats why some 60,000 people have had to dislocate. But theyve got to take out all the ballistic Missile Capability and Southern Lebanon and they need to do it now or brigadier general Steve Anderson plead akerman thanks to both of you, a brand new hour of cnn, new central starts right now live from New York . No, not snl, but still must see political tv, the Vice President ial candidates getting ready heading to face off for their first and only debate and possibly the final debate of the entire Election Cycle the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene has left thousands of people in Western North Carolina stranded and growing desperate for supplies. New details on the rush now to get to them and get supplies to them im Kate Bolduan with Sara Sidner and john berman. This is Cnn News central morning. I sent something, i feel something its Debate Day in america thank you very much, kate. Another way to look at it, it is a day to celebrate. Number two, the Vice President ial debate. Minnesota governor Tim Walz, ohio senator j. D. Vance here in New York. What does it all mean . What is the potential impact . No one better on earth to help us understand it all cnn political director and sometimes Cnn News central Anchor David Chalian here with us. Great to see you. Thank you. Says that in the prompter, i wrote it. I wrote it theres some time Cnn News central, eichar, i dont want to forget about it in there. So it is the Vice President ial correct. Debate will it be about the Vice President ial candidates or will it be about the people the top of the ticket . I mean, its a good question because it is it is critical mission for those running in the undercard. The number two slot, to make sure they are bolstering the top of the ticket. And so one of the things to watch for today, john, is how much of this debate is vance Versus Walz and how much of it is really trump versus harris, which is obviously where voters are. I mean, voters are not deciding on walz or vance. So its i would be looking for how do these candidates turn questions about their records or their biography into larger thematics . That the top of the tickets running on both candidates have strengths and weaknesses here that are at play. And maybe in some ways cross currents here. What do you see in that front . Well, i kind of look at the narratives that each side has constructed for the Vice President ial Running Mate. And i, i wonder, is this Will Voters walk away tonight being like folksy Coach Walz versus america first, warrior, j. D vance, or or are they going to walk away with sort of a caricature of way lefty, liberal paul, who isnt always familiar with the truth about his biography versus an antiwoman racebaiting candidate. On The Other Side, who could be a Chaos Agent in a trump administration. Those are, those are the negative frames that the opponents want to build. I think we have to see which 1 00 a. M. Burgess tonight. And both of them have to prosecute the case. On the other. So if j. D. Vance is going to try to make tim Walz Look like in again towards the left, ed far liberal, sometimes fabulous candidate that he is. How can he do it without seeming like the next he could have caricature that american seemed to think he is sometimes, which of course, you know, his favorability numbers their way upside down. So is the goal here to improve your positives or is it to really bring up the negatives of your opponent because that could of course we rebound on you and you should be able to tell that we should be able to tell that fairly quickly. Denied for the positives or negatives. Doug heye was on before in quoted from the famous movie meatballs. It just doesnt matter. It just doesnt matter. Sometimes vp debates my say, sometimes i mean, maybe always he always, it just doesnt matter. What do we think about tonight. Listen in a race this close, anything could matter. And so here, heres what i would argue. Its somebody as a major gaffe of major mistake that drives days of coverage that could matter in this very close race, barring that, i think it disappears into the ether pretty quickly. An excellent roadmap to approach the evening. David chalian, great to see you. Thank you. Sara hello, john well, mr. Chalian, which im about to quote you by the way, because quite good. Thank you late last night, we are going to be seeing actually tonight, we are going to be seeing a huge debate as you just heard there, between David Chalian and john berman, the dnc by the way, last night, Use Trump Tower to tool the former president and his Running Mate ahead of tonights vp showdown, one of the messages they projected on the building, quote, go Coach Walz trump for his part, had this to say about the debate does so rigged and so stacked youll see tomorrow when Jd Itll be stacked hes going up against a moron, a total more on how she picked him as unbelievable. And i think its a big Fat Actor theres something wrong with that guy all right with me now is democratic Strategist And Antwan see right. And May Mailman, former trump White House associate counsel. Thank you both for joining us this morning. First to you. You heard the comments that Donald Trump just said about his competition, if you will, in the Vice President ial race but were not hearing that from republicans generally, theyre actually saying the opposite that he, that he could be very strong in this debate. Well, i think tonight youre going to see a true contrast