a criticism, that was a kind of oh, well. what's your response to that? >> i thought the whole idea was to win the 2024 election, and defeat joe biden and to show who, in fact, could do that in this field. when you watched last night, the juvenile back and forth between vivek ramaswamy and nikki haley, the nonsubstantiative answers from ron desantis on almost every topic last night, looked like he had memorized all of his answers and was relieved when he could get them out and get them done. those are not the kind of people who are going to beat the democrats next november. and the fact what i wanted to show everybody is what it looks like to be able to take on the democrats directly and to be able to give them a new look at what the republican party should look like. everybody complained about how much we lost on tuesday night yet they continued the same rhetoric and the same behavior on the stage last night. all four of them continued the same, and the fifth one, ignoring the republican electorate. ignoring independents at a rally and another place in florida because he's too much of a coward to get on the stage and defend his record. these folks last night still said nothing about the fitness of donald trump for president of the united states. they dance around it. i didn't dance around it. my first answer right out of the box, and i'm not going to dance around it now to the convention. >> to that point, there's endless discussion about poll after poll after poll. one of the most striking numbers in the "new york times" sienna poll, what would happen to his republican support if donald trump was convicted and imprisoned. you said this last night, take a listen. s >> i'll say this about donald trump, anybody who's going to be spending the next year and a half of their life focused on keeping themselves out of jail or the courtrooms cannot lead this party or this country. it needs to be said plainly. >> governor, do you think trump will end up convicted here? >> yes, i don't think there's any doubt anymore that in the january 6th case, he's going to be convicted. i want everyone out there to remember something, the first witness against donald trump in that trial that starts the day before super tuesday is going to be mark meadows, his former chief of staff, who is cooperating with the federal government. he's going to testify that donald trump was lying from election night forward and committed crimes right in front of his eyes. this is not some rogue democratic prosecutor, and this is not a product of the two-tiered justice system that donald trump likes to talk about. this is one of the founders of the freedom caucus, and his former chief of staff who he referred to as the next james baker is going to be sitting 20 feet from him in a courtroom and telling a jury that he committed crimes against the united states. he is going down. the walls are closing in, and he knows it. that's why he won't show up on the debate at what his schedule is, and he doesn't usually release his schedule weeks in advance. it is going to be a week-to-week adventure for us. i can tell you this, ron desantis and nikki haley have no interest on getting on the same stage with donald trump. they won't mention his name except for a passing glance last night, and still, they're the ones that raised their hands in the first debate, and haven't come back since to say they would support him even if he's a convicted felon. to me that's disqualifying, if one of them is the republican nominee for president that you won't be seeing the hand raised video from joe biden and the democrats every day of the general election campaign, you're dreaming. >> governor chris christie, it was a substantiative debate last night, another one unsealed court documents allege that meta ceo mark zuckerberg ignored proposals from executives, aimed at mental health. those details ahead. lights, camera, action as sag-aftra reaches a tentative deal with major film and tv studios, after four months. that means about 160,000 film and tv actors could return to work as soon as today. our senior media analyst, reporter of axios, sarah fisher joins us now. it took a long time. what do we know about what they got, the actors? >> poppy, they had a huge wage increase. this might be one of the biggest wage increases that they have seen in four decades, and landmark provisions around artificial intelligence. this was the big sticking point at the end of negotiations. essentially for the first time in the actor's guild history, there are provisions around how studios can use ai to replicate actors making this a landmark deal. >> i also want to talk to you about a story of significance surrounding mark zuckerberg, the ceo of meta. there are these newly unsealed court documents, and they allege that zuckerberg repeatedly ignored proposaled bs by high ranking executives aimed at improving mental health on the platforms. the e-mails are part of the ongoing lawsuit filed by massachusetts last month, and one of the initiatives that they allege that zuckerberg vetoed is 2019. it would have disabled those so-called beauty filters on instagram. if you look at the complaint, zuckerberg argued there was a demand, and he didn't see any data to suggest they were har harmful. meta executives sounded the alarm on well being concerns. they recommend the company address issues of addiction, self-harm, bullying, this was the summer of 2021, and months later, these documents say, a response came from the