Hello and welcome to our viewers joining us in the United States and around the world. Im bianca nobilo. And im Max Foster Joining you from london. And im Becky Anderson in tel aviv with our continuing coverage of israel at war. The hamas controlled ministry of Health Reports 471 people have been killed in tuesdays horrific Hospital Blast in gaza city. And the United States now echoing israels claim that the explosion was the result of an errant rocket fired by the palestinian iz slamic jihad. New video appears to show a Rocket Exploding high above gaza city just before the blast at that hospital. And on the ground this was the moment of the explosion outside the hospital. Cnn has not determined if these events are related. President biden says he believes u. S. Intelligence. I dont say things like that unless i have faith in the source in which ive gotten, people at the Defense Department who i respect and the Intelligent Community that i respect. It is highly probable israel did that. Islamic jihad denies israels assertions as false and baseless and arab countries have almost universally blamed israel for the blast. Alex marquardt has more on why the u. S. Says it doesnt look like israel is responsible for that deadly blast at the gaza hospital. Reporter The Explosion Rocked Northern Sgaz Gaza and l the sky. Angle appears to show the blast tennessee hospital. Cnn has not determined definitively that the rocket and explosion are related but in tel aviv today President Biden said u. S. Intelligence matches israels version of what happened. Based on the information weve seen today, it appears the result of an errant rocket fired by a Terrorist Group in gaza. Reporter he didnt name the group but israel says it is islamic jihad. The american assessment less than 24 hours after the Deadly Strike was based on what the white house now says is intelligence, Missile Activity and open source video and images of the incident. The statement adding that some Palestinian Militants in gaza themselves believe it was carried out by islamic jihad. The u. S. Now to weigh in and the u. S. President to weigh in on this, this does strongly suggest this was likely not the israelis. Reporter Israeli Military published recordings can claims are Audio Intercepts of hamas militants acknowledging the rocket came from inside gaza. [ speaking in a nonenglish language ] cnn cannot independently verify them. It is part of a vigorous effort to prove it wasnt their rocket arguing the damage from the strike was far lighter than the bombs they usually drop from the air. Assaults that have left buildings across gaza flattened and huge craters in the ground. At the hospital today, charred vehicles littered the parking lot which is pot marked and has a small crater. Sources tell cnn that israel shared its intelligence with the u. S. And taken together the u. S. Now believes that the body of evidence paints a solid picture. You have to piece it together with other sources of information not just from that ally. Because that may be biased. Reporter but the public outcry and blame of israel were swift and fierce. Bidens summit in jordan with arab leaders was canceled as crowds in the streets grew. I can understand in this circumstance they wouldnt believe. I can understand that. But i would not you know i dont say things like that unless i have faith in the source. Reporter the theory now threatening to deepen the crisis. Even before israel launches a possible invasion of gaza. That wasle Alex Marquardt reporting there. Lets bring in the president of the Palestinian National initiative and member of the Palestinian Parriment joining me now from ramallah. It is good to have you, sir. We are Hearing Reports that the idf has conducted raids in the west bank and arrested several perhaps even hundreds of palestinians. I do with you want to concentrate on what you can tell us about what is happening there, what you are seeing on the ground, sir. There is a massive israeli operation to arrest palestinians. Our information is that no less than 700 palestinians, additional palestinians, have been arrested during the last ten days. And every night they are conducting more and more arrests. The number of Palestinian Prisoners now in israel is up to 6300, including no less than 1500 of people who are in jail without knowing why. They are not charged. They are not taken to court. There is no legal process. And they call it detention. And no less than 200 children now in israeli jails. In addition to that, what we face here, is settler terror. Settlers are attacking communities and villages. So far 20 palestinian communities have been evicted from their homes baezy Israeli Settlers and protected by the israeli army. And like what happened in a village in the north where settlers attached the village, killed three people, and the army came and killed a fourth person. And next day during the funeral of these four people, the settlers attacked and killed a father and his son. And we were reporting on that story and we met a family who were leaving their home because they felt they simply couldnt stay, a home that was originally attacked at the heart of that incident. Sir, we were told by the mayor of the village that the violence against settlers, this ongoing violence, the violence against the palestinian residents by settlers, sorry, is ongoing violence, is driving young palestinians he said towards combat. He said that they would rather die in combat