This is cnn Breaking News hello and welcome. Coming to you live from the studio, at the cnn studio in atlanta. I am michael holmes. We continue our breaking News Coverage of israel and war. And we begin with a Major Development in that Israel Hamas War. The u. N. Says israel is ordering more than 1 million palestinians and Northern Gaza to move to the south, the u. N. Said it was called within the next 24 hours, and several of those arrows have already passed. A u. N. Spokesperson calls the request impossible, saying that it could turn an already tragic situation into a calamity. It is likely the clearest sign yet israel planning to intensify its Military Operations and gaza, following hamas Attack On Israel. That killed at least 1200 people. Tens of thousands of israeli troops, tanks, and other Military Equipment now gathered along the gaza border, meanwhile the aerial and artillery assault on gaza shows no sign of waking up as air israel says it has destroyed hamas tunnels, weapons caches, rocket launches, and storage facilities. But there is enormous and worsening suffering for the civilians in gaza. Palestinian Health Ministry there says more than 1500 people have now been killed by israeli airstrikes and shelling. And without power, or water, or fuel, the alps care system is on the brink of collapse. The u. S. Secretary of state, anthony blinken, is in jordan right now. Making scheduled in qatar, saudi arabia, and the united arab emirates. On thursday he met with Prime Minister netanyahu. Encountered a nation that together by grief, but also a nation united and resolve. The United States shares that resolve. We stand shoulder to shoulder with the people of israel. All right, lets go live to london now. Where journalist Elliott Gotkine is following developments for us. What is this with the u. N. Being told it needs to move more than 1 Million People from the north of gaza, to the south. What does that suggest of what is to come and how on earth can such a move take place in what is now, about what, 17 to 18 hours from now . I think its the clear is a indication yet that israel plans to ramp up its attacks on hamas targets around the gaza strip. And possibly, this is the next step towards this expected Ground Invasion that we have been talking about for the past few days. In terms of what has is happened in gaza. This war has been give by the israelis to the United Nations. Just for five eastern time, what israel was saying is that the statement says. Civilians of gaza city, evacuate south for the year old safety, and the safety of your families. And distance yourself from Hamas Terrorists that are using you as a human shield. This area north of gaza, which the u. N. Says accounts for about 1. 1 Million People. Thats about half the entire population of the gaza strip. So its about roughly ten kilometers south from the northern tip of the gaza strip. Though it does very. And what the United Nations is saying, what the media response was, was that it was impossible to move that many people south without in its words, devastating humanitarian consequences. Now the u. N. s palestinian and Refugee Agency has really moved its Central Operations and staff to the south, hamas, while the Gaza Media Office which of course is controlled by hamas, which controls the gaza strip, putting out a statement after israels warning. Saying the palestinians, dont fall for what it described as false propaganda. And also said that it was just part of psychological warfare on the part of israel. Its now the u. N. Secretary general, antonio gutierrez, has asked for a qualification. Israels envoy tonight for a nation says in his words, it is shameful. Michael . Yes, and were getting some clarification for the parent lake. Calling on all civilians of gaza city, specifically to evacuate southward on friday. Which is today. It is an extraordinary demand. Im just failing to see how it isnt any way possible to move 1 Million People south in that period of time, with bombardment ongoing . And a lot of the roads and infrastructure damaged . Clearly, its not going to be easy. The United Nations has just said, as we just said, that it is impossible without devastating humanitarian consequences. What israel wants to do is minimize Civilian Casualties from bombing, or a Ground Incursion which is likely to come, if it does, from the north. We dont know for sure that it is going to happen. We expect it to happen. And we obviously do not know precisely when and where israel would go in. But by clearing that northern part of the gaza strip. If it is able to do so. And if the palestinian, the Civilian Palestinian Population pays heed to the warning. This will make the job that much easier. But from a military perspective, and also of course in the information war, in terms of the optics. By minimizing Civilian Casualties. But theyve seen hundreds of thousands of palestinians moving south. All their wealth and possessions to get out of harm s way. Its not gonna be a particularly good luck from israels perspective either. But it feels that this is something that it has to do. And given the gravity of the situation, and the brutality of hamas Attack On Israel in the early hours of saturday morning. I think this time