between the two candidates and their causes quite frankly, Governor Walz still goes into this debate as the underdog in spite of j. D. Vance having what at 35 Approval Rating, 46 not approve an Approval Rating essentially inspired of him being an evangelist for Trumps Project 2025, in spite of his War On Women and spite of the fact there, he simply has been an extremist election denier, an Insurrection Support in spite of all that, Governor Walz still goes into this as the underdog. I think its important for the coach to take off the headset and put on the jersey. He must Block And Tackle tonight, part of the blocking is making the american people understand that the past three plus years there have been a downpayment on the progress. We have to make. And so we have to protect that. Thats what this election is all about. But he has to tackle, he has to tackle the extremism that comes along with j. D Vance And Donald trump, but also tackle the issues that Kamala Harris is laid out. So eloquently that she and he will tackle together where this housing whether its Health Care, whether its child affordability, whether its the climate crisis, all those things. And i think tonight you will see that contrast come through in real time. Youre not a football fan, are you politics and hes going i see that may your thoughts on this strategy. Donald trump calling him a moron while at the same time some of the folks that are surrounding him are saying, hey, you need to watch out because j. D. Vance has a real Formative Debater that is on his hands, which way do you think that this should go . Yeah. This is classic Table Setting. I dont think you want to set Debate Expectations so high, even with Joe Biden, a lot of republicans were out and saying Joe Biden might make it. And sure enough, he did not so, you know, sometimes they dont they dont meet even the lowest expectations but here, i think the biggest Table Setting that were seeing is from the democratic side, right . So theyre painting j. D. Vance as a seasoned Yale Law GraduateSmart Guy. And its true j. D. Vance goes on The Sunday shows, he goes on networks that are not friendly to his positions every single week. And so he is really skilled at at addressing people who disagree with him and i dont think that Tim Walz has had that similar strategy, so i hate to set expectations like that, but i really do think that Tim Walz should be nervous let me ask you both. I want to go to something thats happened right now. North carolina is in play. Obviously. And both candidates know that its a very important state, but it is just gone through one of the biggest tragedies that it has ever seen. Hurricane helene brought Misery And Destruction like we have never seen in North Carolina. But then you had these comments. North carolina and georgia, both dealing with this. You had these comments from former president Donald Trump. Heres what he said. Bringing politics into this a very good job. Hes having a hard time getting the president on the phone, i guess not respond to the federal Government Nothing Response to the president just called me yesterday afternoon. I missed him and called him right back. And he just said, hey, what do you need . And i told him we got what we need well work through the federal process. He offered that if theres another things that we need just to call them directly, which i appreciate that why is trump a liar when it comes to this issue, that there are still people that are missing people are dying, and theres a huge response its, it has to happen. Why did he do this . And you have kept coming right off for theyre saying, hey, look, georgia. Yes. We got a call from the president. Why did he do this i think a couple of things. One, i think it was noteworthy that he is trying to support brian kemp. Hey, the governors doing a good job and then minimizing any amount that it might not be brian kemps fault that its the federal governments. So i think it was, it was intended to support brian kemp, which is notable coming from trump, but i think the other piece is that there is a scandal in america right now, which is that americans dont know whos in charge. You see President Biden at the beach and yes, hes been on the phone, but theres there are real questions about whos running the country. Biden does not see mentally or physically capable of handling himself in standard situation. So what happens during a disaster . And i think trump is capturing that question that many people should be asking, which is who is in charge . Kamala harris may god is not the thats not the question that he asked. Thats not what he said. He lied. And then was caught in a lie by the person he was trying to support. But this is about the people of georgia and North Carolina that are trying to deal with this. And, you know, authorities there and people that ive spoken with who were on the ground there say this is not helping. What is your sense of what you just heard from may well, this consistent misrepresentation of the facts and my community, we call it last continue to happen from The Other Side. Quite frankly, this election is about the records when there has been a disaster. Weve seen democrats, particularly President Biden and Vice PresidentHarris Step Up and rescue the american people when she was a United States senator, she continuously voted to give the american People Relief when needed. Quite frankly, President Biden has been on the scene. Thats why