than be humiliated and killed in their homes. We are seeing escalating violence in the he west bank. How concerned are you . Very much so. 50 of palestinians in gaza are children and about 78 of the palestinians in the west bank are young people and children. And of course these people have no hope. What they see is continuousing a xw aggression on them, they see their people being killed, they see israel is not subjected to any form of accountability. And especially now, especially now with this western support to israel. Israel feels completely impune difference to International Law and encouraging the settlers. One of the main reasons why this whole situation exploded in gaza was that because before the war started in gaza, no less than 248 palestinians were killed would by settlers and the army. And 40 were children. More than that settlers tried to fight in whole town, they threatened people, they burned cars, acts of terror. But the most important thing is there is no accountability. And we know that hamas used these incidents to embolden and justify their own actions. Nobody of course accepting in any way what hamas did against the israeli population on october 7. If fuels their propaganda in what it is that they are able to do under the banner of supporting palestinians of course with that we know israels aim is to dismantle has mass in the gaza strip. And ive heard you say time and time again hamas does not represent the Palestinian People. If israel succeeds in, quote, annihilating hamas, what comes n next, what is the end game here . I dont think this is the israel plan. Israel is not attacking hamas only. Israel is attacking the whole population of gaza. They are annihilating the population of the north and the center of the gaza at this moment. 3472 palestinians have been killed so far including no less than 1300 children. And in my opinion israeli original plan was to ethnically cleanse all of gaza, force people out of Gaza To Egypt and then to annex gaza. Netanyahu did not hide that. He showed the world the man of the israel and United Nations which included all of the west bank and all of gaza. And if he had succeeded in ethnically cleanse gaza, he would move to the west bank and try Toteethnically Cleanse it t. That is what jordan and egypt understood. Now that egypt stood against this plan, he is moving to plan b which is econvicting and et if i cannily cleansing the fort and center of gaza. That is what is happening now today. 1. 1 Million People have been forced out of their homes. 76,000 houses have already been destroyed by israeli airstrikes. Israel says that they have the right to respond. Okay, they responded. 3 3472 2700 palestinians have been killed. How many more should be killed . I think the immediate need now, becky for the sake of palestinians and israelis is ceasefire. We need immediate ceasefire to stop this atrocity, this collective punishment, also for the sake of israeli prisoners which Netanyahu Bombards and kills. Already 22 and that is a conversation that the conversation about a ceasefire is one we know is going on behind the scenes on these diplomatic tracks. We know that qatar is mediating on trying to get the release of these hostages say they need a temporary ceasefire at least in order to effect some movement on that. It seems that israel is resistant to that temporary ceasefire. Is there any one country at this point, any single individual or country who can be the voice of reason now do you believe between all parties . I dont know if there is a person that can be accepted as a immediate mediator between all parties. I think one person who could stop all these atrocities immediately is President Biden. But to do that, he has to stop saying that he is teaming up with the israelis and calls them our team. He cannot be on the team of one side while would be side is committing war crimes against the other. He has to be he has to take a different position and that is why i think that the United StatesMust Immediately change its position and allow passage for resolution in the Security Council to have immediate ceasefire. There is one country in the world that has leverage over israel and can stop these atrocities for the sake of palestinians and israelis and that is the United States of america. It is good to have you joining us today from ramallah in the west bank where sadly we have seen significant uptick in violence there, demonstrations on the streets in support of the Palestinian People. Reminding the world that the plight of the Palestinian People should not be overlooked. There is a glimmer of hope in gaza, desperately needed humanitarian aid could start coming in. Israel said it will allow some aid to come from egypt following yesterdays trip by u. S. President bidens tel aviv. Egypt promised to allow at least 20 aid trucks to cross the border according to mr. Biden. Aid has been piling up in egypt as we know for days, but it has been unable to get into gaza through that Border Crossing. This is where International Aid should be flowing in to gaza. But it has been eerily quiet. Vital Life Sustaining humanitarian aid is being piling up, stuck in no mans land on the wrong side of the border while agencies sound the alarm on an accelerating humanitarian crisis. Now there are signs of a breakthrough. On wednesday, hours after a deadly blast at a hospital in gaza, u. S. President biden landed on his wartime visit to israel. Hours later he delivered these