around, certainly compared with previous, wars with hamas and militants in the governors trip, israel is less concerned about the optics of what it is doing and very much more focused on the Military Operation and freeing those up to 150 hostages that hamas took from israel inside of the gaza strip. Michael . Elliott gotkine, in london thank you so much. Appreciate it. With israel facing growing criticism for an attempted in of a half dozen Training Camps in gaza after locations were reported by cnn. According to reporting, at least six of the sites were within two kilometers of the most heavily pro Trolled Section of the border with Clarissa Ward with details. Propaganda videos put out by hamas, reveal chilling details about the years of preparations that went into saturdays bloody attacks, right under israels nose. Analyzing better data from the videos, a scene an investigation can reveal the presence of at least six Training Sites inside of gaza, one just 720 meters from the most heavily fortified and patrolled part of israels border, in that camp how must recreated a israeli compound with elements of the nearby border crossing. Including any sigma of the areas battalion. They even show they practice taking prisoners, zip tying their hands at the camp. Satellite injury indicates the camp was constructed in the last year and a half. And to other locations in the southern part of gaza, hamas trained for their audacious terrorists all the scent. It all has two years of satellite imagery, reviewed by cnn, shows no indication of offensive Israeli Military action. It instead shows that in the last two years, some camp even expanded to surrounding farmland. And that there was activity in the last several months of the camps. The stunning revelations raise questions as to how hamas was able to train so openly, so close to the border for so long. And why israeli officials were unable to pick on, and prevent the october 7th attack. Clarissa ward, cnn. Quick break here on the program, when we come back, cnn visits the front line in southern israel, as Tens Of Thousands of troops prepare for the next phase of the campaign against hamas. Welcome back, the Israeli Defense forces are urging all civilians in Northern Gaza, including the heavy populated gaza city to evacuate southwards for their own safety. The idf says they will announce when it is safe for civilians to return. Israels military alleges quote, the Hamas Terrorists are housing in gaza city. Inside tunnels, underneath houses, inside buildings. Populated with innocent gaza facility ends. The United Nations warns the evacuation of what would be more than 1 Million People on a short notice like that could have devastating humanitarian consequences. Gaza of course is already gripped by a crisis that is worsening by the hour. Relief groups say there is an urgent need for humanitarian corridors, so it can reach civilians. Israels Siege Of Gaza has cut off access to food, water, electricity, and medical supplies. Hospitals are overwhelmed. The palestinian military of health says as israeli air strike has killed 1500 people, and wounded over 6000. Israel has been pounding the enclave with airstrikes and shelling, and response to last weekends hamas attack. Which israel says killed more than 1200 people. The white house, meanwhile, says it has no plans to put u. S. Troops on the ground in the region. Ahead of unexpected Military Incursion into gaza. Cnns Nick Robertson reports on preparations. Israels newly emerging frontline in the war with hamas, have a howitzers just again. Firing on the terror group a few miles away in gaza. Part of israels massive Military Buildup since hamass attacks saturday. Many of the 300,000 reservists called up already deployed ahead of a highly anticipated ground pensive into gaza. These are exactly the same gun positions the Israeli Defense forces used in their last major confrontation with hamas back in 2021. The question now, will this confrontation be different . Will israel actually be able to crush hamas . The Prime Minister says he wants to do. Military offensives have beaten them before, but it wont be easy now. The Palestinian Death toll in unintended consequence of israeli shelling and missile strikes is climbing. Thursday, staunch ally the u. S. Cautioning care. The Prime Minister and i discussed. How israel does, this matters. We democracies distinguish ourselves from terrorist by striving for a different standard, even when its difficult. And it will be difficult. Israel is still reeling from the deadliest, most barbaric attack on its citizens since the state was founded. Anger at hamass high, so to, pressure on the Prime Minister to act decisively. Calling for more International Support as he plans for his offensive. Hamas should be treated exactly the way i. S. I. S. Was treated. They should be spit out from the community of nations. No leader should meet them. No country should harbor them. And those that do should be sanctioned. In the meantime, hamas is still getting into israel. This gunboat all with them late wednesday. There were multiple incursions by Hamas Terrorists yesterday. I drove right to stereo during this time three terrorists were out. The tempo of fire here far higher than