I think it could make a difference if it means that younger people who might be disinclined to pursue dissipate younger swifties, for example, might say, you know what, i guess i will get engaged. Shes opened this door for me to walk through if they come to the polls, theyre going to vote disproportion shortly for carmel harris. And i do think and i would encourage her to say that even if its nuanced, distinction between a current policy and what her view is. I think that makes a difference. Well, i think we need to lean in on this. So when i think we answer those questions is by talking about the things that we are doing we need to correct the problem. Isaac men was one of two Crew Members on the Space X Polaris Dawn Mission to venture outside the Dragon Capsule around 7 00 eastern this morning, there was just about nothing a Space Suit between him and the vast expanse of space. Kristen, nasa has been doing spacewalks for well 60 years, but this was obviously different and a giant leap, you could say, yeah, and thats what the Nasa Administrator Bill Nelson was saying when he congratulated spacex for what it was able to pull off because the up until just a few hours ago, the only people that had done spacewalks were professional government astronauts. It had the backing of big, powerful countries like the united states, china, and russia this was a spacecraft and a Brand New spacesuit designed and manufactured by a private space company, spacex. And the people going out into the vacuum some of space were private astronauts your everyday citizens granted theyd trained quite a bit and the reason thats so significant is because the private sector is typically we will able to do things faster. And for a lot less money, just take these spacesuits. Nasa has been trying to get new spacesuits for its astronauts are about 20 years. Spacex was able to the design and develop these in just twoandahalf years. So the reason this is a big deal is because this is the firstgeneration of the Space Suit that someday spacex hopes will allow astronauts to walk on mars. And just look at that image and the seeming vastness of that darkness, its, its intimidating no question. So its its i think about what happened 60 years ago, for example, boris, when the us had its first spacewalk, ed white, 1965, but a few months after the soviet union, it is for a spacewalk. And what were seeing is kind of the commercial version of that milestone being replicated but the commercial enterprise it seems to be moving so much faster. So were kind of going back to the future, but i think things are going to accelerate much faster going forward and that is a fascinating idea. Kristen, take us through stepbystep. What We Saw with this spacewalk, it started so its something called a pre breath pre prebreathing and it actually started about two hours after lifting off. Its similar to what Scuba Divers do to avoid Decompression Thickness or the bends. Thats why Scuba Divers, you have to rise to the surface slowly so that the Nitrogen Nitrogen doesnt Bubble Up in your bloodstream. Well, thats what the prebreathing it was for these Astronauts Today and on the international space station, they have a special airlock, a decompression chamber. All these astronauts had was the drought i can spacecraft and the whole thing was opening up to the vacuum of space. So they had to that was essentially their decompression chamber. Thats where this pretty brief took place. Then they put on their space Space Suits, checked out the Space Suits for any leaks. You see jared Isaac Man opening the hatch right there and then he ventured out for about ten minutes, followed by a Mission Specialist sarah gillis. Shes a Spacex Engineer on the other big thing is this was the first time that any spacex employees have actually gone to space, allowing them to have better insight when their training other astronauts days. Yeah miles, i noticed that sara right. And jared made some small movements with their arms when they were out there. Help us understand what theyre doing with that of those suits as the worlds smallest spacecraft. And basically everything thats sustained, Human Life has to be inside them so you want them to be, you know, very capable of protecting Human Life. But on the other side of it, you want to be able to do useful things like do some work, whether youre on the surface of a planet or outside the space station. So you have as engineers design them, they want them to be very protective, huge Temperature Swing it was a hundreds of degrees plus hundreds of degrees minus in the course of a few minutes. And you want them to be protected against Micro Meteorites and so forth. So they had to be kind of armored and yet very pliable. And you can imagine a pressurized suit just the act of closing your gloved hand can rub it wrong. So what they were trying to do was to see kind of doing a little bit of a macarena up there trying to move the arm, see how they are, whether theyre pliable enough, whether the design is such that an astronaut could do some real work. If you could take a few mode at home, its not to be looking at the earth below. And thats just a drop in the bucket of what some of these parishes and Southern Louisiana have had to contend with as some of the Storm Surge and the Flooding Rains really inundated this very low Elevation Part of the state of louisiana. Now this Storm Isnt done yet. We know that the remnants of francine are now moving in into portions of mississippi, alabama, georgia, and tennessee. So theres a lot of pentup energy associated with this kind of dying storm system. There is a Flash Flood but ongoing threat really centered across alabama. So headsup birmingham, but we Cant Excuse the Tornado Threat that is ongoing across perhaps the Florida Peninsula as we draw and moines mixture from the gulf of mexico, you can see heres a bulldozer behind us going to assess the situation. You have to experience that idea of walking through the cockpit and knowing that the pressurization has gone, you only have minutes to breathe without getting oxygen. And all of those scenarios are fully vetted and experienced by the crew before it actually happens to them.
