Hello. Welcome to our viewers joining us here in the United States and Around The World. We continue our breaking News Coverage of israel at war. Im john voice, and its midnight here on the east coast. Some gruesome details carried out of the weekend in israel. Sikh cruel acts of brutality carried out On Women And Children which were beyond it or abhorrent. Subject matter the video is graphic and disturbing. The Israeli Government says babies and toddlers were found with kids decapitated at a kibbutz in Southern Israel. Amounts denies the beheading of children, that calling the allegations fabricated and baseless. Meantime israels military stepping out airstrikes on gaza as its forces mass near the border ahead of a likely Ground Incursion. Palestinian Officials Say the only Power Station in gaza has now run out of fuel and is no longer working. Hospitals also expected to run out of fuel for their own private juror generators. The Weeknd Territory Acts have brought together Rival Factions from across israeli politics, with an announcement of a wartime cabinet. The people of israel are united. Our leadership is as well. We put aside our differences because of the faith of our country is on the. Line we will Work Together shoulder to shoulder for the sake of our citizens of israel. U. S. Secretary of state Antony Blinken along with a top Hostage Negotiator and now heading to israel. Blinken says discussions are ongoing about the vegetarian corridor to allow food and medical supplies into gaza and to allow civilians out. Live now to london, where our reporter was following developments for us. Its interesting, because up until this weekend attack by hamas, israel was facing an incredible period of division. Now they have a unity government, at least for the duration of the war. I suppose there is a painful irony here, john, for israel, in that its so disunited in divided over the past months since netanyahus government began pushing this judicial overhaul that hamas succeeded in actually israelis, not just ordinary israelis, believing there sparring politicians. This is one of the biggest developments that we saw perhaps as another precursor to this Ground Invasion that we all expect to be imminent, which is that the former Defense Minister benny gantz who previously served with netanyahu, they are bitter, foes they have put their differences aside. Benny gantz took to the cameras to outline his reasons for joining us emergency government, and what hamas has in store. We will fight this war to indicate to our enemies very clearly, there will be to pay. And we promise to the people of israel, when we say never again, we mean it. Never again. And of course using that language, which is so often referred to the holocaust, to say never again, he also invoking that language and invoking the holocaust. This being of course as president , as president herzog said that the most murderous day for the jewish people since the holocaust. John . Elliott gotkine in london with the very latest there. Thank you. The community of kibbutz was one of the first places struck. It took the Israeli Military hours to retake control. On wednesday journalists could see the juror the carnage firsthand. The content is disturbing in this report. It was 7 11 a. M. On saturday morning when the militants arrived at the beeri kibbutz. Surveillance footage shows them lying in wait until a driver arrives. Issue the driver and enter the compound. More poured in on motorcycles. Eerily at ease and in no apparent hurry. Thomas hand heard the gunshots and immediately thought of his eightyearold daughter, emily, who was staying with a neighbor. She doesnt do it very often, but unfortunately that night, that particular night, the friday night, she went to sleep at her friends house. For 12 hours he says he was pinned down under heavy gunfire, unable to reach his daughter. As hamas went door to door executing his neighbors. Waiting, im thinking the army are going to be here soon. You know, just hold on a bit longer. And longer. And longer. [crying] by the time the military gained control of beeri, this is what remained of the [inaudible] for the first time after days of pitched battle with. I saw houses soldiers fight here. I thought here myself only to get into the kibbutz, only to come from apartment to apartment. It took a lot of time. Theres a way in your conscious, to know how long it took . You know, we have a very difficult question to ask yourself. Now, we look forward to defense of the people, to take the survival and to switch yourself on defense, two offensive operation. Im sure that we ask yourself all the difficult question of the day. For now there are more pressing questions. The bodies of more than 100 residents have been recovered, but the army says that many more are still missing. You can see the amount of blood. This was a massacre. And the full scale of the horrors that transpired here are just starting to come to light. Pictures. Family photographs on the wall. Thomas waited two agonizing days before getting the news. They just said, we found her. She is dead. And i went, yes. I went yes. And smiled. Because that is the best news of the possibilities that i knew. That was the best possibility that i was hoping for. That she was either dead or in gaza. And if you know anything about what they do people in gaza, that is worse than death. Its worse than death. The way they treat you. They would have no food. They would have no water. Should be in a dark room filled with christ knows how many people. And terrified every minute, our, day, and possibly years to come. So death was a blessing. An absolute blessing. Clarissa ward, cnn, beeri cuba, israel. Right now the front line of gaza is at the front doors of most palestinians and their neighborhoods are being flattened by israeli airstrikes. Raising concerns about a looming military crisis. Also ahead, could israel be facing a second front to the norths, as tensions escalate with hezbollah to the highest they have known in decades. Welcome back. At least 51 people