Saying yeah, we have a category three hurricane on our hands right now, what 125 mile per hour winds my point that out because it category four hurricane starts at 130 mile per hour winds, so were really talking about a difference of five to ten miles per hour here, right . So right now, its a very Highend Category three teetering on that category four, which is why the national Hurricane Center is saying, hey, look, its still sitting over very warm from Ocean Waters right now. It has all the ingredients it needs to strengthen. So theres really not much to stop it from gaming that five miles per hour that it needs to just get to that category and become a category four either way, whether its this Highend Category three, or it makes that fivemile per Hour Difference to a category four. We are still talking about the Sam Catastrophic on survivable impacts when it comes to the Storm Surge and heavy Rain And Everything else. Weve been talking about, the radar. You can see again still with the outer bands that have been lashing all day, finding winds sustained winds of 50 miles per hour right now for myers, 32 miles per hour in Key West heres a look at the latest track again, still in the same spot for the big Bend Area just to the east of apalachicola. Again, with this Highend Category three, possibly teetering on this category for the Hurricane Warning stretching towards making. And then that blues or the tropical storm warnings. Because again, this storm is incredibly wide 400 miles stretching all of these damaging catastrophic winds possible that could really wipe out some of the power. Heres a look at the Storm Surge. Again, still 15 to 20 feet. This isnt going to change whether its at Highend Category three or that Lowend Category four, its those impacts that matter when you have the ocean just rising 20 feet of wood destructive waves and coming in. Thats going to do damage. Thats the unsurvivable part that people need to escape and need to evacuate from, again, is a very wide storm. Its really topping the list of some of the largest as far as Breadth And Width of it. And thats why were really worried about this. Span of Power Outages, not just for florida with the Hurricane Force winds that can be catastrophic. And the Big Bend. But look at the tropical Storm Force winds again that stretch into georgia, where were worried about widespread Power Outages, even into the carolinas. And they dont want us to forget about the Rain Part of this, The Rain doesnt care what category is that rain is going to squeeze out no matter what weve got, that high and risk for rain, Heavy Rain from asheville down to tallahassee. Officials in asheville are actually asking people to evacuate because theyre worried about more than a foot of rain maybe approaching two feet in the mountainous area numerous landslides when you have a high risk like this, its only issued 4 of the time, but its responsible for 40 of our fatalities and 80 of our Flood Damages again, some of this Rain Up in the Western Carolinas well be over a foot and again in a mountainous terrain, theyre worried about landslides that could be unprecedented. The weather service, theyre really calling it an event that people there have never seen before, not since 1916. And again, this rain will squeeze out no matter what the category is. Jake. All right. Elisa raffa. Thank you so much for that update. Cnns John Berman is in tallahassee, the capital of florida. John, youre about to get slammed. What are you seeing right now . Right now, the starting to pick up a little bit as those outer bands begin to pass over tallahassee, the coast is about 20 miles south of here. That is where helene will make a direct hit. But the storm is expected to pass directly over where i am in town well, he said it would be the first Storm Theyve seen on record to hit tallahassee as a full Force Hurricane and as it approaches a category four, you can imagine easily only 20 miles inland to could still be a category two storm, very powerful as it passes over this city population, some 200,000 isnt with all kinds of trees, jake, the county administrator, warn me that they expect thousands of trees to come down, hundreds of roads to be closed. And whats happening right now is really lastminute preparation, or i should say, staging. The preparation has happened now, people are just waiting at the hotel that were hiding behind right now. Now for shelter inside this hotel, firefighters from Miami Whove come up to be on call for tomorrow just in case theyre needed to go to the hospitals to evacuate them if the power is out, if their flooded, if there are trees down, we saw Power Companies lining the roads, the highways in and out of tallahassee overnight staging to try to get that power up when it inevitably goes down in these overnight hours. Again, this storm is moving quickly about 20 miles per hour, which means it wont have time to weaken as it passes over land, which is why it will hit tallahassee is expected to so hard and still be a hurricane when it crosses just north of us into georgia millions of people, jake in its path john, does it appear that, that many people have evacuated . What whats the sense there some so definitely some people have left tallahassee. This is normally a fairly bustling small city of some 200, 100,000 people. Not a lot of people around and about and there had been some specific event accusations, order, fsu, florida state university, the