resistance to that message. >> all right, well, we're out of time, but we will continue the beit. i'm sure it was walking the great. >> all right. thanks a lot. battle. thank you for joining us. i'm on a rodgers cnn news central starts right now uncontrolled and dangerous rather across the country in the west, wildfires turned deadly and very destructive buildings going up in flames as thousand because if people fleeing for their lives at the same time, a brutal heatwave is hitting tens of millions of americans as the atlantic seasons first potential tropical storm is brewing in the gulf. just 342 votes. that is, don't razor thin margin in a bruising report public and congressional primary, one of the most conservative members in the country be punished for not endorsing donald trump. brand new surveillance video of the time surrounding justin timberlake's dwi arrest with new details are emerging about how officers say he was behaving. kate is out. i'm john berman was sarah side here and this is cnn news central this one morning, tens of millions of americans on alert as dangerous heat, deadly fires, and the first possible named storm at the 2024 hurricane season all bearing down on the united states. >> but we begin with the deadly fires, a state of emergency has now been declared in new mexico is too fast-moving wildfires scorched hundreds of homes and businesses this morning, we're learning one person has now died as crews battle the raging south fork fire that this hour is still 0% contained, but some weather relief is now on the way. meteorologist, at least rafah joins us now with the latest from the weather center. these fires are incredibly dangerous and we're seeing these pictures that are just unbelievable the videos have been your speech was looking at them, the breadth and the scope of the smoke and the fires we've got two main fires and parts of southern new mexico, neither of which are really all that contained. you can see when we put it on top of the drought monitor, we have extreme and exceptional drought conditions. so that's not helping you have dry fuels. the good news is some rain could creep in as we go through the next day or two because of that tropical system that will make landfall near mexico and texas. you can see the rain is not much, it's scattered but at least that humidity will increase a little bit. so the error is not quite as dry that could help with some of the firefighting on top of this, we're tracking a heat wave that is unprecedented for some parts of the country 82% of the lower 48 will have temperatures above 90 degrees, 260 million people were talking about records falling both daytime highs and overnight lows, more than 150 of them as we go through the next couple of days, look at the high temperatures for today. we're talking about 95 degrees and caribou, if they hit 96 degrees, that would be their hottest temperature ever recorded, period on record, 90 stretch back towards columbus, cincinnati. i mean, again sweltering up in places that typically don't get this hot. you've got to watch his mornings and advisories stretching for a lot of new england lins, the warnings that are issued for parts of maine are the first of its kind. again, unprecedented. the overnight temperatures don't even fall too much. we're looking at overnight temperatures in the middle and upper 70s, and that has that climate change fingerprinted these overnight temperatures four to five times more likely because of our climate change jing sarah, can you talk to me about this potential tropical storm that is brewing? i think nir texas yes, it is in near texas we're already finding some of this rain start to hit along the coast, some showers from corpus christi down towards brownsville, the center of the storm though it looks like it goes over mexico. so this is your classic example of we don't need to be in the cone to get the impacts, the tropical storm warnings stretch for the coast of of texas. they are. and so do flood alerts because we're looking at some heavy rain. this is a lot of tropical moisture. the atmosphere is warm, the oceans are incredibly warm. that's going to take a lot of that moisture in lynn and brings some heavy rain and flooding rain for parts of mexico and texas as we go through the next 24 to 48 hours, we're looking at some pretty encouraging printable rainfall totals, two to four inches, pretty widespread pockets of four to six inches possible from corpus christi up the coast of something that will need to watch over the next couple of days there, sarah, least rafah. >> thank you so much for that, john. >> all right. i a visual proof, sara, of this tropical storm bearing down on texas right now, let's get right to seen as rosa flores who's in corpus christi and rosa, i've been spying on you, getting your shot ready. i think you're standing in history because i saw a parking meter or short time ago, but it looks pretty flooded you are absolutely right. >> we've found the one street in this area that does have some ponding. i want to show you around because corpus christi convey is just here to my left. you can see some of the waves crashing on the beach. >> we are live here in an area. >> this street that leads to the beach each that does have some flooding, some