remarks. I asks israeli cabinets that i met with for some time this morning to agree to the delivery of lifesaving humanitarian assistance to civilians in gaza based on the understanding that there will be inspections and that the aid should go to civilians, not to hamas. Israel agreed humanitarian assistance can begin to move from egypt to gaza. Reporter but in a Statement Wednesday israel said it wont allow any aid into gaza from its own territory until all hostages held by hamas are released. Following the announcement, i asked the Jordanian Foreign minister for his reaction. Were all working for a ceasefire that would allow for delivery of humanitarian supplies to gaza. And so talk of ceasefire is continuing, talk of allowing supplies is continuing, talk of decision to end the war is continuing. Any step in that direction is definitely a welcome step. Reporter President Biden now says he is working with the u. N. To get aid trucks moving as quickly as possible. But even when that flow can begin, the route is badly damaged by israeli airstrikes. Currently there is a miles long convoy of humanitarian assistan assistance with the trucks on the side of the road awaiting the possibility of entering gaza. The Rafah Crossing Over the last days has been bombed four times. There is a lot of infrastructure that has been destroyed. Obviously the lack of fuel, lack of water, the lack of food is going to compound the swituatio. Difficulties with moving around to security but also just blockages from rubble, et cetera and unexploded munitions. Reporter for gaza citizens, the deadly waiting game means life lines are fast running out. The Palestinian HealthMinistry Says hospitals are collapsing without fuel. And the World Food Program warns that shops in gaza will run out of food in mere days. Translator there is no water. There is no water at all. Medicines for children, food, drinking, there are no supplies at all in the gaza strip. It is not just me. All of the gaza strip is suffering. All of the families in gaza are suffering. A day after u. S. President joe biden visited israel, rishi sunak is the latest western ally to travel to israel to show support. The Prime Minister expected to meet with both the president and Prime Minister of israel according to his official x account. He hopes to meet with leaders of the wider region during his visit. Well, rather than a chaotic rampage, hamas killers were carrying out a detailed plan. Maps and other materials found on dead hamas fighters show the kirls in israel knew exactly where to go. In shocking detail. Cnn investigates that coming up. Hamas video, maps and documents obtained by cnn are revealing just how much hamas kill ers knew beforehand. The material includes detailed attack plans, specific information with security in homes and even the best places to hold hostages. We caution you some of the images are graphic. Matthew chance shows us the chil chilling evidence. Reporter cnn has gathered chilling new insights and details on the hamas assault inside israel. Including disturbing video taken by the attackers themselves as they rampaged through israeli homes killing on sight. And then being killed. Searches of their dead bodies revealing a trove of battle plans including these detailed maps shared with cnn by the Israeli Government showing communities near gaza that were targeted by the attackers. These were the terrifying scenes inside. The Hamas Gun Men recorded themselves moving freely through the gardens of israeli homes. Code red, code red the israeli loud speaker blares in hebrew. After the attack the israeli First RespondersSaw Bullet Holes and blood stains in room after room in what looks like a coldly methodical killing spree. But while hundreds of israelis were killed, some israeli communities managed to repel the hamas gunmen and save lives. A kibbutz residents pushed back the attack and found documents on the bodies of the militants they killed with disturbing highly accurate intelligence on their homes including precise numbers of armed guards there, Regional Defense force at least 20 residents one document reads. And ten soldiers. They knew basically the size of our security team, they knew about other three or four entrances to the kibbutz. Sounds like they knew everything. They knew everything. Where the generators are. They knew where the armory is. They knew at least roads around the kibbutz. Reporter Security Footage shows how hamas gunmen killed an Israelihe Kibbutz gates before being repelled. Not every hamas objective was achieved. A nearby kibbutz wasnt enattacked but we now have Documentary Evidence that hamas intended to inflict the maximum possible Human Casualties there and to hold hostages. Highly detailed street map found on another hamas gunman and obtained by cnn shows individual buildings inside identified and assessed for their military value. The communal kitchen, for example, is described as the main place suitable for holding hostages. Inside the guard room, soldiers must be neutralized, the hamas instructions say. While the kibbutz Dental Clinic is designated a place for first aid for both enemies and friends. Israeli residents say they also found the level of detail astounding. Shockingly the details are very accurate. The map is a map of our kibbutz. Horribly accurate. Good they had come to your settlement, they would have known exactly where to go, exactly where to cause the most damage. Yes, and we now see that