students were told to get out of their dorms in one area, about 700 students were told to get out 500 of them are in a shelter that has generators and all the windows protected. So the students can all be accounted for. So hopefully, people are listening. If you havent moved yet, for the most part, officials are saying stay where you are the safest thing at this point is to ride this out as it gets worse over the next several hours, jay. All right. John berman in tallahassee. Thanks so much joining us now is adrian Elliott Apalachicola City commissioner. Shes in floridas Big Bend thats the part of the united states where the panhandle of florida connects to the peninsula of florida and adrian extremely Heavy Rain has already flooded roadways in your area. How prepared are the residents of apalachicola for the next phase of this Monster Hurricane Lot of residents, everyones been stocking up. Were used to getting tropical weather in this area. Many residents were here for Hurricane Michael. So thats kind of been our bar to gauge for this Today Downtown the last week preparations were finalized with Business Donor is getting things boarded up moved out some of our lowest lying areas in town have already been subject to a little bit of flooding from The Rainwater, but our Sewer Systems and everything are still functional. This time. We do have some of the floodwaters starting to back a little bit, but the Storm Surge is not hit anywhere near what were seeing in places to the east its the best right now. Franklin county was put under a mandatory Evacuation Order at noon yesterday. Do you believe most people heeded those orders . Have you heard of anyone refusing to leave . There have been a good deal of residents that have gone ahead and left those being people that have moved here within the past 5101520 years, people that have been here their whole lives. There have been those that have been too stubborn to leave and still are here there are those of us that are staying because we do have a sense of obligation to stay here. We are a community that has a lot of elderly in it. And whenever events like this happen, theres not a lot of people left behind. Theyre able bodied, enabled to help out those raids residents that gets left behind, gets stuck or trapped i think the most important thing to remind people at this point is it if you are still here, you need to stay shelter in place getting contact with other locals that are still here, because the most dangerous thing you can do is try to leave too late and get stuck on those roads in those floodwaters are forecast here is Hurricane Force winds are supposed to hit this hour. What kind of damage are you most worried . Read about to be quite honest with you. We were most weve been most concerned about the Storm Surge. That was what we dealt with the most in Hurricane Michael with wind, weve got a lot of old historic homes around here. So theres no telling what kind of damage can be faced with that were just hoping for the best in that regard alright. Adrian elie. Thank you so much really appreciate it. Thats right in the path of the storm where the peninsula meets the panhandle. He joins us from steen hatchie michael, whats the latest from where you are hey, there jake, at this point you can see Light Rain at right now, but we know thats going to change significantly over the next few hours with officials saying basically at this point the windows closed on if you were going to try to evacuated, now, you basically need to hunker down. Weve seen those preps going on and the last few days and even today, you can see this rope right here, this marina been time there, docs together as they tried to prepare for this storm, theyre worried about that Storm Surge. This part, particularly maybe 20 some feet, put that in perspective, the owner of this marina telling me this stock was well above the top of this Poll Lap last time they got a significant Storm Surge. So thats on top of everyones mind. All of that water, all of that wind why everyone here tells us theyre not risking it with this storm all right. Michael yoshida, thanks so much. Appreciate it. Stay safe. Lets go to cnns Elisa Raffa on the Hurricane Headquarters right now, at least when are we going to start to see some of the most severe parts of this storm . This evening is when that ice starts to get onto the Big Ben and make that landfall. And the most catastrophic parts of the storm are in that i thats where the strongest winds are. So thats where youll find the strongest winds, the most damaging winds, and the most destructive Storm Surge. Now, weve been watching this Satellite Loop and this ai. Im not sure if you could tell from home, but this is getting wider clear and more symmetrical. So like i mentioned earlier, were only five miles away from that category for status, right . Were kind of, you know, splitting hairs right now. So were really not going to be surprised if this does become a category four thats why the national Hurricane Center is saying thats definitely likely as it starts to approach this coast because it has just been sitting in this bathtub of fuel. Weve had Sea Surface temperatures incredibly warm, and that is fueling this hurricane to continue to gain strength just before Landfall Youve got The Rain here that has been lashing of the Florida Peninsula here all day, Wind Gust to 52 miles per hour in Tampa Bay. And i remember hurricane is not a point. We get impacts