ponding. i can actually measure exactly how much water we have here. it's about eight inches earlier this morning. it was it's more like five, so we can see that there is some of that surge coming in. and according to the national weather service, this area supposed to get between one and three feet of surge. >> but if you keep on looking this dream you can see leads up to the interstate and it's partially flooded. i've taught to officials here, both city officials and county officials they say that they take every weather event very seriously that they are not expecting to issue evacuations. they're expecting between six to eight inches of rain. they say that they get very concerned once it once it's about 50 18 inches of rain, but they're not expecting that right now, but they do say that out of the of an abundance of caution, they have pre-positioned assets, high high-water vehicles rescue goats just in case and look city officials and county officials know exactly where the low-lying areas are in in corpus christi. and so they've also pre-positioned to barricades to make sure that they've barricade streets. if there is some flooding. but again, they're keeping an eye on the situation. john, from talking to this officials at they don't seem to concern. and again, we are hundreds of miles away from the center of that storm that's going to hit mexico but they always, always prepare for the worst. and that's what we're seeing here. just a lot of preparation by city officials just in case just to make sure that residents okay. >> that rosa flores in corpus christi with a ruler stand behind their lettuce no. if the water continues to rise thank you very much, rosa sarah yard breaking overnight, axios reporting the white house has canceled a meeting with israeli officials after prime minister benjamin netanyahu posted a video criticizing united states for withholding weapons shipments. >> and new details about justin timberlake's dwi arrest. see the traffic camera video from moments before police please stop tab. and on this juneteenth, cnn's own victor blackwell retraces his roots to a virginia enslaved woman who sued for her freedom one, what that revelation has meant for his family about the seed that name with the 122 i was yeah it is both humbling but also gives my family place night cnn celebrates june let performances by john legend, eddie lewbel, smokey robinson. >> we still have a lot of work to do. >> juneteenth celebrating freedom and legacy. to night on cnn. >> it's so easy to get your windshield replaced using safe flight wanted you just get a fixed. all right. so what do we do now? >> well, sarah, this seems to represent another tension point between the us and israel at this beane in response to israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu's recent claim that it was inconceivable. the us would be withholding aid from ukraine. comments that yesterday the white house said they had no idea what he was talking about. now, as you noted, axios reporter and cnn contributor barak ravid said that one high level meeting between the us and israel has been canceled. it's worth noting. he also said that there is still another meeting between jake's sullivan and his counterpart in israel that is expected to happen a bit later tomorrow. but in this reporting, he also noted that almost hochstein aaa key adviser to president biden, who has been traveling in israel and lebanon told netanyahu directly at his comments were inaccurate and out of line. now, it's unclear what exactly netanyahu was referring to in may. it was revealed that the us was putting a pause on a shipment of heavy bombs to israel out of concern about their operations and rafah, just yesterday, secretary of state antony blinken said that that is still under review while also noting he would not comment on his diplomatic conversations with netanyahu, who had said that blinken had offered him assurances that they were trying to free up some of these bottlenecks. take a listen we, as you know are continuing to review one shipment that president biden has talked about with regard to 2000 pound bombs, because the verb concerns about their use in a densely populated area. >> like rafah that remains other under review but everything else is moving as it normally would move. >> we generally do not know what he's talking about. >> we just don't know. >> we are still waiting to hear from the white house this morning confirmation that this meeting has been canceled, but it does come at a time when the us has throughout this eight-month war, nine months war in gaza, a continued to provide arms sales and transfers to israel. so what we will see exactly what the white house has to say going forward, but it's clear that this is something that the white house maybe a bit frustrated about as their hearing these comments from netanyahu all right. >> thank you. are left. let's go now to paula. what are you seeing as far as reaction there after prime minister netanyahu made these comments well, sarah, we're not finding anybody to speak on the record to this. no one appears to want to put their name to this video. but what we are seeing really is the netanyahu supporters standing by him and those critics of netanyahu effectively