in 2021. A drumbeat that seems to signal a ground offensive, all but inevitable. Even so, its outcome far from certain. Nic robertson, cnn, sderot, israel. All right, i want to bring in gideon levy now, a journalist and opinion writer with haaretz in tel aviv. Good to see you, tragically this is another bloody chapter. Isnt it . Or it will be bloodier than others. In the cycle of wash, rinse, repeat. Some of you call it mowing the lawn. What is the risk once the dust settles of the return. F fundamental issues are not addressed. What will this happen again . Unfortunately, israel does not learn anything from the past. Because we have been there so many times. And committed the same pretext and gaza. Killed so many people of gaza. And a few months later, one year later. We were back in square one we have to realize that these problem, there is a huge problem, this problem will never be solved only by force. But now i think we are facing a new situation. It seems now, its not going to be like in the past. Israel, at least according to the plans, at least according to the warnings and the threats, is going to create a massive crime of war. If we are going to transfer 1 Million People within 24 hours, this will be unforgivable. That is a tragedy that nobody can know how it will end. On saturday there was a valiant Attack On Israel. But this does not mean that israel cant go crazy, and do whatever it wants. If we are really going to face this, i am very scared. Yeah, i mean, israel strikes and gaza are massive and hamas, lee at least is the target. Hamas says. But hamas isnt gaza read in large in terms of the 2. 2 Million People who live there. Do you think that fact gets loss and what we are saying . Yes it does, because at the end of the day hamas should be punished, and should be smashed. But you cannot do it at any price. There are limits. There are legal limits, there are moral limits, you cant do them at any price. Unless you decided you claim all gaza and expel the 2 Million People of gaza. Or exterminated them. We should get there, we should do whatever is possible, legal, and moral, but not be on this because i really feel we are on the edge of a catastrophe. the new stuffed quesadillas. Only at El Pollo Loco youre probably not easily persuaded to switch mobile providers the for your business. Llas. Welcome back, i am michael holmes. The Israeli Military calling on all civilians and Northern Gaza, including gaza city to evacuate southwards on friday. The u. N. Urgently seeking clarification, saying such an Evacuation Order simply is not possible. It is the surest side yet that the Israeli Ground offensive may be imminent in retaliation for the hamas massacres that killed 1200 people. [speaking in a nonenglish language] [sound of artillery] the idea says some 300,000 israeli troops are now amassing near causes border. Artillery and airstrikes against hamas targets inside of gaza have continued almost nonstop. The palestinians say more than 1500 people including 500 children have died so far in those israeli bombardments. The u. N. Says nearly 423,000 people have been displaced from their homes. Food, water, fuel, power, all have been cut off. I want to bring back gideon levy, journalist in tel aviv. Im sorry, we lost the ordeal with you earlier. I was gonna quote you from a piece that you did inherit. And you said the threats of threatening guys approve only one thing we have not learned a thing. The arrogance is here to stay even though israel is paying a high price once again. Just briefly explain that for us. Those where wait and before i knew how big was the massacre in the south of israel. And still, i stand behind it. Because israel should obviously protect itself. Israel has the right to retaliates, to take revenge, to smash gaza knot, gaza, To Smash Hamas all of this is legitimate. What is unacceptable is now we will punish 2. 3 Million People in the way that we have never punish them before. That is a crime of war. Listen, by the end of the day in gaza there are before anything else, human beings. Like you and me. And they are in terrible, terrible position now. Where will they run . Where will they find rescue . 1 Million People run to the south part of gaza, or should they run into the ocean . I mean, what do we say that because we were victims of a terrible, terrible attack on saturday, now we have the right to do whatever we want with innocent people . This is really above all, what will it lead . What Will Israel Gain out of it . And this is what i meant that they dont learn anything. In a few months, it will be over. Gaza will be and then what . Who will replace hamas exactly . Yes. And then this obviously goes without saying. But the hamas my attack was horrible, beautiful, terrorism. But a critical strategic mistake by pushing the palestinian issue to the side, the core issue of the occupation and so on, should the core palestinian issues, the occupation issues. Self determination, and so on, be part of the discussion once the dust settles because it has not been for a very long time . I could not agree more. That is exactly what i meant when i spoke about the israeli government. We will make peace with all the world, including the emirates, and saudi