cfo who tersely responded that staffing was too, quote, restrained to meet the requests. these are the allegations in the suit, but they're significant, are they not, especially given how much control zuckerberg has of this company? >> they're very significant, poppy, because they're starting to lead to other lawsuits. you saw just a few weeks ago you had over four dozen, you know, u.s. state attorneys general join together and say that they're going to sue meta for this exact reason. they're also significant because if you think about facebook's user base or instagram's user base more so, it's extraordinarily young. the future relies on young users. if lawmakers are going to push restrictions, that's going to impact their business enormously. >> can you also speak to zuckerberg's power, the power structure within facebook and how that's different than a lot of companies that might have some more checks? >> absolutely, i mean, not only is he technologically speaking in terms of voting, the sole controller of the company, but what these documents show is he has unilateral control over small decisions over things like how we're building products for kids. that was the thing the whistleblower testifying in the senate yesterday wanted to call to the attention of members of congress, essentially saying, look, i flagged these issues. the topmost people at meta, and they themselves were the ones who made these certain decisions. it speaks to the fact that processes underneath them to double check could be over rode easily. >> the guy heading up instagram at the time, we did invite mark zuckerberg on the program, nick clegg, we continue to welcome them if they would like to join us to discuss the issues. i want to read a statement that came from a spokesperson for meta, and let me read you, quote, we have protections to help keep teens safe and away from potentially harmful content or unwanted contact. the complaint is filled with selective quotes from hand-picked documents that do not provide the context of how the company operates or what decisions they have made. we'll keep following this. who came out on top in round 3 for republican >> you still see the party trying to sort out whether it needs a national position, which is what tim scott was arguing for or nikki haley arguing for more of an acceptance of the state-by-state regime, which we're putting in place in some of these elections and state legislatures across the country. she did have an interesting moment with scott, i thought. he's calling for this national plan, and she said there's got to be 60 votes for the senate for anything. i think everybody believes that, but the question is can you run a presidential campaign on not having a national unified position as a party. the democrats are far more unified on this than the republicans, so i think the division is going to continue to exist honestly, and for the candidates who are running for iowa like desantis, they've got to be here. i think haley may be playing more for new hampshire, gives her a little more latitude here to soften the rhetoric where she expects to make her stand. >> i think one of the dchallengs on this issue was really played out in tuesday's election. if the republican party goes, you know, harder to a more narrow, one standard, like the 15-week, they're going to lose voters, and they're going to lose voters in places like ohio where i bet they never thought they were going to lose voters. so this issue, you're right, i think you need to be unified politically in the primary. but then if they have that tough position, it's really going to hurt them in the general. as we saw on tuesday. so they're really kind of stuck. >> i mean, the republican party has to have a tough talk with its activist wing. the part of the party that has pushed them to embrace the most ardent antiabortion stances is clearly out of line with the majority of the electorate. i think that's what's playing out here on this stage. you have various degrees of willingness from those candidates to really kind of speak to those activists directly. speak to some of the evangelicals, nikki haley was doing to basically say we can't go that far on this issue, and i would as as donald trump has done, create distance from them. as i talked to the susan b. anthony wing, they're pushing candidates to embrace the national standard because they actually agree that not having a stance is hurting the party. so they would actually say the kind of evangelical, like the most ardent wing, the group of people who see this as a human rights issue, they would say you need to be talking about a 15-week standard. not having a kind of clear consensus position is not helping the party also. >> i think what's interesting, you connect abortion clearly obviously literally to what happened on tuesday night. tuesday night was a string, part of a string of democratic wins over and over and over again, particularly in the bwake of dobbs. a couple of candidates seemed to get at that last night. take a listen. >> i'm upset about what happened last night. we have become a party of losers at the end of the day. >> we've got to do a better job on the referenda. i think of all the stuff that's happened to the pro life cause, they have been caught flat footed on these referenda, and they have been losing the referenda. >> to ramaswamy's point, i'm not saying he's reflective of where the republican party is because i don't want scott to lunge across the table but