Hello and welcome to cnn newsroom, im john vause at the cnn center in atlanta with our ongoing coverage of israels war with hamas. Two more women being held by hamas and gaza have been released, but Militant Group is Still Holding more than 200 hostages, all of whom kidnapped 16 days ago during that that layer must act on israel. The two women or released to the red cross at the Rafah Crossing on the border with egypt, both are israelis. Have now been reunited with families at a Medical Center in israel. Not long after, the woman or, released the daughter and grandson have spoke to cnn. It is impossible to describe. My mom i think she has a smile. I dont know. I am so glad, my heart is with this is a small ray of light in a big story that is my father is there. There are so many other people. We are waiting for good news about everyone. I have seen pictures of her in a hospital bed, she is waving her hand i know that she is well enough to speak. And she is well enough to walk. I think she walked across the border. So my mom story is an amazing story, my heart is with my father and the other 280 people also that are still held hostage. This is a great sign that other things can happen. I was thinking that i would never see her again and see her here, it is just amazing. She is a hero. She has so much courage. She is so strong. She is sick and she suffered, tunnels and so many things. She is, i dont know. I dont know where this woman has this power from. Seeing her, which i know she is so strong, i can imagine another one and im telling you, we have to be fast. Seeing my grandmother like that, and from one side so happy, but from the other side i see her eyes what she has been through, and i know that the timeline, the clock is ticking. Qatar and egypt helped negotiate the release, which hamas officials said was humanitarian, and health reasons. It comes just days after hamas had agreed to american women. Was this number of years to dozens being held by hamas in gaza remains unclear. After the weekend, ten americans are now unaccounted for. The Biden Administration is urging israel to delay any Ground Offensive or hostage negotiations continue with a mass. The white house is insisting, it has no interest in dictating israels military operations. These really Defense Forces need to decide for themselves how they will conduct operations, we are not in the business of Dictating Terms for them, certainly not and getting the business here in the white house of previewing any future operations one way or the other. Israels Defense Minister is giving every indication a Ground Nickerson could have been at any moment, seeing the military has been multilateral operation against boston the air ground and sea. For more than two, weeks troops have been amassing on the border with gaza and cnns Nick Robertson reports more than 300,000 soldiers are now waiting for the order to begin the next phase of the soil, and the order could come at any moment. Just outside gaza, Farmers Fields Turn with a controlled fury of a nation ready for an incursion to strike hamas. Battle ready troops with everything they need, except an order to attack. In part, sources tell cnn, because america wants more hostages released first. We want to get the rest of them out, and, that you have to have the ability to continue to negotiate, and to try to work towards that outcome. Israeli officials deny the white house is leaning on them to ease off on attacks. And allow in humanitarian aid. We believe the best way to get the hostages out is to keep the pressure on. Prime minister Benjamin Netanyahus calculus of when to stand in Ground Troops has never been so fraught. He is vulnerable to white house pressure, because israel needs u. S. Weapons and he is under increasing international pressure, over civilian losses in gaza, so much, so it seems to be running down the clock on his plans to smash hamas for its brutal october 7th attacks. I think both in washington, and in jerusalem, they understand that the legitimacy shun window is closing quickly he is also under pressure homeless well, military and others hawkish and eager to begin a decisive ground attack. We are finishing preparing the ground for us, because we have changed plans. We are going to heavy maneuver. Less than a week ago, these fields were teeming with tanks, troops making lastminute repairs, today there are just tracks in the sand. There is a soldiers jacket, here bread, and a back on the table. The question is, where have all the tanks gone . Forward for an incursion . Or back to base for a pause . Close to the front line and gaza these, days more question than answers. International diplomacy it seems, pushing Military Plans off track. The pressure from washington is real. It is real, and it is strong, and the Prime Minister says many times to his ministers listen, we are getting from the United States more than the idf however, Refuting Reports in israeli media of a growing rift between netanyahu, and his military commanders. Nic robertson, cnn, israel. Joining, us Elliott Gotkine is with us now live from london for an update on all of this. Elliott, from a Military Point of, you there is a limit on how long 300,000 troops can remain bodily for major offensive. As alluded to in his report some not the only consideration right now from the Israeli Government . It is, not john. I suppose there are a multitude of reasons as to why is was knock on him, yet and as they were saying, it has been 17 days since the mass went on that murderous rampage on october the 7th. And ever since then, is what we have been expecting, these really military to go. In may has gone in the past for far less. Yet it has not happened yet. We know negotiations to get more hostages released is potentially one reason, israel is also gathering intelligence from hamas militants that it has taken prisoner who entered israel before as well. At