his Fema Director is planted in North Carolina until further notice, thats why he immediately call governor of south carolina, tennessee, georgia, North Carolina, all impacted by the storm before the storm even hit, signed the emergency declaration. So there will be no delay. And you compare that to when Donald Trump was in office. We had storms in Puerto Rico, disasters and Puerto Rico disasters in North Carolina, both the late response in North Carolina and the 2017 hurricane they received less than 1 of the necessary aid needed to heal those people. People remember that people remember the lies. I remember the contrast. And quite frankly, Donald Trump is a person searching for Relevancy And Georgia because he puts a strain on the ground with nat with with all the things that come along with a former president having im going to go to an area and thats a different approach than Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have had while they wait to get instructions from the governors on the ground and the people who actually doing the work yeah. I mean, officials on the ground have said, please do not come here i know that President Biden is expected to see it from the sky, but they have asked officials not to come there as theyre dealing with us right now, but to help send aid, May Mailman and antwan see, right. Thank you both so much for this heated discussion. Appreciate it. Kate. Breaking news overnight, israel launches a Ground Incursion into lebanon. Com to 30 years. Ive been saying publicly, more people are say and i have enough money. I could just shut up back to you i can car saturday at seven on cnn breaking this morning and important escalation in the war between israel and hezbollah. Israel says it launched a Ground Incursion into Southern Lebanon overnight. The first such moved by israel in 18 years, hezbollah says israel is lying claiming, you know, it was really true who said entered lebanon, but Video Shows is really trucks carrying tanks near the border. The idf says the footage shows their troops preparing for the new operation. Cnn Chief National Security analyst Jim Sciutto is in Tel Aviv this morning. Whats Israels Goal here, jim, with an operation by the way, they announced to the world as it was happening overnight and we just got an update. In fact, from the spokesman for the idf, daniel hagari, saying that they have already conducted dozens of raids in his terms, across the border Inside Lebanon including targeting tunnels, their various Firing Positions for hezbollah and so on. Now, its interesting. He says raids, because raids implied that you go in and then come out again. Its not clear how long israeli troops well stay inside those areas in Southern Lebanon. But heres, heres a point that i think its worth making, because the goal is and this has been stated publicly repeatedly going back really to october 7, last year is To Push hezbollah back to the Litani River that is close to 20 miles Inside Lebanon and thats an important border because it pushes back the range, in effect, the Firing Range of hezbollah fighters inside northern israel. And its also important because the israelis, judge that has below would not be able to tunnel under that river. And therefore, its an important barrier i want to get hezbollah and moved back some 20 miles. Youre not going to accomplish that, which just a few raids here and there, that implies a longer term presence. Not to find yet, but also, of course, forces going deeper and deeper into territory than theyve described so far. Is it clear, jim, whats next . Not just for israel on the ground, but whats next in terms of how the u. S. Is approaching all of this, because President Biden has said he doesnt want to see an escalation. This appears to be an escalation. So where does it go yeah do you know how many times have we heard that President Biden, Secretary Blinken saying they dont want to see an escalation and yet, this war expands and i think one can reasonably say israel, while striking targets that you could understand, they want to strike hezbollah leaders, et cetera. That israel has escalated the Pager Attack which struck thousands of hezbollah fighters that decapitation strikes, which has dismantled, have been killed multiple levels of hezbollah leadership. And now this Ground Incursion across the border there with the intention of pushing hezbollah fighters back far further. So its really not clear, john, what level of influence President Biden, the White HouseSecretary Blinken, have now on the israeli Prime Minister because it each stage hes done what he and his advisers have judged to be in israels national security interests and has not paid a price for that for any time that hes gotten on the opposite side . Of issues or positions with the United States. I mean, keep in mind, this is the second Ceasefire Effort led by the u. S. One in gaza and one in lebanon. It really doesnt appear to be going anywhere all right. Jim sciutto for us in Tel Aviv. Keep us posted, obviously, these developments are coming very quickly. Sara, all right. Thank you very much for taking the time as i was saying in the break, im just glad that we have connection that we can actually speak what ive read is that flooding maybe theyre went lets lets try and see if it holds. What i read cabal, is that flooding effectively cut the town in half. You describe what youve seen an experience in terms of what the community has been hit with