were killed. More than 280 injured early thursday in gaza. A Palestinian Health ministry put the death toll at close to 1200, mostly civilians. The Israel Defense forces say hamas targets have been destroyed by airstrikes and artillery fire, but the reality is civilians are being caught in the cross fire. Cnns Nellie Shearer has more and a warning, the video and images youre about to see are disturbing. The yet another round of israeli airstrikes. Another neighborhood in gaza, decimated. The injured are many here. But so are the dead. In the north of this tiny besieged enclave, survivors on the edge of our left to terms with all they have lost. We are civilians. Lot of single Resistance Fighter was here. Not a Single Person here was coming even a bullet. Why . Why are you targeting civilians . [speaking in a nonenglish language] there are body parts scattered everywhere. There are still people missing. Were still looking for our brothers, our children. Its like we are stuck in the living nightmare. More than 2 million palestinians, including almost 1 million children, live in a densely populated gaza strip. An area which has been under a land, sea, and air blockade, enforced by israel since 2007. Israel says it is targeting hamas infrastructure, focused on destroying the groups military capabilities. But humanitarian workers in gaza say it is civilians that are paying the highest price. We are extremely worried that what is happening now is totally unprecedented in our entire areas, not just one area, the entire areas are being destroyed as we speak. There are districts in camp which is a very crowded area. According to authorities in gaza, homes, schools, and even medical facilities have been targeted in this latest round of airstrikes. On wednesday for Palestinian Red Crescent paramedics were killed while on duty. And is israels aerial bombardment of gaza intensifies, hospitals are being overrun. Translator i was sleeping, and then suddenly everything started falling on us, 11 year old raskin says. Someone came and helped out. They took me straight to the hospital. But i dont know what happened to one of my sisters. These really government has declared a complete siege on the gaza strip. Meaning no food, no water, no electricity, no fuel. I move condemned by the United Nations and characterized by Human Rights Watch as an act of collective punishment. Tantamount, according to the ngo, to a war crime. The death toll in gaza is rising rapidly. With more than 1000 People Killed so far. But there is also deep concern over the fate of more than 100 israeli and other citizens held captive here by hamas. Threatened with execution if israel strikes gaza without warning. We id idf has told civilians in gaza to evacuate, but safe spaces under a blockade are almost impossible to come by. And with the possible Israeli Ground incursion coming, for the overwhelming majority of civilians here, there is simply nowhere safe to turn. Nola beshear, cnn. Israel has deployed Tens Of Thousands of extra troops to their northern border with lebanon, as well as the golan heights. Concerns are growing these really may soon be facing a second front as tensions escalate with iranianbacked terror group hezbollah. Israeli forces and hezbollah forces have exchanged west border fire. The white house said his sent a clear message to hezbollah to sit out the conflict, with the deployment of the Aircraft Character Uss gerald ford in the eastern mediterranean. Rana curry is a distinguished public fellow at the American University of beirut, a well published author and political common columnist. Good to have you with. This is been a long time. Thank you. There has been a Constant Exchange in this cross border clashes in israels north over the past five days. Right now there seems to be no agreement on what hezbollah will do. There seems to be limited confrontations, if you like. Hezbollah is keeping its palette dry. Is it the point that whatever hezbollah decides to do, have bigger role that will have in determining the direction of the war . Its not just hezbollah. Theres a confrontation with israel and hezbollah. So both sides have to make a decision whether to get involved in an active war or to just dofortat symbolic actions. The reality is that hezbollah and israel have been actively at war on and off for about 20 years or so. They both have immense capabilities, technical and firepower it sattre and determination, and they realize that they are pretty ably matched in many ways. Israel is still a bigger army but hezbollah has become a truly sophisticated so, they both know that if a war starts, its going to be massively destructive for civilian, for civilians and infrastructure, both in lebanon and israel, therefore for about ten years or so now they have had a detente, not into taunt, a truce essentially on the lebanese israeli border. If Somebody Shoots across, the other Person Shoots back. If they kill ago, they kill a dog, if they kill three people, its happened today, the other side killed three people. And that is, where i think, its going to stay. It comes down to a question of the relationship between these groups. How closely is hezbollah working with hamas . Theres a report in Foreign Affairs which says the roof or hezbollah and quds force have been meeting in around four years, following the may 2021 rocket war between amassed and israel. The newspaper coordinated the fighting from a joint war room in beirut. So how would you describe the relationship between hezbollah and hamas . Its a monsoon to your partner . Is a friendship of convenience . How does it work . They both have strong ties with iran. Hamas is sunni muslim. But they are very close ideologically, and they realize that if they Work Together they have much more impact. Its obvious to anybody that after hezbollah developed tremendous technical capabilities with iranian supported maybe other people, those capabilities have been now shared with a mouse. Between or through third parties like in the game and. How do the coordination, we dont know. They