way he before landfall. Landfall just means this. I comes over lance, you get a whole half of a hurricane before that, i even gets there 46 miles per hour gusts right now in Key West when you look at the Sea Surface temperatures again, incredibly warm. And this is the Climate Factor that weve been talking about so much oceans are warming much faster than even our atmosphere. Our oceans is taken and so much of that seat. And what that does is thats Food And Fuel for these hurricanes. Thats why this is already been able to rapidly intensify and could do it again just for landfall, the danger with this as it catches people off guard, we were talking about our tropical storm yesterday, and all of a sudden this is this massive category for almost four hurricane. So again, thats gives people less time to prepare when we get these storms to rapidly lee intensify like that. Again, the track continues to keep this major Hurricane Status again, a Highend Category three. Possibly that Lowend Category four storm with that i coming over shore in the Big Bend of florida sometime this evening will really be watching that closely. Another dangerous part of this too is in the evening, sun is going down, right . So those wins will just be howling. Itll be hard to see whats going on outside. And people were really need to keep that in mind, becomes even more dangerous at night when you cant see the flying, can see the wind down im and you cant see the Power Outages down again. Well find this wins again, stretch into georgia. Jake. All right. Elisa raffa. Thank you so much. Lets get an update right now from Michael Brennan hes the director of the national Hurricane Center. Michael. Michael, if you could walk us through the latest information you have yeah. Well, helene continues to strengthen tonight, maximum sustained winds now up to about 125 miles per hour. We can see the eye of Helene And Radar imagery about 130 miles west of tampa of the forward speed of helene continues to increase its now moving north northeast at 23 miles per hour and thats going to bring the center of the hurricane to the coast just in the big Bend Region later this evening and is going to bring this multiple lifethreatening seeing impacts catastrophic Storm Surge devil, devastating Hurricane Force winds that are going to spread well inland up into places, into portions of georgia. And tropical storm conditions well up north into the carolinas the potential for catastrophic flooding from Heavy Rainfall across much of the Southeastern Us at into the southern appalachians. Michael, there is now a chance were told you, tell us that helene is going to become a category four storm before it makes landfall what are the ramifications of that well, at this point, it doesnt really matter very much. Its almost a category four. We have been seeing it strengthened pretty dramatically today. So its certainly reasonable to think that it will get a little stronger for landfall here in the next several hours. But in terms of the impacts, we want people to not focus on the category, but on the magnitude of the Storm Surge were expecting 15 to 20 feet of Storm Surge inundation along portions of the florida big Bend Coast line. And then as we move inland, were going to see tropical Storm And Hurricane conditions across much of the Southeastern United States very concerned turned about places like tallahassee that are under a Hurricane Warning, expected to see hurricane conditions, structural damage, widespread Power Outages those strong winds are going to extend up into the Metro Atlanta Area overnight and early friday and on up into the southern appalachians, where we it could also see hurricaneforce Wind Gusts and the high terrain there. Helene will be the third hurricane to hit floridas Big Bend since last august. Does that make this area even more vulnerable to some of the storms effects. Theyve been weakened its already. In some, in some ways, the Storm Surge repeated events of Storm Surge and coastal flooding can weaken dunes and other coastal protections. But the magnitude of what were going to see play the out here, is so severe with helene, it doesnt matter if you wouldnt have had a hurricane for the last 20 years in this region. Those impacts are going to be life threatening and in a staggering way over the next 12 to 24 hours, if there are people watching right now who have decided to either stay and ride out the storm or its too late for them to evacuate what should they be doing now well, if youre in one of these Storm SurgeEvacuation Zone say from between Apalachicola Chasiv with csca in this area where were expecting more than ten feet of inundation above ground level. Please try to get out if you can. The water is going to rise so quickly that if you wait until you see that happen, you may not be able to get out. You may not be able to. Your car might float away. Youre going to have destructive Wave Action on top of that Storm Surge that could destroy your home and this is where we tend to see the most types of fatalities and Storm Surge. And these are these major Hurricane Landfalls with debt destructive Wave Action and people trying to get out at the last minute and they get washed away or drown but again, please follow that advice if you can, you really are starting to run out of time though youre going to see those conditions rapidly deteriorate along the coastline here, just in the next two or three hours. All right. The