hard to put into words because this is an area we drive through every day. Its kind of a main artery from the i wait 40 into downtown and so we have a great called Richland Creek that redwan lot of lowlying neighborhoods. Its beautiful places to live folks with a creek in the backyard and not a feat, but it rose and covered the roads it made the neighborhoods into into a river with Spotted Homes and really did it did cut cut the main stretch of town off from our highway 40, which is the artery from windsor to asheville wins well, Too Silva tragic to see. Im ive never seen the water that high how is your home, your family, your business . Your employees . How how the people nearest even impacted well. My my staff is all all doing well. Everyone kept their houses. Ive got one employee who lives a little bit far out and his its, house walked place, so theyre getting supplies brought into them by buying a truck and their families safe i have one girl who just hired last week who actually was out in crusoe and where we know shes safe, but we dont know how her how her Family Farmers and last flood that her Family Farm was actually really affected. So im imagining that this time its much worse personally we have the cafe and we live upstairs so my family, my wife, my kids, and my mom and my siblings were safe and thankfully, water doesnt flow uphill as quickly as it flows down and our building is fine. The cap is fine. One thing that were looking at moving forward, the concern for us is immediately was, well, if the roads are closed, how can we get deliveries we had a big delivery. We get to a week and we had the friday when obviously it was canceled because that was midst storm. So we just got some things to patch this up until today. And were hoping that within the next two hours, we see a truck and thats really the thing that worries. So were super fortunate, super blessed this situation is saying, well everything materially for us is fine and how do we move forward . How can we assist, help but right now the first things versus figuring out if we can actually in fact get deliveries to our shop, which it sounds like the roads are opening up and it sounds like an happen yeah. The big news is a huge development. Is that i 40 east out of Buncombe County is now reopen and that could be a huge source of help for Everyone Kind of your whats your reaction when you hear that Food Orders to our shop come out of fort mill. So that is a highway thats very important to us. You know, its a highway thats super important to a lot of people. I know even as much as ive been thinking about my job, now reviewing so much more in Part Because everybody who is along that Corridor And Everybody who needs help. So knowing that i could get a little emotional thinking about it, but knowing that theres not a way for the little that are without you know, theres still people on that water. So having a road to get to go in and potentially deliver things to folks who are in need is huge. Its not us, its, its, its the larger us that really needs it so that 40 quarters you absolutely look, Orchard Coffee is known as being super, super popular in your town. A big part of the community there, and i know that youve been spending your time kind of giving out free coffee or first responders and trying to help anyway, you can i can be sure a hot cup of coffee can go a long way when the long hours of these, these people are pulling to try to get you guys all back online. Im so thanks for coming on and thanks for what youre doing. Its really nice to meet you under truly horrible circumstances. Capital. Thank you very much of course. John. Their first and only Vice President ial debate and potentially the final debate of, of the entire 2024 cycle, we shall see on that last bit but regardless for tonight, who has more to gain or lose as they get onto the Debate Stage, the numbers have been crunched by Harry Enten is here crunching let the crunching occur lets start with kind of where they stand as they walk on the Debate Stage tonight. Where do they stand with voters . Yeah, lets take a look and i think you can see here vague when it comes to j. D vance. Oh, evade. This is the net favorable ratings. Look at that 11 points for j. D. Vance, no. Bueno. Lets jump to The Other Side of the screen. Tim walz, look at that a plus for net Favorability Rating, the highest of any of these four folks on the screen . Right . Now, the democrats better liked than the republicans. But was slightly better liked than Kamala Harris j. D. Vance has actually, if anything, been a drag on the republican side of the ticket, while Tim Walz has actually, if anything, helped Kamala Harris up a little bit. But the Bottom Line is here, this negative 11 appoints no good. This plus four points, pretty good in todays polarized him environment killing, okay, so polarized environment is the thing i want to hit on here. One Jd Vances giving you the Stink Ivory Shoulder for your assigned to his in his in terms of historical perspective, where does that Favorability Rating stand . Again, not good. This is something ive been harping on throughout this entire cycle. So this is Vp Nominees with a knife at negative favorable rating going into their first Vice President ial debate j. D. Vance here at 11 points, the worst all time going into their first vp debate. The only other person in negative net Favorability Territory is Dan Quayle back in 1,988 with a minus three Point Netflix