are very secretive. And they are very good at keeping secrets. But they clearly form a, what they call a Strategic Deterrent front. And they have one or two other partners in the region like the hotties in yemen and smaller groups and they see themselves as fighting for the same cause. John kirby on wednesday once again had this warning for israel and its enemies. Here it is. The bottom line is, sitting alone clear message, United States is ready to take advantage today after hostile to israel considering to escalate this war. So from groups like hezbollah, how much weight does that threat actually carry . Is it likely to have any impact on the decisionmaking process . When iran hears that, what do the here . The United States is good at many things, but its not very good at diplomacy or warfare in the global south. So the u. S. Acts tough to support israel. It is always done that. But i dont think these kind of statements influence very many people in the region. If iran or hezbollah wanted to do something, an american threat probably would not stop them from doing it. But i think the reality is that neither iran nor hezbollah want to start a bigger war. The United States is hysterically obsessed with iran, for some reason. But the u. S. Always has to have an evil bad guy, a menace in the region. It used to be a rock, a used to be the russians, used to be oconnor, and all kinds of other groups. And now its iran. And its ironic the u. S. Negotiated an agreement. A very good agreement with iran on Nuclear Issues and sanctions. But iran has seen that the u. S. Public sphere and the political in the media is a really terrible menace. Almost as bad as china is in the u. S. Eyes. Therefore they keep playing this, overplaying this sense of, we are going to stop iran from doing this and doing that in iran shows no sign of wanting to be involved in the war. So i dont take very seriously with the u. S. Is about the middle east ideological and political moves so neither do most people. Rami khouri, great to have you with us. Your insights and experience. Thanks for having me. Well take a short break. When we come back, israeli reservists from Around The World heading to Southern Israel for the massive Ground Incursion into gaza looking more likely with each day. Welcome back to our viewers here in the United States and Around The World. Im john vause. Youre watching cnn newsroom. 27 minutes past the hour. Is Opposition Leader benny gantz has joined israels wartime cabinet. He said there is time for wartime for peace. This is now time for war. Airstrikes into their fifth day, compared with what the idea of said is a large break at this hour, [sound of artillery] israeli tanks and troops amassing along the border with gaza in what is what may expect be a major grand incursion. During the Northern City of ashdod, cnn reports columns of tanks with Crew Standing by. The Senior Adviser to the israeli Prime Minister binge in nesn yahoo is on the line. Thank you for taking the time to speak to us. My pleasure. So what is the latest on the hostages, the man, the women, children being held somewhere in gaza . Is there any Program Progress in trying to free the women and children at least . Ill say the following. If anyone in gaza, if hamas does anything to hurt the hostages, any of them, those involved will pay a price. We will find them and we will bring them to justice. So its not just the israelis who are being held. There are other foreign nationals who have been taken by hamas. For want of a better word, is israel under pressure from those governments to mount some kind of Rescue Operation where a Prisoner Exchange to try and get them free before there is a possible Ground Incursion . We will do what we need to do. But let me be clear. My message is to those who have captured us who have illegally taken hostages to hamas. Anyone involved in hurting the hostages will pay an enormous price. Hurting our people, hurting hostages, you are kidnappers, you heard them, you will pay a price. In the last 24 hours its been incredibly difficult. Confirmation of these acts of brutality carried out by hamas On Women And Children and babies. It hasnt even been a, week which is already beyond tragic. Its hard to imagine how israelis are dealing with this latest atrocity. What has been the impact there on the country . It is been very difficult. It has been a very difficult few days. The scope and scale and brutality of hamass attack on saturday took us by surprise. We are going through a very difficult situation, with somebody dead. And as you said, with so many people taken hostage by hamas. But we are determined. And if hamas started this war, we didnt want, but if hamas started this war, we will finish it. And we will finish it on our terms. Israel is a small country, about 9 million people. And it seems that everyone is either directly impacted by this, either by having someone being called up to serve in the reservist in the army being deployed to the north or south or burying directly impacted by burying the dead. So clearly this will have a huge scar on the country as a mobilizes and tries to work through this. So what has been your own personal experience throughout this . Like many israelis, ive got a daughter who has been called up. She is in the south. As i said, i am not unique. We will get families or loved ones. Its a small country. People are being volunteered for service. I think theres an understanding after the terrible horrific offense of last saturday. I mean, there are no illusions. Israelis, as you know, john, have been divided on all sorts of political issues. We have a very, we have had a very cantankerous political situation inside the country. But if anything good has come out of the hamas attack, the israelis i think got a wake up call that there is much more that unites us then divides us. And those killers, the hamas killers who crossed the border in massacred are people, killed children, massacred people as you know at that open air Music Festival, went into houses and randomly shot