director of the national Hurricane Center, Michael Brennan. Thanks so much for joining us. Lets check back in with cnns Carlos Suarez is in gulfport, florida in St Petersburg area. Carlos, how are things shaping up where you are spoke the street that were on really at this point, its just now being swallowed by The Bay. Its really difficult for you to make out because its on my left here, but the water from The Bay at this point is just pouring into this street that were standing on. And thats why youre seeing all of this water that is there is rushing in this one direction. It is clearly going in the same way that the wind is blowing out here. It has not stopped for the better part of the last couple of hours this is the worst weather that we have seen here in Pinellas County and weve been here since about 6 00 this morning. Quick look at the radar, jake, and we can see that the storm is just to the southwest of us it is going to stay to the west of us when it continues its path north. And so this right now is probably some of the worst weather that were going to see and its this kind of flooding that really has Emergency Officials concern what were talking about hillsborough county, which is over and the tampa in the Tampa Bay area and Pinellas County, which is home to st. Pete and st. Petersburg, as well as clearwater. All of this is happening. All of this wind isnt it hitting all of this Rain Is Falling and were still not quite hitting the Storm Surge that is expected with this hurricane, even though its not going to hit directly. Here, were talking about anywhere between five to eight feet. And thats going to take place. Well into the night. Well, its emitting night and around one in the morning when High Tide hits. Again, jake, since the last time we spoke to you, the water from The Bay out here is just pouring in where were standing right now is just becoming a Parking Lot flooded. Folks really have not been out here for a good part of the afternoon thankfully, because earlier this afternoon folks really thought that things werent going to be as bad as they are, and they were out here taking a look get how things were exactly. Jake, carlos right now, it just looks like youre standing in the middle of a river remind our viewers what the area looked like before the storm came okay, so this is what what Golf Court considers their entertainment district. And so its lined up with a bunch of businesses. A lot of bars as well as some restaurants. This area, ill tell you, really floods no matter how close a hurricane gets, this is a 30 year in a row that nor team from miami has covered a hurricane from this one location, two years ago, we cover her mccain, ian from hearing the Storm Hit to the south. This area flooded last year, we came to cover hurricane idalia. The storm ended up hitting way to the north ive been like perry, florida this area flooded in both of those cases, the Hurricane State offshore didnt really have a direct impact in the Pinellas County or the hillsborough area. But even with that being the case there was just nowhere for all of this water to go. And so as that storm pushes through, what it does is it pushes all of that bay water, all of the Gulf Water into some of these lowlying area. And then you add in the wind and yet add in The Rain. And this is what happens, it all just when it comes together and you add in High Tide theres nowhere for this water to go use used to be able to, in fact, george, have you can you might be able to make out the one car over here thats probably really doing the one thing that folks dont want you to do, which is dr. In this kind of flooding, it just might be a little bit out of eyesight there though jake, carlos, you have any sense of how many people have evacuated in the area . Where you are yeah. So we dont have any exact number on the number of evacuees. The exact number of people that evacuated Bill And I cant tell you the neighborhood that were in was under a mandatory evacuation as of yesterday. And as of this morning, Emergency Officials were pretty concerned with the fact that a lot of folks it did not heed that warning. It was their understanding that a lot of folks decided to ride out this storm because again, the last two years, the last two Hurricane Seasons with ian, any dahlia, this area, Pinellas County, was a part of the path of uncertainty, if you will, folks did what they were supposed to do. They evacuated in a lot of cases, they didnt stay here. And the storm ended up hitting to the south and then hitting up to and so what officials felt that was taking place out here was a bit of complacency, which is of course, what you dont want because you never know exactly what these swarms are going to bring. And jake last years storm, idalia, even though it hit to the north, even though this place didnt really get a whole lot of an impact, more than 15 100 homes in Pinellas County were flooded because of The Rain, the Storm Surge, and all of The Rain that saturated this part of Pinellas County, specifically Gulfport Neighborhood here. Alright. Carlos suarez. Thank you so much. Stay safe as we continue to follow updates on Hurricane Helene, were also following another major Story Today. And that is new York Mayor eric adams, who will appear in Court Tomorrow for the first time since being indicted. On five federal charges related to bribery, wire fraud, conspiracy, and soliciting Campaign Contributions from foreign