saying don't bite the hand that feeds you so very much along the very polarized party lines here. now was i'll let mentioned, i must hochstein was just in the region trying to calm the situation down between israel and hezbollah. now tuesday night, there was a nine minute video that was released by hezbollah purported to have been filmed on a drone. and it shows the city hi food shows many residential areas. it shows military facilities, iron dome batteries, missile storage sites, radar sites, for example, the sorts of things israel does not want to published and certainly doesn't want its enemies to know and they have said that this is just the first episode suggesting that there is more of this drone footage potentially to come. so that's really spooked some in israel. but what we also heard from the idf on tuesday night was that they have approved and validated operational plans for an operation in lebanon. now, i must caution, this does not mean that an operation is imminent, but it does show that israel wants everybody to know that they are ready should that eventuality be necessary? sarah, i'm certainly the world watching fear of a regional war is a real one, especially after seeing that in hearing the reaction from israel, paula hancocks from jerusalem. thank you so much as well as arlette saenz from the white house. appreciate you both are at new video this morning of what appears to be justin timberlake driving just moments before his arrest. that's coming up. >> also russian president gets the red carpet treatment in pyongyang, north korea. >> what is happened? >> in these meetings with these two dictators then i your man watch all do episodes of a practical jokers on a new network july 11, tbs you will mate to find inner peace we were made to track flight prices to paradise if you're shopping for a home realtor.com only shows you homes for sale source directly from professionals, meaning you can trust every home listing is a realistic don't all have to do that. >> not really. trust the number one app real estate professional stressed right now, you can get a free foot locker sap way just by entered foot login to app and get one free. just scan the qr code and enter promo code fifo go. it only worked on not a satisfactory three buddy, you still got a landline a your house on a mountain subway out can the riva support your brain health? >> yeah. john, nothing yet from justin timberlake. that's for sure. no comment from him. his ribs and not even from his attorney who he appeared in court just this time yesterday morning, a width that local attorney, what we do know though, is what we're learning from the court documents that were released after that court date, and it details a lot of what police say happened during that dwi stop. what they say is that justin timberlake, was that a hotel just on the street from where we are here in sag harbor leaving there at about 12:30 in the morning, billy's say that he blew through a stop sign and then he was seen about swerving through leinz for about six blocks or so before they eventually pulled him over. and according to the police officer, who were body camera footage, they said during that stop, they noticed that justin timberlake was slurring his speech, was talking a little bit slow when he was reaching for his vehicle registration and then they did a field sobriety tests where they said he had unsteady footing, any failed that field sobriety tests. and according to that core paperwork and police, once they actually brought him into custody for this charge of 11 count dwi, they said that he refused a breathalyzer tests three times. and so of course he spent the night in jail and he was arraigned yesterday morning and released on his own recognizance. now does have another court dates, and that is going to be said for about a month from now, july 26. that'll be a virtual appearance. so he won't have to appear in person here in sag harbor. again, one thing else that police say he said when they pulled them over, he said, quote, i had one martini and i followed my friends home. so that is the most that we have gotten out of justin timberlake at this point. important to know if he is on tour right now, john, i mean, a world tour. he is it's supposed to be in the congo for some concerts this weekend, coming back to new york for madison square garden next week. >> and then on that court date, he's actually in poland with the concert for day john. oh, wow. well, interesting to see how this develops as we hear more about that moment from when he's arrested brynn gingras set and sag harbor great to have you there. thank you very much. >> so not just close, but really really close. just a few hundred votes separate the candidates. one of the most conservative members of congress poised me me to lose his seed unless he could overcome what might be his grave with political sin, apparently, not endorsing donald trump for president and one of the greatest athletes ever to walk the face of the earth. in fact, in center field, he could cover nearly the entire earth. >> remembering willie mays, a true legend the most anticipated moment of this election. >> and the stakes couldn't be higher. the present and the former president, one stage, moderated by jake