arabia. We will have a prosperous country with high tech and everything. And, in our backyard there will be 5 Million People living in terrible conditions under a brutal dictatorship. And this can last forever . We have normalized the city of gaza. We organize the occupation. But those phenomena are not normal. And Those Phenomena Cannot Last Forever Without Paying A price. And here we are. There have been clashes, and deaths in the west bank to. Where a lot of focus has been. What are the risks of the major uprising in jerusalem or the west bank . Israelis or the settlers are doing Everything Possible to provoke it. They killed now by crazy, the settlers, but who cares now . There is a chance that this will x billowed. But the palestinians are very very weak. Very divided. And above all without any chance to do something. Because the israeli controlling in the west bank is so tied up, that i do not see a Major Development there. The real danger is now from the north. Not from the west bank. Yes. From lebanon. Were right out of time. Gideon levy, always a pleasure to speak with you and read your stuff in the haaretz. Thanks so much. Thank you. While Relief Groups are calling for the protection of civilians in gaza who can continue to suffer in the bloody war between hamas and israel. Cnns nada bashir reports now. And a warning, her report does contain graphic content. Gripped by grief. A loss of unfathomable scale. Gazas death toll, and the number of civilians wounded is rising with each and every airstrike. In the al shut to refugee camp, men dig with their bare hands, desperate to rescue loved ones from beneath the rubble of what ones with their homes. [speaking in a nonenglish language] he begins to list the names of the children killed in this latest strike. Among them, his niece. She was just a few months old. Now, she is one of more than 440 children gazis Health Ministry says have been killed by israeli airstrikes so far. Israel says it is striking hamas targets. Authorities hearsay medical facilities, schools, and residential areas have been impacted. Our neighbor said that the israelis had called and told them to evacuate the area around our home. So we came to stay with relatives here he says. But the next morning, when we woke up to pray at dawn, the air strike happened. There was no warning. The densely populated gaza strip, which has been under and, israeli air, sea, blockade since 2007, is home to more than 2000 people. About 40 of them are children. So, far at least 40,000 people have been displaced within gaza. Many are now forced to take shelter and u. N. Run schools like this one. But civilians here are also now facing what these really government has described as a complete siege on gaza. Translator theres no water for us to drink, no water for us to wash ourselves with so that we can pray. Theyve bombed our schools, many people have been killed, its not fair for children like us. Why is this happening to us . Life under a blockade is all that the children of gaza have ever known. For some, like 13 year old nadine, it is hard to imagine a future beyond this relentless conflict. The last couple of nights have been the worst couple of nights ive ever lived in my life. This is not living. This is existing. Were not planning our futures anymore, were just trying to survive. But survival in gaza is becoming more and more difficult by the day. The humanitarian situation is rapidly deteriorating. And the u. N. Has condemned what it has described as israel s unlawful blockade on gaza, and the indiscriminate nature of his rules airstrikes, there is little hope that the bloodshed will end here. Nada bashir, cnn. Now after israel cut power, water, food, and feel to gaza. Norways Foreign Minister said blocking access to humanitarian aid from gaza is quote, unacceptable. Earlier Cnns Anderson Cooper spoke by phone with the Norwegian Refugee Council spokesperson and gaza. And they discuss the situation on the ground. You, have an israeli officials said earlier today that gaza will not be provided with any electricity, or water, or fuel, until israeli hostages being held by hamas are being returned home. What is the impact so far been in gaza . So far the situation in gaza is really bad, before starting this war. After that, after this war on gaza the bombardment got to that. No electricity, no fuel. And i think in a couple few days we found that all the stores in gaza will be empty. There will never be anything for being able to consume and gaza. Where do people get basic supplies . I mean where are people getting food . For example, i have to know that [inaudible] every day and every morning i have to go in line to stand in front of a bakery for two hours to [inaudible] there is no enough supply from anything. [inaudible] around me. That was an explosion . That was a bomb. Yes, yes, sorry. And what about water . When you turn on tops in your home. Do you get any water . There is no water and gaza. Especially even, we have other sources. Like we [inaudible] but there is no electricity to pump these water up to the tanks and houses. So we collect water and cooking boats. And small, just trying to store why theyre. Not even for [inaudible] for drinking water, but also for