nationals. The indictment says it for more than a decade then brooklyn Borough President and now mayor adams solicited an accepted more than 100,000 in Luxury Travel benefits from foreign Business People and at least one turkish Government Official that includes firstclass flights and accommodations and some pretty sweet hotel suites, including the st. Regis. In istanbul mayor adams also allegedly accepted illegal Contract Contributions to his campaign and created fake Paper Trail to cover it up. The indictment says, the turkish Government Official was seeking to gain influence over adam comes and that it worked when the turkish official needed a consular building in New York to be declared ready in time for a visit from the turkish president. Officials say that mayor adams actually pressure the new York City fire marshal, the Fire Department to open the building early without a Fire Inspection, despite the fact that it would not have passed a Fire Inspection at the time, mayor adams is denying any wrongdoing doing i actually york is to wait to hear our defense before making any judgments. I will continue to do the job for 8. 3 million New Yorkers that i was elected to do. Lets bring in democratic new York CityCouncil Member or tiffany shes calling on mayor adams to resign. So i know that youre a former Public Defender, so i dont have to tell you. Hes innocent until proven guilty. Why should he resign . Thats right. And yes, i am a former Public Defender for over seven years in the city and its because its not the right question to ask in this moment, right . We were i was the first to call for it at the city level. And the question really for New Yorkers right now is can this mare, in this moment govern, can he deliver the critical services that New Yorkers deserve every single day . And we know that he cant even before the indictment dropped. So its not just that he has now been criminally indicted for first in the history of new York City. It is not just the Mass Exodus of high level officials in the administration, but its this ongoing pattern of mismanagement and corrupt that has broken down on the Citys Ability to deliver Government Services and provisions and you are yes. Innocent until proven guilty. I am a huge proponent of due process. But this is about can he deliver and do the job . This is way too distracting in this moment how strong do you think the indictment is . Somebody who knows legal matters . Yeah well, you investigation like this goes on for a period of time. We know that this is behavior that spanned over the past ten years. I took the time to read this 70 plus page in it and ive got to tell you there are receipts were seeing quotes from Text Messages from other documents that are pretty well see what kind of case gets built out but i think something thats important to point out is the mayor said, hey, listen im not going to be distracted. Were going to im just going to pass this over to my Lawyer Thing that i can tell you as a former defense attorney, is that the most important thing that that Attorney Needs is for their client to assist in their own defense and with charges like these, theres information that only the american provide in his defense so absolutely its going to take away time, energy, and resources that should be focused on delivering for New Yorkers as a public servant when you read in the indictment, prosecutors alleging that mayor adams pressured the New YorkFire Department to open to sign off on opening an unsafe building, a consulate for the turks because the turks wanted it and the Fire Department employee, according to the indictment, said that he feared for his job if he didnt do this, even though he wasnt supposed to do, what does that mean . How do you take that as a public servant . I mean, its horrific, right . I care about the Health And Safety of my neighbors, my constituents weve had weve lost many neighbors to fires across the city to know that this happened and peoples lives have been put in danger and could be put in danger is devastating, especially when we know that we havent put in enough money to the Fdny Department of buildings, department of inspections that it has everything to do with the mayors austerity budget. So while we see that the allegations are saying that he not only took foreign Money Campaign donations illegally, but we have public matching here in new York City, which means he he may have stolen millions eight to one matching, hundreds of of thousands up, i think 10 Million is what the indictment is alleging of public dollars when we know that he cut from funding from the fdny, he cut funding from the department investigations. He cut funding from a lot of agencies. When also we he was just taking in money into his Campaign Coffers so governor Kathy Hochul has the power to remove mayor adams from his Position Show G yes. You know, like i said, this is a moment where its very clear that he cannot govern. There is an inability for government to function the way it is and let me be clear about this. Nobody wins here, right . A transition will be very hard, but its real really important that we get to that work right now, that other elected officials and leaders in our city, in our government come together to stabilize the government. So that we can start rebuilding and move forward and get back the trust of our constituents and really strengthen what local government can and should be doing let me ask you a devils