tapper and dana bash. those cnn presidential debates thursday, june 27th, nine live. i'd cnn and streaming unmapped next, when migraine strikes, do you question the trade-offs of treating you've rally is another option, it works best to eliminate migraine pain. do not take a strong cyp 3a4 inhibitor here's allergic reactions. can you grow? this morning from the vote the other thing that i'm paying attention to right now is eugene vindman winning his nomination for democratic nomination in virginia and vindman and his brother, alexander have been key architects in defying president trump and whistleblowing on trump's involvement in talking to the president of ukraine and trying to get information about donald about joe biden and his family and return. >> and what's telling here is that trump and his past actions that have led to his impeachment are still on the minds of voters as we go into 2024. and i look right now overall, what we're seeing across the country is a very, very close range at the presidential level and there has been questions about whether at voters are paying attention to the trump administration and trump's tenure as president. but these, these votes indicate that it's his record is still very much on their mind certainly democrats keeping that in the forefront. what happened on january 6 as well, daniel krauss. thank you so much. i appreciate your time. john wright with us now, former deputy communications director for donald trump's 2016 campaign. bryan lanza and cnn political commentator and democratic strategists, maria cardona. it's great to have you both here. i see your instagrams and you guys like have a roadshow right now, traveling the country, doing political panels. so it's great for me to get that she has to talk to both you, brian. i want to talk about this virginia congressional race here. it's so interesting, bob, good. >> honestly, you couldn't get a more conservative member of congress. freedom caucus chair. he is so trump be yet because he endorsed ron desantis in the primary. >> trump world, turns on him and won't take him back. >> is that the right way to grow the party? >> for first of all, good morning. thank you for having me. the answer is, you know, bob. bob good. is alienating nearly every faction of the republican party. i think that's the challenge here is in politics, personalities matter, and he's managed to sort of rubbed sharp elbows with personalities that do matter in electoral politics. one was against president trump you have to keep in mind president trump endorsed has guy two years ago, are actually four years ago when he ran. so for him to reverse and endorse governor desantis, that was disloyal. that was seen as something that was just a thing too far for president trump and then good has is his problems with mccarthy. so you had two factions, the republican party that carry a lot wait with the republican party you got mccarthy's money, you've got donald trump's support is just a bad recipe, but i will say this. bob, good ran with trying to fake the voters that he had donald trump's endorsement. he had yard signs all over his district with donald trump so i think he just goes to show you where is the election is really, really close. but at the end of the de, the primary voters that even bob good knows that donald trump is the republican party and voters look to see what he's doing whatever happens here, maria, this is likely a republican seats. it was or anything here for you for the democratic party well, i think what it underscores, john is what we've known for some time now, which is that the republican party really no longer exists. >> it's the donald trump party. and what bob good it was the biggest cardinal sin in donald trump's party. and that is to have a mind of his own and especially when that mind, i think understands that you probably don't want to have now a criminal of 34 times convicted felon at the top of the ticket, he probably while this coming and which is why at the very beginning and he wasn't the only one. let's remember that way back then at the beginning of the, of the gop primary, a lot of republicans were trying to get behind ron desantis. he was the golden boy. he was the one who was going to push donald trump aside because i think so many republicans understand that at the end of the day, donald trump is going to be the end of the republican party. and that's exactly what has happened. and bob good had the gall to have a mind of his own and now he's paying for it. and so i think that message, john, that the donald trump party is totally focused on being much it's more like a dictator then a republican nominee, i think is a message that works for democrats. >> if you had maria cardona sticking up for bob, good on your bingo card, man hats off to you. >> that's right. it's a bet with long or too few years ago. there is a new book coming out called apprentice in wonderland, where the author rhombus and duda interview donald trump, a number of times, mostly about the apprentice in trump's role in the entertainment industry for a long time. but the author also said that trump seemed to have a lot of trouble remembering things for instance, like joan rivers, who was a celebrity apprentice candidate, who passed away