the idea of in the midterms, despite biden's numbers, in special election after special election, 2018, 2020, the head of the party was donald trump. there's a way to connect that message. >> he went squarely after rnc chair, ronna mcdaniel, and called for her resignation last night and called us a party of losers. he never drew the line. who put ron nna mcdaniel in as c chair, and who is running the party now. he even at one point said the gop establishment. who's the establishment of the republican party right now? donald trump is the establishment and his person is running the rnc, the fact that he wouldn't do that or is trying to do a slight of hand. first of all, it's par for the course on him. i thought that was a weird, candidly, moment for him. >> there's interesting reporting this morning from axios, given what happened on tuesday and looking at last night that democrats are working furiously to put abortion-related issues on the ballot in key swing states. florida is going to be tougher with the ban. but also nevada and arizona. they see that as a reason for people to go to the polls and a reason to boost biden. >> absolutely. i mean, democrats see a clear path to an electoral victory in 2024. it has nothing to do with the top of the ticket. they have a uniquely unifying issue. when we think about how we talk to others about what parties can stand for, it can feel like an ideological mess. there's a clear story. democrats and the party want to expand it. that has been where they stand. and so that has created a clear delineation. >> the other reason democrats want to put the questions on the ballot is because we know we can win, and bring protection for women and girls and families, which is after dodd, so critically needed. >> one thing about the issue, too, it's seen everywhere. money follows this issue. democrats essentially have unlimited money where this becomes an issue on the referenda. andy beshear in kentucky, my home state, he had unlimited money and a lot of it was spent on the issue of abortion. in terms of motivating voters, it motivates donors. republicans are playing from behind in all of these states when it comes to just being able to battle it out on the messaging. >> as you transition into a small donor-driven party as republicans have, if this isn't an issue that animates small doe no, sir, -- donor, you have a problem. one thing that struck me, why doesn't biden saying flip the house, i will codify roe v. wade, we saw that a couple of times. >> that could happen. a big question like that, timing. you don't want to peak too early with a galvanizing message like that. i wouldn't be surprised if we see the white house go there. >> i think phil makes a good point. that was what every democrat was saying, codify, codify, what they didn't say is we cannot do that with this senate, but to phil's point, if you can get there, you can do t and that's the only way you change things now. >> you make it a one-two punch, and i think we'll see the white house do that. >> thanks, guys, appreciate it. the u.s. military striking a weapons facility in syria, one used by iran's revolutionary guard and other affiliated group according to the pentagon, following this attack on an american drone by iran-backed houthi forces. iran's ambassador to the u.n. joins us next. and let's keep a focus on the more than 200 hostages held by hamas in gaza. prime minister netanyahu says there will be no cease fire until all of those hostages are released. johnhn kirby wilill jojoin u use white e house withth the efforo geget them outut. u.s. offic strike launched over syria was launched in self-defense, but also as a clear message to iran amid heightened tensions in the middle east. two fighters jets in eastern syria, uit comes the same day a unmanned drone was shot down by houthi rebels. the u.s. strike, a response to a growing number of attacks against u.s. personnel in iraq and syria. since october 17th, u.s. and coalition forces have been targeted at least 41 times by one-way attack drones or rocket attacks, and since hamas's attack on israel last month, the u.s. has sent significant fire power to the middle east as a deterrent to a widening conflict, according to administration officials and to show support for forces in the region. joining us now is the iranian ambassador to the u.n., saeed iravani, i want to start with the strike the pentagon talked about last night. they said it was at a warehouse that had weapons utilized to attack forces, and what is your response to that? >> hello, thank you for having me on this program as i may say that any attacks against u.s. forces in the region, i think we can divide it in two parts. one is part before october 7th operation and the second after that. before the 7th of october, i think that the syrian resistance movement, they're seeing that there are some parts of the country has been occupied by the united states and they are supporting the group inside syria, squandering natural resources. it is a natural reaction, but after the 7th of october, i think that it is the latest action that the resistance group, they will show supporting the allies in palestine, which is facing a very criminal attack by the israeli regime. so we have said very clear that iran is not involving in any attack against the united states forces in the region. it is a natural reaction by the resistance group. it is their own adddecision by their own direction. >> we have seen attacks in hezbollah and