advocate question. What would you say to somebody out there watching this interview right now, he says, it sounds like she doesnt like him to begin with and this is probably what thats rooted in. How would you, how would you respond to that viewer listen, theyre not wrong. It is a very wellknown fact that the mirror and i disagreed on lots of Policy Positions on where our budget dollars are going me personally, i dont think we should be cutting funding from education, from libraries, from parks and sanitation we differ on those things. But again, theres no denying the fact that i have constituents coming into my office where its taking them the the hra, our government three months to process Food Stamp benefits that people are losing apartments because their Housing Vouchers are expiring before the government is able to do their end of the bargain. Its the difference between people being hungry and homeless and people being fed and sheltered yeah, i may not have liked his policies up to this point, and also my constituents, my neighbors are struggling and they deserve better im sure you saw the cover of the New York post, which seemed to be buying into mayor Adams Argument that the reason that this happened its because hes been critical of the biden administration when it comes to its Immigration Policies and failures at the border whats your response to that . Yes i think that those are really, really typical, sort of rightwing maga, republican Talking Points that try to undercut the credibility of these investigations. And the other Flip Side of the coin is the mayor himself has been on record saying these things because he is a former nypd officer hed selfdescribed as a Law And Order guy typically, when things happen in our city highprofile thing. So say, hey, if the cops made an arrest, that person did something wrong, right there. A Bad GuyPublic Defender here again, innocent until proven guilty, due process, but in no way are we saying that this is politically motivated and 11, just not how these investigations work. They take a lot of time, they get the subpoenas signed by judges. They have to allocate convene. A lot of different evidence and im telling you that Indictment Document is pretty detailed. It sure is mayor adams is you know, hes not backing down. Hes saying hes not going to resign. Hes going to stick it out. How do you think that would impact Government Agencies . I mean, its continuing to impact Government Agencies. Like i said, we have seen a deterioration of the provision of services i had a constituent who really need some urgent help from the department of education. I wanted to call Chancellor Banks i was told i couldnt call him because the fbi had seized both of his cell phones. I then went down the line of other high Ranking Doe officials and was not able to get anybody on the phone that is emblematic of what were seeing all across government at this point. Its only going to continue to get worse. Like i said, this is extremely, extremely distracted. Theres no way it doesnt distract him further. Theres no way it doesnt take more of his time, energy and resources to himself the way that he says and he should, if, you know, if hamas his, defense attorney, what then were going to put up a row bus defense, but let let me tell you that takes a lot of time and energy and being the mayor of new York City is a big job in every minute should be focused on doing that job for New Yorkers tiffany, come on. Thank you so much. Appreciate your time today. Thank you so much. This just in as the winds pick up and Hurricane Helene moves in, Power Outages already more than 200,000 customers in florida. Eva mckend on the road, the Harriswalz Camp Cnn were back to our breaking News Coverage of Hurricane Helene. And you are seeing some of the current flooding on Anna Maria Island right outside sarasota, florida, were Evacuation Orders are in effect. This is all before helene now forecast to be a category four hurricane lets go listen to the governor of florida, Ron Desantis briefing. Citizens, initial estimates. When we woke up this morning were that it would probably make landfall sometime in the earlier side of the evening. Now it looks like itll be closer to 2 11 p. M. It is starting to move quickly, but for people that are particularly if youre looking at where this is now expected to make landfall. The models have continued to move at a little bit east. I think youre looking at anywhere from that will call a Jefferson County Line over to Taylor County. Most of the data we have does have a Taylor County landfall, but all those areas there along the big Bend Coast and in areas that are low lying that are susceptible to potentially major Storm Surge youre under an Evacuation Order for some people have because the storm it and get to get here until a little later. Were going to see some effects soon. But right now, you actually still have time to be able to evacuate. I mean, you can go to Leon County and go to a shelter. You can get to a place that is going to be on higher ground and its not going to be susceptible to Storm Surge. The winds are going to be significant. But most structures in florida are going to be able to handle the wins that will be there if youre interior and at a place that is either a shelter or residents that its built for that. So you still have time hi, time to do that. Now we thought the storm was going to get here a little bit earlier based on the