in 2014. listen to this finitely told me and declared that joan rivers voted for him when he ran for president. and gender refers died in 2004. genera reside in 2014. so she would not have been able to vote for donald trump in there's just a little bit more of this. i want to play. this was an interview that rahm said you did with katelyn last night, just about what the author believed about donald trump's memory. listen my first sentence down was in may. he wasn't doing a lot of interviews and then we sat down again towards the end of the summer. and when i sat down, i there was a very blank expression on his face. so i asked you remember when we spoke recently and he said now i have no memory of that and he couldn't recall. he said it was a long time ago and then we had to start from scratch. so the interview started from square one where he was started telling me the same exact story is that we that i heard in our first interview. so from there then we did more interviews so that we could cover more ground. but it was a little bit like groundhog day brian, what do you think? i mean, an eight days we have the current up on our screen right here. we're going to see this debate with the two oldest candidates in campaign history on stage. and it seems to be an issue for both of them. >> no, actually, it's not an issue for both of them. first of all, i have my doubts on this book, this author you've seen, you've seen throughout the years a lot of authors have misstated their interviews with president trump but you'd also seen throughout the years, a lot of reporters have interviewed president trump and none of them have ever stated that they've seen president trump have any type of cognitive issues. so certainly reporters who a critical the president have been around have had these interviews and have never stayed in anything like that. so i'm very suspicious about this author probably joining the left and trying to conflate the issues you, joe biden's cognitive decline is a real issue. he can not find his way off a stage. president trump can. he cannot, he forgets what decade he's talking about? sure candidates, miss speak all the time and we see that. but it's hard to deny that the cognitive decline we're seeing we've been before, joe biden is, it takes place and trying to conflate it and say both parts, both sides, dude, is very dangerous. i mean, we we we represent power and this earth and the world, and having a president that can't display that and having a president looks it's week and having a president looks lost on the domestic and international stage is very, very dangerous for us and confer aiding this is dangerous itself may have very quickly i agree it will be dangerous, brian, and that's why we can elect donald trump. you had ceos in a recent meeting saying that he was meandering, he couldn't hold the thought. he was talking gibberish. you've seen clips of donald trump misstating nancy pelosi four nikki haley talking about sharks, talking about windmills, also so john, to your point, it is an issue for both men and we are going to see this at the debate. but what i say that the majority of americans believe is what i've heard in focus because focus groups which has look both dudes are old, but i prefer old and steady than old and crazy. and i think that's the big contrast that we're going to see in november that debate just eight days away, like nothing we have seen before, bryan lanza, maria cardona. >> thanks to both of you. appreciate you being here. sarah. >> all right. john, today we celebrate juneteenth, also known as a men's a patient de the holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the us. victor blackwell, host of first of all, on cnn on saturday is traced his family's history back more than 300 years and now he's digging even deeper into that passed. he joins us now. victor, at some of these these images that we're seeing just in the teases are incredible. what was this like for you you know, this story about my family's history is the story i'm asked most often about in the grocery store or at the airport and it's fueled this curiosity within my family and now we are traveling and meeting new relatives and now in this story, you're going to learn how we got our last name it's been one year since my family learned about astonishing history that brought me to tears this is i was covering the opening of the international african american museum in charleston, south carolina. and through the genealogists in its center for family history, i learned that in the late 18th century and enslaved woman in northumbria, linn county, virginia named sarah my seven times great grandmother sued her enslaver for her freedom and the freedom of her for descendants. >> and one, dr. shelley murphy is the centers director you're lying started out in slave in became free to up until where you're at right now yeah. >> hi. how are you? >> good to see recently, i invited dr. murphy to baltimore or to meet my mother and my cousins all overwhelmed by the discovery all beneficiaries of sarah is groundbreaking in lawsuit. >> women's step up and speak out about their freedom back then it was just incredible that threat of being killed or so unbelievable unbelievable. >> and that's something