theyve her ability rating, if you know anything about vps and the way that folks view them, you do not want to be in the company of Dan Quayle, j. D. Vance is in the company is actually in a worst position going into his first debate, then of course, Dan Quayle was going into his first debate in 1988. And of course that debate did not go very well. As he ran into the buzzsaw, known as Lloyd Bentsen the Buzz SawLloyd Bentsen the Bad News for j. D. Vance is theyre good news for j. D. Vance. Yeah. Expectations. I think the expectations game. I know theres some folks who think that j. D. Vance is a good debater, obviously a very Smart Guy coming into this debate and to walz and perhaps, you know, the Country Guy coming from the great state of minnesota about who to bettors think will win the first debate in fact, they believe that Tim Walz is the favorite going into this first debate, j. D vance is actually the underdog, at least who the betters think will win in those postdebate poll is that well obviously get later on the Bottom Line is Jd Vance not very well liked going into this first debate, but he really has nothing to lose because hes already the least like Vp Nominee going into his first debate. I mean, you cant get worse than last, so lets see if you can come out tonight. Maybe show the Voters Something that they havent seen before, arent expecting if everything, when it comes to debate as managing expectations, this is one way to set some expectations thats true. There we go to Harry Enten good thing. I see you. John. All right. With us now is the chair of the democratic national committee, jamie harrison. Chairman. Thank you so much for being with us. Thank you. I always learn something when harry comes on always, Number One, the buzzsaw known as lloyd. I mean, that was his nickname, lloyd buzzsaw, benson but i was genuinely shocked that the betting markets are favoring Tim Walz in this debate right now because every political insider i talked to has been talking about the strengths that j. D. Vance has a debater and democrats are talking about their fears about Tim Walz as it a better politico has got a great Expectations Article this morning, were, they have quotes from people whove known Tim Walzs say in debate situations, you can get quote, a bit manic, overly defensive, shuts down conversations when hes most stressed gruff, and brash where do you see the expectations for tonight . Well, listen im a yearly j. D. Vance is a yalee. You cant get out a yield without knowing and picking up some skills in terms of debating. But the one thing you Cant Fake is genuineness. You Cant Authenticity and thats the problem that jay j. D. Vance has. Hes not authentic. Hes not genuine. He lies a lot. Look, hes just lying on the people who hes representing right now that i think you cant even get lower than that to lie about the people that you represent. The one thing that i love about Tim Walz, who ive known almost 20 years now, this guy is genuine. Hes authentic. It sort of oozes out of his pores. People like them and part of what youre seeing with the betting is that its not so much about debate skills, just a Likability Nobody likes j. D. Vance. I dont even know Donald Trump likes him and its just sad because this is a guy who, who is so talented but has not used those talents in order to help people. You talk about j. D. Vance and his issues with the facts and certainly when youre talking about springfield, ohio, certainly youre talking about some of the claims hes made about insulin. Those come into play well, Governor Walz is loose with the facts and his own record, whether it be the service in the national guard, what he what rank he retired in, whether it be carrying the gun in combat, whether it be being in hong kong, apparently during tiananmen square, the reports about them at this morning. So how much do you think he needs to clean that up tonight . Well, i think what the governor needs to do is to continue to talk about what he and the vision that he and Kamala Harris have for the american people, you got j. D. Vance and trump who wants to take us back . Who believe that americas best days are in or pass but we know Americas Greatness is in her future, not in her pass. Lets talk about the Opportunity Economy where we give people, help people get a leg up to get ahead in this economy we see the policies that they have. Theyre talking about Child Care in a address a net which is a big issue as a father to its a huge issue. We see that theyre talking about helping firsttime homebuyers 25,000, downpayment, huge for so many of our young people trying to start up 50,000 to start a Small Business and at the same time, he has Donald Trump and j. D. Vance. They have project 2025, which wants a decimate. Our safety net, that even though theyre trying to distance themselves from it they have tariffs more and more tariffs yeah, thats going to put more money in peoples pockets. These people are not focused on helping the american people, j. D. Vance, you could almost bet will come out and say, you know, governor Tim Walz, liberal lefty, Gavin Newsom and flannel is one thing people have said, didnt call out the national guard early enough when he was riding after the killing of george floyd, what wall say to them . Well, walz can say, well, you know, Donald Trump said actually he did a good job handling the situation after george floyd, which is a direct quote he can also talk about the fact that