the same time, it is giving more time for the air campaign to target inside of the gaza strip, and we are talking yesterday about it being the heaviest bombardment since october the 7th, with more than 370 targets hit, well overnight we have heard from the idf, they say more than 400 targets, things that commandoes, Underground Tunnels Rocket and also Rocket Launches and who like as well. So israel trying to hit more targets to make it as easy as possible for ground ships are going. You know they are carrying a, exercises we know the Chief Of The General Staff has told troops they are going in. We know that the Defense Minister has talked about this is going to be an air, land, and see operation. Yeah it has not happened just yet. I suppose the other big consideration of course, when israel does go, in that hezbollah on the northern border, and already been back and forth with antitank missiles being fired by hezbollah towards, israel is retaliating that has been for the last week or two. Israel doesnt want a Northern Front opened. I had to, this new kind of caution the Prime MinisterBenjamin Netanyahu tends to exercise with major decisions, and all adds up to a delay. Of course at the same time, we had that humanitarian crisis in the gaza strip, we heard from a british Palestinian Surge and saying, the hospital hes working and will turn into a mass grave if electricity runs out. Theyre even had hummus, which of course is launching that Terrorist Attack on october the 7th, runs the gaza strip, it is saying that a power outage in the indonesian hospital is a crime against humanity. I suppose as a tragic irony, there it is a must which of course started this war that is the organization accusing israel of war crimes. But that is the situation right now. Theyre trying to get more aid in. Israel saying the fuel cannot get, in because hummus was pull for it. Indeed senior pfizer to the government was asked if hamas were to release all the remaining 218 or so hostages that it is holding inside the gaza strip, would israel allow fuel to go, in and he said no, it would not. John . Elliott, thank you. Elliott gotkine live for us. According to posting officials, israeli airstrikes in gaza have intensified and lasted for hours, even in the south or at least 28 people were killed. Dozens injured in the city of Rough Agreement hamas accusing officials. Last week israel told millions of people in Northern Gaza to relocate to the south for their own Safety Edwards or warning of the chaos and destruction from unrelenting as early as two x is taking a horrendous toll on because children. One Palestinian Human Rights Group says so far, more than 2000 children have been killed in just over two weeks. A number of which remains almost impossible to verify. But for hospitals in gaza, each day it seems misery, and in level of desperation. Cnns Clarissa Ward reports now, and a warning, the story contains graphic and disturbing images. You are entering the hospital in gaza city. This is just one minute and one day. But doctors tell us, it could be any minute of the last 16 days. It is a scene from many of the patients are young children. The reception area now a triage center. Everywhere you turn, another casualty. Every one of these people has been ordered by israels military to evacuate the hospital, including the staff, already outnumbered and overwhelmed. As the punishing bombardment continues, the wounded keep flooding in. Doctors say, there is nowhere else for them to go. No safe way to transport them out. The mass casualties, once or twice the, day now we have every half an hour, casualties. So it is overloaded. Our emergency department, and our departments overloaded with patients. Doctor warns that the situation is about to get dramatically worse. The hospital he, says is just two days away from running out of fuel needed to power the generators, and keeping the hospital and its patients alive. If you do run out of fuel in two days, what will you do . What can you do . I think the International Community will process of killing our if they dont to allow to get this fuel into gaza, what to do for the people who are in icu and need ventilator . What about . There is a small babies. We have more than 130 an our icu units. What to do with them . Okay it is i think we are allowing them to die. We dont have fuel and in the hospital. Just a trickle of aid has been allowed to cross into gaza, none of it fuel. Blocked by israel, it says over concerns it will be taken by hamas. Hundreds of trucks are waiting along the egyptian side of the border. But diplomatic efforts to establish a continuous humanitarian corridor have failed. There is no more time for debate. Two gaza city now we are joined by doctor british Palestinian Surgeon working at shiva hospital, the biggest medical facility in gaza. Doctor, thank you for speaking with, us we appreciate your time. Thank you. The most urgent need for now and gaza is what is not coming, and that is fuel. The hospital runs on two very big generators, if no fuel arrives, if there are no more supplies coming, in when do those generator stop working . So over the last few days we have been getting increasing the frequent and longer Electricity Cuts and the real question is, is there anything such anything left of the hospital when there is no electricity . My answer is, no, the effectively the hospital will become a mass grave. If it runs out of electricity we have who are ventilating, because of the critical nature of their we cannot run the Anesthetic Machines. Effectively, in the hospital which now has around 1700 wounded patients, three times its capacity will cease to exist as a hospital. So right now the the only Power Station in gaza is out of fuel. So when you say that you have had intermittent power supplies, are you essentially load sharing or going through blackouts or Rolling Blackouts with your own