that should go generations that just blew me away, that this was an alkaloid line. you know, sometimes you think it, but you we all bow from a sad that our parents especially as far yeah who were blackwells not to see it didn't know it. it would've been. a story that they would've been so proud and would've passed an all to us yeah, they know. and last summer, my mother and our cousins drove to the county where sarah one her freedom to pass that story on. >> while we took a trip down to north family and county? yes. last summer, blackwell reunion. we didn't know how how the no. here netfabb i'm long and then find out more about the blackwells unfortunately, we didn't know much about outside of the family growing up, that journey begins here in montgomery, alabama with bryan stevenson. he's the executive director of the equal justice initiative, and its new massive national monument to freedom. >> it's created by reviewing the 18, 70 census and the 18 70 census. and the united states was the first time that formerly enslaved people had an opportunity to claim a surname that the government would recognized more than 122,000 surnames on this wall, front and back, about four stories tall and about half the length of a football field yes. >> we want to tell the story about the jr.'s and the degradation and the violence of slavery. but we also want to tell the other story about the resilience of enslaved it's people, about the courage, the strength, the perseverance. >> there you are just jumped out at, there it is. >> yes, it is the seed that name with the what, 122,000 others yeah. it is both humbling but also gives my family place. yes. that's right. 40% of the people who were enslaved claim names that were associated with enslavers, not to honore the enslaver, but they were just trying to create in ship and community with brothers and sisters and parents. they didn't want to give up on that, so they adopted those names, so they sold all good exactly the block well line came in to the virginia colonies and 16, 36 joseph blackwell up in to north number month. >> dr. murphy and other genealogists traced three blackwell family lines coming into the colonies. but murphy was only able to connect my line to the start of the 19th century there's a me, shaq blackwell, and amishi junior blackwell and the first one was born about 18:10. >> my great, great, great, great grandfather just because of the area, virginia, nine times i can he would have been enslaved. >> i've never really heard much about the blackboard so to hear this and good information on this is the value guler there are so many more questions to be answered, but the more we look, the more we learn, the more we appreciate our ancestors. >> and there will two persevere, i think to know that you are the heir of people who found a way to survive, who found a way to overcome all of the hardship? something that, that should generate wow, i'm watching it back now. >> i'm filled with gratitude for everyone there. the equal justice initiative and dr. murphy for helping us find a more answers about our family. and there's something house i want you to see that lawsuit that sara filed in the late 1780s and the decision by the judge after we learned of it i made sure we all had copies of it and i think we have video it is hanging in each one of our homes. i have it hanging in my home with a plan that gets in my mother's home, my cousin zelda, cousin tony, they have it as well and now there are more people are asking for copies. >> this is a reminder of the fight. >> in our family for freedom. and as i am grateful for those who thought to be free, i am just as grateful for those in my of my ancestors who simply survived the suffering of slavery for four centuries. so yeah, this has been a really enriching project if not for that fight and the fight of those just simply survived we wouldn't have you. and that would be a huge detriment. i got chills watching that. what an incredible story and what i love victor is that you found your folks in other places that you knew nothing about and brought them together in about them. beautiful. >> it's a perfect story for juneteenth. >> i appreciate you all right and don't forget to an end to cnn's special event juneteenth, celebrating freedom and legacy. you can watch it right here on cnn are streaming on max tonight, 10:00 p.m. eastern and pacific all right. just ahead as wildfire spread, a state of emergency is declared in new mexico a live report showing you the devastation there. that's coming up and fight in late playing zelda means you can actually play as zelda gamers are gonna love this hey mom how many should i decorate it has ran half blue that's a really tough call. >> who are you if you look at the latest data? seeing this well, sarah, frankly, i think that the west is still digesting this or contexts in dc here in seoul certainly r2. >> so let's just break down what happens sort of take a breath here on the korean peninsula because it is a lot. so we have sarah, first of all, these indelible images of two or three terrion leaders in an open open limousine through the streets of pyongyang to accrue and a crowd of thousands of people. so that was the pageantry and pyongyang part one of this play that