Feeding Kids should not be a progressive or conservative thing that should be an american thing. We want to feed cancer in her school. No kid should go to School Feeling Hunger as a kid who grew up on Welfare And Food stamps, who was on free and reduced lunch. I know the importance of that would not be here, but for that assistance i hope j. D. Vance and Donald Trump understand that very quickly. There was a Port StrikeLongshoremans Union on the east and in the golf. You are the chair of the democratic Party Union issues, obviously very important to you how do you feel about whether President Biden should get involved To Push for an end to this strike. Well, listen very close to the longshoremen. We have some great guys who worked down into charleston port, the port of charleston, and the president is going to work and will while we stand with organized labor, those are the working people who built the backbone of this country. And so im sure we will find a path forward to move forward. But before we go, john, i just want to continue to send my my heartfelt condolences and prayers to those impacted from helene, some of my very close friends, areas that we traveled to asheville its just devastating and hopefully and we see the leadership from Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were going to get the resources to those communities that there had been lives lost even in south carolina. Was that from their jamie harrison, chair of the democratic national committee. Thanks so much for thank you for having me, sir. All right. Today is the beginning of Breast Cancer awareness month. And the american camp which is society, has a new study out this morning which shows the rate of women dying from Breast Cancer continues to decline. However, there have been increases in the disease being diagnosed at younger ages. Cnn Health ReporterJacqueline Howard is joining me now. Can you give us a sense . You know how and why there is this increase in younger women. Its great to hear that the numbers of people dying from Breast Cancer are declining but you have this other part of this. And this is a life long battle thats right. Sara. And youre right. This new report gives us good news and concerning news, the good news being that we have seen this decline in the Breast CancerDeath Rate here in the United States. Its declined by about 44 send since 1989, and thats largely due to advances in treatment and detecting cases early through screening. But then there is this other concerning news which is the upward trend of the incidence rate. And we know based on this report that the incidence of Breast Cancer has gone up by about one 1 each year since here increase in the rate of Breast Cancer diagnosis for women who are under age 50 versus those that are above age 50. So these are things that we are watching to try to understand sarah that upward trend in the incidence rate, particularly among women younger than the age 50. This trend is not unique to Breast Cancer. Its something that were also seen with other Cancer Types to like colon cancer. And as to why were seeing this rise, and it cancer cases among young hunger adults younger than 50 thats an area of research that we know is actively being looked do right now, sarah, we want to know the answer to that so they can be stopped or at least prevented. Heres a statistic that i know well and i know that you are well familiar with as i battled Breast Cancer black women, although they are less likely to be diagnosed with Breast Cancer they are far more likely to die. What is the study say about this yeah, youre right, sarah, this is a trend that weve talked about for some time. Its been known within medicine for some time, but yet we continue to see it. And this new report shows us that the Breast CancerDeath Rate among black a man is 38 higher compared with white women. But the actual incidence of the disease is 5 lower. So we are seeing a lower incidence, but once the disease is diagnosed, were seeing a higher Death Rate and that is something that we know has been ongoing. We know its concerning its yet another example of racial disparities that we see within medicine in general. And its something that we continue to call upon the medical community to address. Yeah. And its not just people not going to get screen. There is also the kinds of cancer that black women get as well. So theres a lot of factors here Jacqueline Howard. Thank you so much for britain this, on this first day of Breast Cancer awareness month, really appreciate it. Okay. And an important month to mark with my dear sarah on this important month ahead, marking Breast Cancer awareness i, had for us landmark day in president ial history, Jimmy Carter, the Peanut Farmer Turn commander in chief, is the first former american president to celebrate this 100th Birthday. And this is Cnn News this morning, the israeli military defending its ground, incursion into Southern Lebanon, saying it aims to stop attempts by hezbollah to infiltrate israel. Also saying israeli forces have been carrying out raids into Southern Lebanon for months. Now. And Idf Spokesman releasing new Video Footage this morning saying it shows hezbollahs underground tunnels and lebanon. Israel says it has destroyed many of them. These details coming just just hours after israel announced it launched a Ground OperationInside Lebanon, cnn military analyst, Retired Army major general James Spider marks is joining us this