power supply from those generators to try to make it last longer . Yes, i think what is happening is that they are trying to cut down on usage because they have been dependent on the generators for 24 hours. Since the war started. So my feeling is as time passes and fuel supply is less, there are going to be longer and longer outages. Not only do have a lot of people there in the icu and on ventilators because of them being wounded during this conflict with israel, but you also have an unusually high number of pre born children who are basically being incubated right now. How many and what is their status and what happens when the power stops . I mean, the same situation applies to the prenatal units. Schiff has the largest maternity in gaza. I think over 15 incubators will cease to function once electricity is out. So this is essentially, without electricity, there is a countdown to these children dying . Absolutely. Absolutely. Not just the children, the wounded, and the ventilating machines and anyone wounded who needs an Anesthetic Machine for their surgery. Medical supplies of the parts of the three shipments in recent days. No fuel. How would you describe what u. S. Received in those shipments compared to what you actually need . Miniscule. Sending 14 or 15 trucks to two and a quarter million people, to 14,000 wounded, it will not be sufficient to make any tangible difference to the outcome of the treatment. What we need is a continuous humanitarian corridor and the cessation of the bombing, so that we can evacuate to a safe place, so that medical teams from outside can come in and help, and so supplies can be replenished. Otherwise these quantities are just there as a gimmick. I want to ask you something that the Israeli Military told me last week, and that is a mosque, the Militant Group that is running gaza right now and responsible for the conflict with israel, they essentially seized supplies of fuel from a u. N. Compound and the fuel, according to the israelis at least, to run gaza for a week. With that in mind have you received, as your hospital received any extra Fuel Supplies from hamas at any point . If i am not aware that the hospital has been receiving any extra Fuel Supplies, but i understand from the administration that it is what we have is what was in the supplies. But this is also extends to understand now that the gas stations are only giving ambulances access to petrol. And so even the ambulances are saying that, unless they have access to patrol, they will not be able to bring in the wounded. Doctor, thank you so much for being with us. We wish you The Very Best look, clearly this is very difficult time for you and all the staff there at the shifa hospital. Thank you for being with us. Thank you. Still to come here on cnn, the trauma of going home for the first time. When home is where Hamas Terrorists murdered your family. Israel military says multiple hezbollah posts in Southern Lebanon were targeted monday night. Cnn crews in lebanon heard the airstrikes as they happened. The idf says a Military Compound and observation outpost and more were hit in response to rocket and anti tank missiles launched from the area earlier on monday. Hezbollah media reported the strikes occurring in open areas. They also claimed four hezbollah fighters died on monday before the most recent attack. Is a Tiny Community about as close to the border of gaza as it gets, home to 300 people, mostly farmers living in a collective. It was also among the israeli communities attacked by Hamas Terrorists on october 7th. There, Cnns Kaitlan Collins met with one man returning to his childhood home for the First Time Since most of his family were murdered. For many viewers, a warning, this report has disturbing details and graphic images. Kibbutz its less than three miles away from the gaza border. A Quiet Community where president s grow avocados and raise poultry with their families. As the sun rose on saturday, october 7th, the kibbutz that around 300 people called home became the site of a mask or as hamas militants stormed inside and murdered 14 people, kidnapping for others. Major markets chef, a reservist in the israel Defense Forces, watched from home as the brutal attack unfolded that day. Now he is leading a small group of 14 press into the kibbutz for the first time, wanting the world bear witness to the atrocities firsthand. Weve seen the damage and yet it is still hard to absorb. The stench of death is thick in the air as you walk around the tree lined streets, but if you didnt look too closely, youd never guess that a slaughter took place here. Then you noticed the bullet hole in her door. The 90yearold grandmother who loved gardening was in her bathroom when hamas militants shot her in the head. Her blood is still smeared on the entryway two weeks later. If you didnt look over here it would just look like a regular home on a saturday morning. Orange juice out, the newspaper, her mail, some cookies. When you look over here at the kitchen you can see people have gone through it, opened all the cabinets. There are still cups in the sink. Her cattle is still out. And gina is one of several who is brutally murdered in her kibbutz on that saturday morning. The zach family lived just down the street. Parents tie, eddie, and their 14yearold son were at home when the attack began. Their older children were away. We reached 24yearold hadar on face time. What is through there, what was through that window . This is the first time he is able to see the charred remains of his familys home. He told me that they opened the and they found my dad laying on the ground with my dog, watching the doors of the terrorists wont come. In the bodies of his mother and Little Brother or founded niche other in the nearby bomb shelter after they effects yated when the militants had their home on fire. Just days before, soggy was dancing his heart out