has just ended about an hour-and-a-half, two hours ago. but then we get down to the nitty britney, what has been agreed upon, sara, we've been talking about for days, what would happen if there was the possibility that both russia and north korea said they would come to each other's defense if one of them were attacked or came under aggression and it seems as though that has come to fruition. both of these countries signaling that if one of them comes under regression, very vague term, sarah, that there would be the possibility that either of these countries nuclear north korea, or nuclear russia, would come to each other's defense. let's listen to what vladimir we're putting had to say on that point but the sun is the comprehensive partnership agreement signed today, provides, among other things, just for the provision of mutual assistance in the event of a aggression against one of the parties to this agreement? so i know it's a little wonky. the provision of mutual assistance, why this matters is because we're looking at this treaty, sarah, it was signed between khrushchev and kim il sung the founder of north korea, back in 1961, july of 1961, its wording very strong. it's a get both militaries shao come to the immediate assistance of either country. if either of them came under regression are under attack. so we're really going to be looking to the pentagon western alliances to respond to this agreement. and pyongyang, which just wrapped up, what does this mean for how we he for our governments react to this new agreement, this new alliance that remains to be seen, the dust here, it's fair to say sarah is just settling. so there's a lot to work through in the next couple of hours it is always fascinating to see north korea and just how choreographed everything is and what they did for vladimir putin is significant. >> all right. mike valeria. thank you so much for your reporting. that was great. thank you, john. >> i knew this morning cnn has learned that the us and several key allies are weighing how much to push for ukraine's membership in nato ahead of next month's 75th anniversary summit, the us is now facing some criticism for not being willing to go as far as some european countries would like seen as and touch her bertrand is in washington with the latest on this. good morning. and asha good morning, john. yeah. this is being painstakingly debated ahead of next month. really historic nato summit here in washington, dc, with us and german officials were told pushing for language that provides ukraine with a quote, bridge to nato membership and not as strong as what yen stoltenberg, who is the secretary general well, i've nato had said in april, which is that ukraine's path to nato membership should be quote, irreversible, which is language that is supported by the uk and some central and eastern european countries. now, why does this matter? it really matters because of course, during this nato summit, there, the alliance is going to submit a communicate to the world that is going to signal just what ukraine's place in nato ultimately is going to be. it's not binding, but it is a deeply symbolic document that really lays out the path that ukraine has to becoming a full member of nato, something that they have aspire to really for decades now because of the constant threat posed by russia. now eastern and central european countries, of course, they are disappointed at this point because they believe that the us is not willing to go far enough to signal to vladimir putin that ukraine's ultimate place is in nato. but the us were told they are reluctant to use that word irreversible because they say ukraine has not necessarily finalized all of the commitments that it needs to do to actually become a full nato member, including some democratic anti-corruption reforms. so one central european diplomat told us that, they are disappointed by the biden administration's ambiguity and procrastination when it comes to outlining this concrete pathway for ukraine. so vladimir putin, of course, we'll be watching this very closely next month. but the language here still being very painstakingly debated, john. >> so standby. all right. natasha bertrand. thank you very much for that. there. >> all right. this morning, new federal budget data shows a us deficit will hit 1.9 trillion this year. that is 27% higher than the congressional budget office estimated earlier this year, cnn's matt egan is joining us now. wow, the economy. look in pretty good the budget deficit look in pretty terrible. >> yeah, absolutely. so this was a very sobering report. we knew them budget was a mess. it's even worse than we realize. cbo now projecting 1.9 trillion for the federal deficit this fiscal year. this is massive and it's $400 billion larger than the estimated just a few months ago, 27% increase. remember the deficit is the difference between how much the government brings in revenue and how much it spends. the few major drivers here, the biggest is about $145 billion in spending related to student debt relief also, fdic deposit insurance related to the bank failures of last year, discretionary spending increases, medicaid spending, no matter the driver, what's concerning here is the trend when we look back to fiscal