morning. Thank you so much for being here. Were hearing about this Ground Incursion. Israel saying it as a limited Ground Incursion. What does that allow . Israel to do . As its going in and out, trying not to keep troops on the ground for very long as limited is our priority before the bulk of this operation gets underway. Is its a definition thats very imprecise. Look, hezbollah has a vote in how this thing unravels, right . So to describe it as limited is great, which means israel hopes to be very precise in its targeting. They want to go after the infrastructure of hezbollah. They want to go after Storage Locations look, theyre looking for evidence that they can go to the International Criminal Court and say, hezbollah routinely positions its Weapons Systems in houses. They use that for storage, not that anybody. Care, but at least that gives them at least it gives the world an understanding of what hezbollah is all about, if its not already sufficiently clear. But i think its important that what israel is trying to do is theyre trying to put Push Hezbollah North of the litani, which we understand however, having if they can do that and a un Security Council Resolution indicates that it should be done hasnt been enforced still a large percentage of israel is still under the range of those Ballistic Missiles. So its a good start. But israel would really like To Push, i think would like To Push beyond the litani they dont like theyre flush with victory from gaza. Theyve got the capacity to do it. The challenges is they dont want to get stuck. And thats why theyre describing this thing Up Front as a limited incursion. They want to hit some very precise locations pushes many as the Hubble Hezbollah fighters beyond the litani and then see what happens from there. But i dont anticipate that they want to occupy ground. They dont want to own that ground. They want To Push hezbollah back than they want to get israel. And they have said that they dont want to sort of be, theyre occupying for months and months and months. I do want to go into this regional map and just look at some of the places that israel has struck because its not just lebanon. You have lebanon you have syria you have yemen. When you look at this map, there is that big fear of a regional war and of course you have had the Houthis Firing on israel as well. What do you make of all this as . The biden administration has said, we have to get a ceasefire now theyre talking about a ceasefire with hezbollah, with trying to stop this incursion into lebanon. What is your takeaway on all this as to where this goes from here . Yes you know sara ill make a Little Green Checkmark up on tehran israel has been very successful going after and they kill the political leader. Or you go the political leader of gaza. So what were seeing is israel has got an immense capacity to reach an operator on these what we call multiple lines of effort. I mean, youve just described so very well on the map the challenge of a much larger Mideast Conflict rests the leadership in tehran what are they going to do next . We havent seen that directly, right . Weve seen it through the proxies. Proxies now have been damaged. All three of those big ones have been damaged. However, if you look at the sheer arc from Tehran All The Way down into damascus you got Terrorist Organizations that are linked to tehran of different sorts that have the ability to strike at targets in the region of the United States is one of those we still have a presence in the region United States is wise to say, look, weve got to, weve got to chill this thing down a little bit. Its way too hot however, israel has a capacity to meet interjected that theyve never been able to meet before. And the world has acquiesced to form of Terrorism Something has to be done now well we will see how this goes in the coming days. Major general James Spider marks. Thank you so much for your great analysis this morning. I really appreciate show you coming on former president Jimmy Carter celebrating his 100th Birthday today, making him the first american president to hit this huge milestone. Cnns Nick Valencia is live for us outside the Carter Center in atlanta. So nick, what are the plans to celebrate the former president on . What is a huge day . Yeah its a Big Day here, kate, and theres a slew of private events planned, but no public events. An auspicious time anytime somebody turns 100yearsold, but especially when that someone is a former president and the families been clear, there was some concerns as to whether or not Jimmy Carter would make it to today, especially after last year when his wife passed away, Rosalyn Carter carter, the love of his life many wondered out loud, how much longer Jimmy Carter would hold on, but he is here today turning 100, becoming the first us president to turn 100yearsold. And it was recently that his grandson, Jason Carter says that hes seen a renewed determination of in his Grandfathers Spirit to make it to October 15 to early vote for his birthday, of course, is today. But the Big Celebration was a couple of weeks ago at the fox theater, a starstudded event for americas first Rock And Roll president. Him or his great grandfather, i look, it goes to that saying Jimmy Carter has had a phenomenal Second Act as former president. Hes founded the Carter Center here helped eradicate guinea worm, Building Homes for habitat for humanity. Hes a Cancer Survivor of the list goes on and