in a bruno mars concert in tel aviv. Im 24. We have ten years between us. Its hard, he was my child. A dark and his sister are now orphans. His grief and his anger are palpable. It is kind of absurd to me that and not someone from israel. I love my kibbutz, it is amazing, but the government. I have no words to describe. Just 24 hours later, in the area, an idea of a soldier is killed and three others wounded during a raid ahead of israels expected Ground Invasion in gaza. An ominous warning shot of what is yet to come. Still ahead here on cnn how israels potential gown to incursion against hamas might impact the political situation in an already tense region. They also say it is likely that he may meet with Palestinian Authority president. The dutch Prime Minister has also visited the region and met with both israeli and palestinian leaders. He says that he urged netanyahu to show restraint when using force in gaza and spoke with him about the cycle of violence unleashed by the Militant Group, hamas. Weve been following the story of cnn journalist ibrahim lives in gaza, after leaving the north and traveling south for a safety, ibrahim and his family are hoping to escape gaza through the Rafah Crossing with egypt. Now it seems those open have been dashed, hes now struck with his wife and two young sums, just 11 in seven years old. Heres the latest from ibrahim. Many of found shelter at a Greek Orthodox church, the oldest and gaza, but the Church Compound was hit by an israeli airstrike last week and cnns Jomana Karadsheh as a story. A warning, again, her report contains some graphic content. This is a war on hamas, israel says, but it is the people of gaza who are paying the heaviest price. No place safe, no place spared israels wrath. Danger looms around every corner of this besieged land. Every day, every minute spent in fear of when death may strike. Many now write their childrens names on their legs so if they are killed their little ones are not just a number. Israel says it doesnt target civilians, it is hamas they say who is using them as human shields. They try to avoid civilian casualties, they say, but the numbers and pictures tell a different story, in a place where it is the innocent who are the majority. Hospitals, schools, mosques have been bombed. On friday, gazans absorbing another horror, one that hit their tiny Christian Community. Airstrike on a building at the compound of the st. Porphyrius Greek Orthodox church, one of the oldest churches in the world, where hundreds have sought refuge from the relentless bombardment. This was no sanctuary. A scene of chaos at this house of worship, with no power. They use their phones to light up the rubble and that parties. So i was out of the carnage. The Gut Wrenching grief of a father, mourning his children, and a grandmother, her little george. With no prior warning, the bomb civilians in the church. They killed my cousins and three childrens. My whole cousins family was wiped. Israeli military says the air strike was targeting hamas controlled command and center nearby. They said this was not the intention, but they call collateral damage. 17 christians, and tar families including infants perished in the strike, 26yearold was killed along with her husband and baby girl. Her history, her husband, and children also gone. Unbelievable. Unbelievable we are here 2000 years, and we are not going to live. We will stay here, we will continue our life. As all the population in gaza. So much grief, so much anger at the silence over there suffering, and those who wont stop the bloodshed. This is the message to the war, and specifically this messages to biden. President of the United States, he should know that the Christian Community in gaza are being targeted. No one is safe here in gaza. Everybody is in danger. Shell shock survivors, christians and muslims sat around the church this weekend. They are seemingly nowhere left to run. Russias Foreign Minister says the world needs to Work Together to find a solution to the crisis in the middle east, even if that means the United States has to sit down at the table with russia and iran. They say gaza came out and made those remarks in tehran, came up to a discussion about the breakaway region in azerbaijan. He says russia rejects all terrorism and violations of International Humanitarian law. The quote, including the increased permanent use of force. It comes as moscow continues to wage an 18th month old war in ukraine which has no sign of an end. Cnns Patrick Oppmann is our man in havana. We are at a solitary reality that the government is holding to show support for palestinians and to criticize israels war on hamas. There are hundreds of people here, many of them School Aged Children whove come directly from class. Palestinians, some of them are medical students who are studying to become doctors when the war broke out. Cubas position on this latest conflict is unequivocal. Cuba for years are supported palestinians right to form a state and the cuban government does not have diplomatic relations with israel. Cuba blames the u. S. And israel for this latest outbreak of violence. Cubans State Run Media have paid little attention to what hamas has done to civilians in the attack on israel. The cuban government released with statement at the beginning of the conflict saying that there should be an immediate cease fire, but over the past several days, as casualties mounted, the cuban government has taken a harder position. On monday, the cuban president posted on the social media that what israel is doing in the gaza strip is tantamount to genocide. Patrick oppmann, cnn, havana. The conflict in gaza seems to have erupted in the franchise in the middle east. It all began when mcdonalds in israel gave thousands of free meals to israeli forces. This angered forces in kuwait, and other countries, issuing a statement saying they have nothing