lebanon, shiite militias in syria as we discussed against israel and u.s. force, not to mention what we saw on october 7th. the connective thread by all of those groups is iranian support. you say there's no direct connection to iran. do these groups operate unilaterally, you don't believe iran has any say over what they do or what attacks they launch? >> you see that we have a system of resistance movement in the region, and iran is one part of this system, and any resistance group, they have their own benefit, they have their own decision. they have their own strategy also, but they have some cooperation and collaboration in general common goals also. so iran is not involving and iran is not imposing its demand on them. >> but, i mean, i wouldn't say you're part of the system. i think everybody would say over the top of the system, given the hundreds of millions of dollars of support in terms of military assistance, training, just funds generally. you're saying that you're not signing off on anything. they don't have to come to you for approval for anything? >> see, i told you that we have some cooperation and c collaboration, but we are not directing them. the same argument we have as the united states says about supporting israel. the united states says that we are providing any assistance israel needs for the war. we have the same argument that we are saying that we are going to provide any support they need for the defense against the occupier forces. >> u.s. officials, including the president have made very clear statements to iran publicly about their concerns about an expansion of the conflict in the region, and we're also told that they have tried to -- they have sent messages to iranian fishes privately through intermediaries. at the u.n., have you had any conversations with your u.s. counter parts about not expanding the conflict? >> no, i have not any direct conversation with my counter part in the united nations, but as it is very clear that we have told the united states that these attacks is related to level of support from the israeli, but expanding of the new front of the war, we insists that we are not going to expand this war front also, and we are trying to keep calm and serve resistance. it has two sides. one side, we are telling our allies in the region that keep calm, but the other side should do the same, keep calm the israeli aggression. i think as ny possibility may happen. >> do you believe hamas was right to take women and children hostage along with murdering women and children on october 7th? >> you see that we cannot read the book from the middle page and draw our conclusion. we should see that the background of this operation, it is back to the 75 years of the occupation. >> i understand that. but the direct question i'm asking you is on taking women and children as hostage. i believe that's explicitly forbidden by islam. i'm trying to figure out if that's a move iran supports. >> you should take the response from the hamas group. we know that we have not involved in this operation, and we have not participated in the planning and decision making or directing of this operation. it was not have also any consultation with hezbollah also as the leader of hezbollah said some days ago. we don't know any details about this operation. it was their own decision and their own direction. >> i understand the point you're making here. what i'm asking is given the fact that you support financially and you have made clear while you might not have the final decision making process, you do support hamas generally, is do you support, you communicate with them, do you support the taking of women and children as hostage? >> i think that it is not good proper time to combine domestic issues of iran with the issue of the war in palestine. i think it is better to concentrate on the other issues. the crimes has happened in the palestine. on that time, has raised four allegations against russia that russia has been military aggression. russia has occupied. russia has annexation some parts of the territory. and russia has aggression against civilian infrastructure of the -- the same thing has happened in palestine also, but what was the reaction of the west? >> this investigation goes back to 2020. according to prosecutors, the men who were running this operation used two different websites to advertise sexual services with primarily asian women. potential clients with receive a text messages with women, sexual services and hourly rates which range from 350 to $600. then in order to become a client, they had to provide quite a bit of personally identifying information, including their driver's license, photos, information about their employer, and then they would subscribe to a monthly service. now, gathering some of that information is a way to possibly protect some of these women, but it also means they have a lot of your personal information. it opens some of these clients up to possible vulnerabilities. i wondered what makes this high end. why is this a high-end brothel? according to prosecutors it's because of the type of apartment that they were using. apparently these apartments rented for over $5,000 a month in some cases. they are also using that classification because of the types of professions their clients engaged in. as you noted, we are talking about military officials, elected officials, and government contractors who had security clearances. >> and how high up did they go, the klein clientele?