hygiene. I wonder what people there are saying about the attack that took place in israel . Is there a lot of support for the attack that took place . That you hear from people . Honestly, they all of us. Too many people here. They want to tell us how to provide safety at the beginning for their children. Food, and other mates. With all of this bombardment over our heads, we do have space in our heads to think and any basic situation of our lives. We cannot think of anything, and all of this chaotic situation. Club barred mints, no electricity, no water. What theyre expecting from gaza to think about . Are there any people being held by hamas . People are unaware of the situation. Theyre unaware, if they do see any of the region for the International Community to understand. We dont see anyone going from the outside world. People here living, i can say theyre living day by day. We are living here second by second. Every day, when we go to find some food. Especially when the night comes, we are praying just to see the daylight again. The situation here is unbearable. I dont think that anyone in this planet can handle the situation here for one hour. If there is a Ground Invasion. What do you expect . All the news talking about a Ground Invasion. We are completely terrified from this scenario. All of this bombardment. And on top of this, a Ground Invasion. I dont think its going to be a horror. Its literally her here. Second by second we see this bombardment around us. Youssef, thank you so much for talking to us. Thank you, thank you so much. Thank you. If you would like information about how you can help humanitarian efforts in israel, and gaza, go to cnn. Com slash impact. We have gathered a list there of vetted organizations responding to the crisis. An israeli woman literally took a bullet for her son to save his life during last weekends brutal hamas attack. You will hear a heartbreaking interview with her children who lost both parents in the rampage. Thats when we come back. Funerals held thursday for some of the people who have been killed over the last few days. Israeli families gathering in jerusalems mount hurdles cemetery to attend the funerals of soldiers killed in the conflict with hamas. [crowd chanting] meanwhile, palestinians mourning the deaths of five of their own that were killed by israeli settlers, and for slice in the occupied west bank. The nationalities of the victims of the hamas attacks last weekend stretch right across the globe. They include thailand, brazil, russia, the uk, australia, and ukraine. All right, joining me now on the phone, dr. Cousin is a british Palestinian Surgeon Working Inside Ship A Hospital in gaza city. Thanks for being with us sir, its sort of emblematic of the difficulties there that weve got you on the phone, and not via video as planned. Earlier on thursday, the International Committee of the wet process hospitals in gaza risked turning into morgues as they lost power and supplies. What is the situation for those wounded in gaza . Doctor, are you there . [silence] we seem to have lost the lead. It is very difficult there and gaza. Obviously with communications, electricity, and so on. We were hoping to get the doctor via video. Then telephone. It seemed both have failed. All right now, we are continuing to hear horrific stories about the violence that played out during the hamas Attack Inside Israel last weekend. Debra matthys was on the phone with her father when she and her husband were shot and killed in their home. Debra shielded her teenage son with a gunfire with her own body. Likely saving his life. The son was wounded in the attack. He later spoke with cnns poppy harlow along with his two sisters. Poppy asked him how his recovery is going. I am doing very well, i am able to walk now. A few days ago, i could not even stand. The bullets inside of my stomach has been taken outfield surgery. And i am feeling very much better. We are showing, as we speak to you, these beautiful pictures of your parents. And it was so striking to hear your grandfather earlier this week described what they did to save you. And how your mother bore the brunt of the gunfire. And did what every mother would do for their child. Could you help to tell us about her . And if father . I cant really explain and words. But they were the best, they did everything in their power to give us the life that they wanted us to have. They wanted us to be happy to be whimsical, they wanted to be joyful. They wanted this to be and pays. They didnt want us to be at a situation like this. And they wanted us to live more than anything. So, as you said, mom and dad. They sacrificed their lives to save me. Do you, what would you like to share . [crying] i just want to say that we are very, very sad. That our parents are god. They were very, very brave. They were good people. And they did not deserve anything this horrible. None of the people in israel, none of the foreign citizens who are here or has taken any of this. Sadly, [inaudible] our parents, and where just sitting and waiting to hear anything about them. Okay, not only did you lose your parents, but you also had to learn, he learned that they were killed from your brother, rotem, sending you that message. Those