Whats a little bit of barbell strategy. Its been described as a rural Bus Tour through georgia. But remember, savannah has a population of 150,000 people. So shes trying to have her cake and eat it too, Hit Savannah and then go across the southern part of the state of georgia because narrowing the margins in rural counties is paramount for this campaign and its borrowing from the Biden Playbook from 2020, thats one of the ways that he was able to win states like georgia and win some of those Blue Wall states as well. And there have long ben, democratic Ad Buyers who have had entire strategy is built around perhaps not winning some of these rural counties, but just its narrowing the margin enough to try to tip the scales and its played out for harris personally behind the scenes to im told by some harris aides that early on in the biden administration, when they were discussing potential Personnel Appointments that she raised some objections to the appointment of Tom Vilsack at the Agriculture Department because hed already done the job for eight years and she said it its voters in rural america, in the south, especially farmers of color, who helped deliver some of those states for biden, biden eventually won out with that argument saying this massive sprawling agency is operating remotely with a massive budget. We need someone who knows the building inside and out. So obviously vilsack has been there, but she feels very strongly about the importance of voters in the american south, specifically those rural voters and voters of color. Thats a great point because of democrats have struggled with, in rural america, particularly in white rural areas. But in the black rural communities, as kilauea is talking about here, that, that is the focus here, winning those black rural counties yeah. And stemming their losses in the white dominant, yes. I am from the black rural south of a very small town in south carolina. This is also part of the stacey abrams strategy, right . She is somebody who would go to those rural counties as well and trying to swell the ranks of them black southerners in those rural counties. And then, maybe attract some of these rural right, White Southerners. Well, i think somebody like Tim Waltz can connect particularly with those White Southerners in those rural small towns. He sort of from a small town in nebraska. So i think his history will play well there shes got the personnel to do it. Not only these Tim Waltz, but with quentin fulks, who was there, who kind of did this strategy with Raphael Warnock in those small towns to so its very smart georgia, obviously, very much in play. It wasnt in play under under biden, even though he was narrowly able to win in 20 hey, 20, theyre trying to replicate what he was able to. And this is what he was doing, was able to do in 2020. If you look at the how the state ultimately broke down trump versus biden. Biden ran up the score in urban parts of the state, 35 points. He won the state according to Exit Polls in georgia from 2020 trump did win suburban georgia, but now play as much as he needed to there and rural america, he won by 39 points. Its the Georgia 2016 Exit Polls had clinton winning more of the urban areas, but trump winning but the same, the Trump Era in the rural areas, trump doing better in the suburbs when clinton was on the map. But this is similar to the other states strategy, right . Like they want to do better, run up the score in its big cities like Philadelphia Or Detroit and not do as bad in places where theyve traditionally struggled they do and they also by being there can draw attention to changes to Voting Laws that republicans have made since the 2020 election, since 2022. Referees were not got reelected after some of those changes, but youve seen it seemed lowerlevel media attention, two waves that, which republicans in Power Forward election deniers, people who didnt want 2020 to be, to be affirmed to be sent to the electoral college. Obviously, whatever she said its just going to make a ton of news. She has not done this type of Sit Down yet since becoming a candidate, youre in the room. If you are in the room, what would you be telling her but in your mind, its important to remember that when youre choosing to do an interview, youre not just doing its made Dana Bash happier or mightve youre doing it because you think its you think that its going to advance your topic and someones going to advance your campaign. You got an idea, so its important to see that shes doing this camp. Shes doing this event while shes in georgia, right . What do you make sure my goal of her decision to Sit Down with a Running Mate and again, interview with Tim Walz, not just do it oneonone for the first interview i think it makes sense, right . Maybe youre a little worried. How will she do oneonone . She hasnt really set down anyone since become the top of the ticket for democrats, you want to get her comfortable back into the swing of thing. So i methodically get it. But it is going to give republicans the ammunition to say, well, wait a minute here. When is she going to do what our guy . Is doing, which is taking a ton of questions from adversarial journalists who are constantly attacking him. What every single issue. The showcase that she can lead the country forward. And i suspect that that will come. I want to touch on something quickly though. I think jamal had an excellent analysis on why the Vice President is focusing on georgia, particularly the rural parts of georgia. We oftentimes dismissed the fact that there are a lot of people of color who live in those rural areas. And if you can get those low propensity rural area black voters to turn out its certainly makes a difference marginally speaking, does it mean shell win the state maybe not, but it does make the state more competitive, which means you make your opponent have to spend more resources. There, which expenses . A big reason why xi is going there today, a little less tore through tomorrow. They believe clearly agree with that analysis as well. Now, i want to turn your brother your attention to one of the last big interviews that Kamala Harris did do at least one way for he first started this administration back in june of 2021, talking to Lester Holt of nbc news, something he does republicans still talking about to this day you have any plans to visit the border im Hearing Guatemala Today at some point were going to the border. Weve been to the border. So this whole, this whole, this whole thing about the border. Weve been to the border. Weve been to the border. You havent been to the border . And i havent been to europe and i thought i dont understand the point that youre making. My focus is dealing with the root causes of migration there may be some who think that that is not important but it is my Firm Belief that if we care about whats happening at the border, we better care about the root causes now, jamaal, you are not with the harris admitted by the alphas at that time but you came in afterwards when you look back at that moment, that coup was not one of her best moments. Republicans are still talking about it. What is your takeaway from that and what lessons do you think she has learned from that . It, wasnt, wearing her best bowmans and i think if you go back and look at some of my moments from a year ago when i first got back on cnn, i wouldnt want to have to answer for those either. I made my own mistakes. Heres the thing that was three years ago. And if all of us are judged by something we did in the first six months, if our job we probably never be able to move forward in the last three years. Shes also talked to face the nation. Shes been on meet the press. Shes been on 60 minutes. Shes done all these other really big highprofile interviews, but nobody wants to play those clips. I think this is just republican point to try to make some argument, but i want just last point, Shermichael May to play a minute about Donald Trump during a contentious interviews. Im not sure where hes doing this contentious interviews. Hes on fox news, right . Hes talking to dr. Phil. These are contentious interviews. So now that the Vice President s going to talk to cnn, i want to see down on trump on cnn, i want to see Donald Trump on some of the big major networks talking to them the New York Times talking to some of the major outlet. I dont think hes doing that. I dont think he has the guts to do it, but well see if he does i definitely dont agree with my dear mall on that when i think Donald Trump actually enjoys the backandforth with journalists who challenges him. I think its i think hes right means Doctor Dr. Only goes and i was i think a part of the strategy there is to reach a different sector of low propensity voters specifically men under the age of 40 4018.