to do with israeli franchise. They also made donations to support palestinians in gaza. Mcdonalds headquarters told cnn it is now prioritizing the safety of its franchisees and offering them support. With that will take a short break. In a moment for, youre watching cnn. Live now to tel aviv. For more on the Israeli Ground offensive in gaza and what happens next for joined by the Senior Research at the center for at tel aviv university. Thank you for being with us. Hello, john. So right now it seems no one really knows precisely what happens in gaza the day after tomorrow. Once israel decides its Mission Accomplished and hamas is gone, the infrastructure is gone, then what . Who feels that void . As anybody actually thought about this . Yeah, of course they did. Actually, israel has its own court to deal with such issues. But, you know, war is the kingdom of uncertainty. However what i predict is that israel will have to control militarily the occupied area of the gaza strip and it will take some time to clear it up from the Hamas Terrorists. I assume that, after the situation will be stabilized, israel will keep a certain garrison there and, throughout this period, we are talking mainly about International Organizations such as the red cross and the u. N. Organization that will play a key role in providing the population with its crucial needs. At the second phase, john, however, i believe the 30,000 Palestinian Authority employees that are in the gaza strip will take the major role of running the population, but will still need to build something out of scratch, although i know that israel is working on those plans. In the long run, however, a much more substantial for process. The gaza strip will need to undergo fundamental processes in terms of education, just like, im sorry to use this metaphor but i cannot think of anything else, just like germany, for example, after the second world war. Mainly processes of de hamass asian, when we are talking about a population over the past 17 years, two generations almost, where thinking about in a very dehumanizing way. And not just because they were born this way, but because they were in doctrine eyes this way. So i think israel, not just israel, other partners that will probably participate, will have to do a very, very fundamental work in routing this out. All of those horrible summer camps of hamas and to create something new, something healthy. During a visit to southern israel last week, the Israeli Defense minister met with troops not far from the border with gaza. This is what he said. Translator there is no forgiveness for this day. Only Total Annihilation of hamas organization, terror infrastructures, everything that has to do with terrorists and whoever sent them. It will take a week, it will take a month, it will take two months into eliminate them. How much of the future of gaza will be determined by how that Offensive Plays out . Just in terms of leaving behind some kind of a civil infrastructure in place to govern and could you see gaza becoming like a Demilitarized Zone . Eventually, the simple answer is that we do not have any other option. We have to demilitarize it, we will have to deal with the grill that well pop every now and then. Like the japanese soldier in the forest who hasnt heard about the end of the war. But that will be the case and i think the population is going through, of course, not an easy time. Like we in israel, we suffered immense, and i think it is reflected in the speech that we just heard. However, i am really positive in terms of the wider picture of what such a change can do to the relations of israel and palestine as a whole. And the region has a whole. Its not just a local thing, it is really the iranian access against the global last, american access. With that in mind, here is the German Foreign minister talking with the future and what needs to be done. Listen to this. Translator we need a path for tomorrow. This means thinking about it now, how security and gaza and peace in the region can be secured together with international actors. The European Union and for germany it is clear that israelis and palestinians can only live in peace and security in the long term. Free of terrorism and free from Human Tragedy with a twoState Solution. So, once a mosque is no longer part of the picture, would israelis be more willing to return to some kind of political solution with the palestinians or does that remain on the table for the foreseeable future . For the darkest moment, could there be hope of some kind of long term peace . Absolutely, john. Period. Absolutely. And i will tell you why. People dont remember anymore, but in the mid 90s most of the israelis, Something Like 63 to 68 supported the idea of a twoState Solution, including your humble servant. However, the Suicide Bombing that began in 1993 and prolonged for the whole 90s and early 2000s ruined that trust in the two State Solution. It was always, always a Security Question for us, israelis, and not anything else. Of course, we have the settlement project, but we need to keep in mind the settlers are just a few hundreds of thousands out of a 10 million population. So, if you take out, if you remove the most negative player in this play and you leave it with just two moderate players as the Palestinian Authority and israel, and of course you heal everything that needs to be healed because it is not perfect there, as well. By the, way by both sides, not just with the Palestinian Authority, also in israel. You know, it has been a while. I think it will create a much more positive atmosphere for advancing to this two State Solution which, at the end of the day, i dont see any other viable solution. With that i will jump in and say thank you, the humble servant. Thank you for watching, im john vause. Cnn newsroom continues with Rosemary Church after a short break. See you in a moment.