moments . Yeah we both, it was very, i didnt want to believe it, and i dont think getting one whatever wants to believe the text message, it said, mom and dad are dead. Mom and dad are dead, sorry. And that was when my service was gone. And i was cut off. And i was about 13, 14 hours in the safe room. I had no idea what happened to my parents. If they really are gone. And i did not know if my brother was still here. [crying] and i was so worried, and i was so scared. And we heard bombs everywhere, and we heard shooting, and we heard screams. [crying] no one should ever have to go through that. Ever. We will take a quick break. When we come back, a protest on u. S. College campuses over the Israel Hamas WarFrench Police using water cannon and tear gas to break up a propalestinian rally and on thursday. President Emmanuel Macron has banned protest in support of palestinian people, saying they were, quote, likely to generate disturbances and public order. Muslim and jewish communities in europe. In tunisia, thousands of people filled the streets of tunis to show their solidarity with the palestinian people. Demonstrators also demanding that any normalization of relations with israel be made a criminal offense. Now here in the u. S. , tensions rising at College Campuses from harvard to ucla over the Israel Hamas War. Cnns nick watt reports on that. A socalled day of resistance on campuses across the country called by National Students for justice in palestine, which hails the hamas Terror Attacks as a historic win for the palestinian resistance, across land, air, and see. That is the justification of the murder of as we have seen throughout history under a different name. San diego state, one propalestinian protester said this. We are not for any lives, lost no matter what, palestinians or israeli. Do students in the u. S. Have experienced antisemitism, that was before this occurred. Now we are seeing the levels rise, the incidents, rise the complaints rise. At harvard, a Statement Released within hours of the attacks begins we the undersigned Student Organizations hold the Israeli Regime entirely responsible for all unfolding violence. Some half were tempted after a backlash that included a Billionaire Hedge Fund boss asking harvard to name members of the groups that signed so none of us inadvertently hire them. Last night their names and faces emblazoned on a truck in a harvard whereby conservative organization, such intimidations character productive said harvard. A jewish Student Group. The conversation on why isnt isnt productive discourse is what we are seeing really taking shape. A major Upenn Benefactor has called on other alumni to close the check books after what he said was College Leaders apparent failure to condemn the views of some speakers at a recent palestinian Literary Festival on campus. Even after the hamas attacks, College Officials have condemned antisemitism. In los angeles on, Tuesday A Pro Israel Rally just a stones throw from the ucla campus. The Cultural Affairs commission of ucla Student Group hosted monday, we honor the palestinians on the front lines taking their land and sovereignty back. They say this is not antisemitism. Judaism is separate from the Political Movement of zionism. These are ucla organizations, and they have the permission to say these things. It is absolutely absurd. You are holding an israeli flag, is that something you would be okay doing on campus . Oftentimes on campus, you are scared to hold the flag if not with a big group. Theres a lot of antisemitism on campus, it is always felt at all times. And now we are on the ucla campus, where today a large pro palestinian rally tensions are only going to heighten after what happened in the middle east, what is going to happen in the, middle east and also tensions particularly on campuses over where between standing up for palestinian human rights, and glorifying murder. Nick watt, cnn, los angeles. We are still getting heartbreaking stories about the hamas Attack On Israel last weekend. A few hours ago Cnns Wolf Blitzer spoke with an israeli soldier whose mother was killed in the onslaught, weve asked him what he felt when he realized his mother was gone. It was bad feelings when we found them. Did not believe it. That not think no way i would find it is crazy. It is crazy. I cannot really feel it. Now it also i dont really have time to so, after we will win this fight. We start how is your family processing this really disgusting and horrendous attack on what was supposed to be a celebration of life . The newborn baby . A lot of pressure in the war zone, a lot of pressure always graham coming, why is not coming. They understand now that so they ask why she got murdered. Nobody understands it. Everybody is just crying you wat to and your mothers name and memory, do you expect you actually will be deployed . All of the israelis are under attack, im finding wherever they need me the most. For me, we dont really have a difference between hamas and doesnt, we have so much enemies, and it is not only a fight between israel and hamas, it is a fight between evil and the other side no mercy. Now amid the carnage or destruction in gaza, a little bit of joy and happiness birth of a baby can.