their goal was to take hostages including children. Reporter israeli Officials Say they found other documents too that Advise Attackers to kill anyone posing a threat or causing a distraction, to keep captives away from arms or means of suicide. And to use them as cannon fodder. It is a dark turn. Even for a group seen here parading before the attacks that has come to symbolize the uncompromising face of Palestinian Resistance and violence against israel. Israeli Officials Say a document referencing isis and al qaeda which cnn has not been able to authenticate was found on one hamas gunman killed during this attack. The document given to cnn by a senior Israeli Government official praises jihad against jews and crusaders. Israeli Officials Say that is evidence hamas is increasingly influenced by global jihadi ideology, an assessment many experts have dismissed. But in the wake of the unprecedented brutality of the attacks, u. S. Officials tell cnn the hamas threat may now be reassessed. Matthew chance, cnn, israel. Still ahead, the deadly Hospital Blast in gaza trirgs International Outrage despite u. S. Intelligence assessing that israel was not responsible. Well show you the protests after the break. Andist President Biden planning to deliver a Primetime Address in the hours ahead following his return from high stakes visit to israel. Two Officials Say he plans to make the case for the u. S. To keep funding wars in ukraine and in israel. Mr. Biden held a phone call with egypts president who has agreed to open the Rafah Crossing Into Gaza to allow in humanitarian aid. The u. S. President says up to 20 trucks are expected to cross the border possibly on friday. And Idf Spokesperson says there has been significant escalation with hezbollah. Earlier they said that they were striking hezbollah targets in lebanon. Australia and canada are joining the list of warnings of travel to israel. And all across the region people are venting their anger. Jomana karedsheh has more details in this report which includes some graphic and disturbing images. Reporter from the west bank to baghdad, they from tunisia, amman and other city, thousands took to the treat streets to say enough is enough. Images out of gazas Baptist Hospital were too much to bear. A place of healing, a place to shelter was no sanctuary for those trapped in this hell on earth. Palestinian Officials Say it was an israeli strike to blame for the catastrophic loss of life. Israel strongly denied the accusation and said the blast was caused by failed rockets failed by islamic jihad. Israels statements rang hollow for those Watching Bombs Rain Down On Gaza and its civilian casualties rising day after day. Israels friends and goes across the region swiftly condemned what they say was a massacre, a war crime. Jordan one of americas closest allies in the region, a country home to millions of palestinians, canceled a summit of arab leaders with the u. S. President it was hosting on wednesday. As thousands poured into the streets and Security Forces used tear gas to push back the protestors who tried to reach the Israeli Embassy in amman, the rage also directed at the u. S. Protestors waved their shoes in the air for President Biden they said as they chanted americans get out. Jordans crown prince posting this instagram story, israel is spond responsible for this, quote, massacre. The Western World can no longer claim morality if they continue these double standards he wrote. For days Jordans King Abdullah has been warning the situation in the region may soon get out of control. The whole region is at the brink of falling into the abyss that this new cycle of death and destruction is pushing us towards. The theft the War Expanding is real. The cost this will bring on all of us is too much to bear. Reporter and that threat is getting more real by the day as iran and its proxies who span iraq, syria and lebanon signaling they will not sit back if the bloodshed persists. Every painful scene out of gaza is making it hartder to continue the anger, pushing the middle east closer and closer to the brink. Jomana karedsheh, cnn, london. As she reported, countries around the region were quick to condemn the gaza Hospital Blast. Many blaming israel. Joining me now from dubai is our middle east correspondent for the economist, also author of how long will israel survive, the threat from within. And well perhaps talk about that book. You know, while were talking, let me get your your assessmen you are seeing on ground and joe bidens Trip Yesterday. I think the Trip Yesterday juxtaposed with what were seeing on the ground, it shows you the discontent that exists the disconnect between Manner Policy and what is happening in gaza. There were split screens that were looping on the arab world. On one side of the screen you had scenes of the devastation and then on the other side you had the president in his Motorcade Heading to Andrews Air Force base preparing to take off on a show of solidarity to israel which then turned out to be only a trip to israel because the planned summit in jordan was canceled. So really the perception in the region was that the president was taking sides, that he was entirely siding with israel and ignoring the palestinian suffering in gaza. Let me just play for you and our viewers part of what joe biden said on the flight home to reporters. Have a listen. Justice must be done. But i caution this while you feel that rage, dont be consumed by