estimates, its going to get here a little bit later. So in these big Bend Areas, are you still have time now, in other parts of florida, listened to your emergency managers. I know Pinellas County said last call they were going to shut the bridges down to the barrier islands, i believe at 6 00 people have either heated that or not the bridges in the Tampa Bay area. Gandy is about to close Howard Franklin Courtney Campbell had been closed, of course, Sunshine Skyway had had been closed earlier so the time in that part of the state is its coming to an end, but if youre here in north florida, grand in one of those areas, you see the potential for the Storm Surge you still have time to do it. So we would encourage you to heed those Evacuation Orders as appropriate in your local area . Youre going to lose power. So you still have time if you have power, make sure your phones are charged, make sure you have what you need to be able to get through a period of time where youre going to have an interruption hour. If youre sheltering in place in one of those Evacuation Zones, make sure you let people know so that youre doing that. Whether its a friend, a family member, i know some of the counties say you can you can check in with them and give them that information if youre comfortable doing that. But but please do that. If youre if youve decided to hunker down dont once we start to get the real nasty conditions dont at that Point Go On the roadways that is very hazardous. That does produce fatalities when people do that in the middle of the storm if you are sheltering at home be cognizant of what trees are around you youre going to have, you have 125 mile an hour maximum sustained right now probably is going to be higher whether it hits as a category four category gory three, its going to be a significant storm and even as it moves inland throughout Northern Florida, you are going to see trees that are going to be, that are going to be falling down. Thats just the reality of what were doing, of what were seeing here. If you here the tree limbs snapping around, you sometimes it almost sounds like fireworks are going off treat that as a Tornado Shelter in a part of the home that would be where youd have protection from that. And this is the type of thing where especially as that eyewall moves so youre going to have some serious, serious storms and theyre also there also may be tornadoes that will be spun off from this as well. And that could be producing some of these some of these reactions if you have really severe weather, and then all of a sudden it gets very calm that probably means youre in the eye of the storm. So dont go out into that. That eyewall will collapse quickly and unexpectedly and you will get very bad weather very quickly as well. Theres gonna be Power Lines that are going to be down. Be careful about that, particularly in the streets, particularly near your residents. Do not mess with down Power Lines. Those can be very, very hazardous. The storm is going to hit floridas big Bend Region. Sometime this evening, likely around 11 00 its gonna be dark dont go out as soon as that storm passive, its still dark and try to do work around your house or worry about things. Let it get light. Theres going to be hazards there. Its just not something you want to be navigating in the dark. When we get into tomorrow, you may have some things on your roof. Just be careful with using ladders that theres going to be groups that are going to be helping people fix their homes in the appropriate areas. So if youre somebody that you may have some physical limitations dont put your health at risk for that watch the Standing Water. Weve already seen seen a lot of Standing Water in different parts of the state already were likely to see more of that. You never know whats in the Standing Water when you have streets that are flooded, dont try to drive through the flooded streets you are going to end up having your Car Stall out and then youre going to be stuck, not to mention the hazards of just being on the roads in those circumstances with having having accidents weve been working here at the state really starting the weekend. Clearly, we did a State Of Emergency at the beginning of the week. We have 1,100 missions in progress through the Florida Division of Emergency Management. Those continued to be filled and they will continue to be filled until theyre all done. Some of those any of those are more for poststorm resources rather . But then prelandfall resources. We do have the Linemen Stage throughout the state you have duke teco fpl. Weve had the coops. We have the municipal goals. I think everybodys on the same page. As soon as this Storm Passes, there needs to be a strong effort to get the power restored they will be working to do that and theyve done a great job on this in recent years. And i think weve really set the, set the standard here in the state of florida. We have 130 generators that are at various Gas Stations so when they lose power, most of the newer Gas Stations are the larger stations have generators per Florida Law or have an ability to get the power back on some of the smaller ones dont. And when youre talking about the big Bend Region that can be significant. So those generators have been distributed and we should not see major interruptions in fuel given that we have all State Agencies that are on standby 3,500 National Guard soldiers. We can surge that very quickly. If we need more Florida Highway Patrol has 200 State Troopers that are on standby. They will go and be dispatched immediately following the storm to areas does that Need Help . Florida department of transportation standing by 307 Cut And Toss crews to get the roads cleared. Hundred and 20 Bridge Inspectors to get the bridges back open almost 700 generators big 200 plus pieces of large equipment, and then the large pumps which they have used, not just in hurricane but in some of The Rainstorms weve had where youve seen flooding in recent Months Fda has used that and its been very effective. We have done a fuel mission, even though weve sent the generators to the stations, we havent necessarily seen Fuel Shortage but you do have ports that are closed. So we have almost half 1 Million gallons of diesel in reserve that are being brought into the state. Hundred and 32,000 gallons of regular Motor Motor Vehicle gas, 36,000 gallons of propane, and 5,000 gallons of jet fuel. So youre close almost 700,000 gallons between everything we have across the variety of fueled needs. And we dont anticipate having to use all or even most of that. But we want to make sure that people have the fuel that they need, particularly as the Storm Passes. So if youre in one of these areas in northern part of the state, particularly on the coast. And those lowlying areas that will face the rhonda, the Storm Surge you still have time but you got to do it right now every minute that goes by, youre going to start to see conditions worsen. I was out. You look this Afternoon And Tallahassee was honestly wasnt that bad. Its going to get a lot worse in Northern Florida as that storm gets closer. So i want to thank everybody thats been involved then the prep. Weve got the assets that are there people just need to make sure theyre Making Decisions that have themselves and their Families Safety in mind. We Cant Control how strong this hurricane is going to get we Cant Control the track of the hurricane. But what you can control oh, is what you can do to put yourself in the best chance to be able to ride this out in a way thats going to be safe with that. Ill turn it over to kevin guthrie. Thank you, governor, again for your unwavering Support And Commitment to the Safety And Wellbeing of floridians. We really appreciate it as the, governor, stood, we continue to work on more than one. Im sorry, 1,100 missions and we continue to fill those again, as he said, they most of them at this point are going to be postimpact resources that are ready to move into the area immediately lifethreatening Storm Surge is expected along Floridas Gulf Gulf coast and Big Ben floodwaters are hard to navigate during the day. But even harder to see at night. At this point, it is the last hours to save delay evacuated ahead of Hurricane Helene from the Gulf Coast and Big Ben if youve not already left youre probably going to need to start looking at it, sheltering in place, stay inside, stay safe, Stay Put do not attempt to leave your Home Or Drive during the storm. The governor has mentioned this. Its Gonna Be Dark Outside when it starts to make landfall. The streetlights, the minimal streetlights. So we do have in the big Bend Area are going to go out. It is going to be very dark. So please do not drive. Do not go out wait two daylight and then only drive if you need to say, if you hear the tree snapping, thats probably its treated like a tornado. Youre an imminent danger of potentially a tree falling on your house. So please make sure youre moving away from the windows and doors, getting to a central point of your home protect yourself from the flying debris put heavy coats, pillows blankets, any any type of material that you could put theyre on top of yourself. Make sure youre doing that. Thatll help for lacerations again. Best you campbell, what you have right there in your Home Stay put until the Storm Passes. The governors already talked about literally like a Light Switch if youve got really, really severe weather and all of a sudden it has completely like nothing ever happened youre 99 sure youre in the eyewall of the hurricane, so do not go outside. Make sure you Stay Put we are anticipating in Power Outages with a storm. Take time now, why you actually have power to top all follow your battery chargers. Make sure you just leave them completely plugged in ready to go until that power goes out. So you get maximum use out of it. Backup generators are going to start becoming more and more of an issue. So please we have done a really good job of reducing the number of Carbon Monoxide Poisoning fatalities after storms we want to have zero in this disaster so keep those generators 20 feet away from outside your home for many open doors or windows. Make sure you let it cool down for 20 minutes before you refuel it. And when you can safely do so and get back to an open store go ahead and spend 20. It get yourself a Carbon Dioxide monitoring your home after the storm has passed your area, it is critical that you listen to local authorities for guidance on when it is safe to go outside and return home. Do not venture out Hazardous Materials. Debriefs. Im sorry, Hazardous Materials debris. And flooding its still be present along with down Power Lines. If you see dangerous conditions, please call 911 and report them to your local authorities residents needing resources after Hurricane Helene can call our State Assistance of Information Line at 1800 34 to 3557.