it. After 9 11, we were engaged in the United States. While we sought justice and got justice, we also made mistakes. He said this both in tel aviv, my apology, and on the flight home. No Call Specific call for restraint there. No use of the word. But as close to as weve heard from the u. S. President. What does what could he do next at this point . We know there are big calls behind the scenes for a ceasefire for example. We didnt hear any words of ceasefire or calming or deescalation from the american president , but we know behind the scenes that there is a real push for at least a temporary ceasefire at this point. Is that role that the u. S. President can help sort of, you know, perpetuate at the moment or get out there . There was never going to be a public call for the ceasefire because i think the mood is such in israel right now that there would be no pin support for that. No one would be willing to hear it. So in public President Biden was just trying to show solidarity with israel. Behind closed doors, the message was a bit tougher, the message he delivered to netanyahu and other israeli officials. One part of it was about the need for humanitarian access into gaza. Weve seen a bit of progress on that with the reports as the president was leaving that israel had consented to allow aid to travel in via egypt, but it will stop blocking aid via egypt. So a bit of progress on that. The other question that biden was asking israeli officials was what is the plan for the day after. As you start this war, as you go in for what seems like a long Ground Offensive in gaza, what are you planning do afterwards. Who is going to control gaza, how long will you stay. Is there going to be a full reoccupation of the territory. And he didnt get an answer on that. And my colleagues and i have been speaking to israeli officials the past two weeks and they havent given us answers either because they dont have an answer yet. They dont know what the Long Term Strategy is here in gaza. And so i think that clip that you played, those public remarks about americas own post9 11 mistakes, biden obviously trying to signal to the israeli leadership it is very easy to get into a war, very hard to find a way out. Interesting. Reflects what perhaps is going on behind the scenes as you are clearly gathering. That what happens next is obviously hugely important as we await to see what the next phase of this war will look like as far as the israelis are concerned and the price of course that will be paid. Meantime in the very, very short term, this aid movement through the rafah Border Crossing is clearly important. And when asked, the u. S. President said that he had got the job done, he got israel and egypt to agree to opening the border to allow in some 20 trucks worth of aid, which is nothing like what is needed, but it is a good first step. Weve spoken to the u. N. Agency on the ground in the south close to the Rafah Border Today who say that they are still hearing and feeling shelling from the israelis. Just how important is it at the moment that the israelis ensure safe passage of that humanitarian aid . It is critically important. This is the first aid that would be reaching gaza in almost two weeks, it has been under a complete siege. Supplies of everything from food to water to fuel, medicine, have been running out. As you say it is only a start. In talking to u. N. Officials, they say gaza needs about 100 trucks a day worth of aid at this point. What has been agreed is only 20. So it is a small fraction of the demand in gaza. And then there are also questions about even if this aid manages to get in, if there is no more bombardment of the raf if a and i go cr rafah crossi, how it will get in. They were told to flee to the south and weve heard about 600,000 people have done that, but that means another half a Million People might still be in this morning gaza either because they cant leave or they dont want to leave. This aid is going to come into the south and some of it has to get to the north where hundreds of thousands of people still are. So the amount is inaud yacht and there is a huge logistical challenge around trying to get the food, water, medicine to where it is needed inside of gaza. As you look at what is going on in the west bank to the north of where i am, to northern israel, the border with lebanon and beyond, how do you assess, how difficult are things becoming and how concerned do you think that people should genuinely be about an escalation in this conflict . The northern border, it has been escalating but everything that has happened there so far is still within what people call the Rules Of Engagement between israel and hezbollah. On the lebanese side, it has been calibrated to try to avoid a fullscale war. So i think whether that border turns in to a second front, we have to wait and see what happens after israr israel begi Ground Invasion which is what iran and hezbollah have described as their red line. The west bank is actually a bigger short term concern. Tensions there were already boiling because of the policies of the far right government of israel the past year. There have been dozens of palestinians killed in the past two weeks but also the deadliest year on record in the occupied west bank and so i think there is a real concern there that the Palestinian Authority which was already losing its grip on parts of the territory may suffer a very serious blow to its ability to keep governing.