people, shot parents in front of their children, and so forth. That sort of brutality. They dont care. Hamas dont care if you vote left or right or center. They dont care about your political beliefs. They want to kill us. And so you have seen this outpouring of sense of outrage and of national unity. Thats one of the reasons, i think, why the government has been extended. Why Opposition Parties have come into the government. Because in this time of war, we need to Work Together. I think thats at the grassroots level, and it is now at the top political level as well, with benny gantz joining the coalition, and i hope others will join as well. Israel his faced a terrible blow, and we will hit back. We are determined to prevail, and we will do so as a united people. You mentioned the attack over the weekend. Its a surprise attack. Many questions right now about how hamas carried out such a horrible well coordinated attack by land, sea, and air. They said they tried to war israel week or ten days prior to the attack. President netanyahu has denied. That maybe the government did in fact know that they had this tip off and maybe it wasnt acted upon. As you said, there is no Switch Effect Intelligence that we received about the upcoming attack. But obviously there was an intelligence failure. Though we are now focused totally on winning this war, this war that was forced upon us, we will win the war and at the same time when this is over we will have to do a process of lessons learned, and discovering what went wrong, why do they managed to surprises, why is they managed to cross the border in such great numbers, some 1000, 500 people crossing the border. My Defense Minister said yesterday, theres never been a Terrorist Attack evolving so many terrorists in a single operation. And so obviously we have to look at ourselves, lessons learned, ask questions, we do that often after a military operation. Well definitely do it. Now but the folks today has to be on winning. The focus has to be on defeating hamas. It is crucial that we beat hamas. Other people are watching. There we have many friends in the arab world, many friends in the middle east, but we still have enemies, and people like in hezbollah in lebanon or the iranian government, they have to see clearly that if you strike against israel, israel strikes back, and israel strikes back forcibly. If we display weakness, we are only going to invite for the attack. Just very quickly, to wrap this up, obviously iranian involvement and all of, this there was a suggestion that iran might not have been involved in the attack over the weekend, it had some involvement, either was complicit, it was supportive, whatever, but is there evidence that iran gave hamas the greenlight to go ahead with this . As to specific intelligence, im not going to go into that. But i am going to say the following. If the whole world has united in condemning hamas is atrocious attack. If the whole world has condemned hamas for being the barbarians that they are or even as the president said, as president biden, said evil, there has been one great exception, and that exception is of course the regime in iran, which has applauded. They have cheered them on. They have congratulated hamas on their attack. I think that shows exactly where they are. As you know over the years, they have given massive support to hamas. What we saw in israel on saturday, we saw ices type violence. People being burnt alive, people get being decapitated and so forth and really isis tight violence. But unlike isis, a mosque has a state sponsor, and that state is iran. Mark we should leave it there. Thank you for your time. Mayor daughter stay safe, may your family get together when all this is over. Thank you for being with us. We appreciated you joining us. Youre watching cnn. Back in a moment. Welcome back. 39 minutes past the hour, and at this hour, the idea theyre conducting largescale strikes on hamas targets in gaza. There is a ramping up of airstrikes, and offensive, on hamas targets. The Palestinian Health Ministry Says 51 people were killed, more than 280 wounded, overnight. Gaza, now near total darkness, as it sole Power Stations shut down wednesday after running out of fuel. In the meantime, babies, and toddlers, were found decapitated following hamass attack on a kibbutz. Cnn has not independently verified the reports, and hamas denies the allegations. National service, compulsory in israel, as they graduate high school, young men served three years, when in two years. It is a shared experience with the country. 300,000 are called back to duty, may brief feelings of sadness, but also unity. Heres cnns jeremy diamond. At a Military Base in Southern Israel, columns of Israeli Americans stand at the ready. Awaiting orders for an invasion of gaza that everyone expects, but no one has yet to commanded. This is a country on war footing. These really military, calling up 300,000 reservists. It is one of the largest Mobilization Efforts in this countrys history, and this right here, behind, me is that Mobilization Effort in action. You are witnessing thousands of reservists, israelis from across the country, coming to this Military Base, in Southern Israel, to begin to prepare for the next phase of this Military Campaign. It is not just the scale that makes this mobilization different. Ive been in other campaigns. Over the last 30 years, thats never been Something Like this. For the soldiers converging on this base, the shocking brutality of hamas surprise Terrorist Attacks is still reverberating. Every person in israel has lost someone. Every person. We were in amsterdam until wednesday morning, until monday morning, but i came here to enlist in the army to fight those its an emotional moment. A very emotional moment. Yes. You cant see children die and do nothing. Its like an animal. Driving down roads, east of the gaza strip, preparations for the next phase of israels Military Campaign are everywhere. Trucks loaded with ammunition. Armored vehicles, thousands of Israeli Soldiers, mobilizing, and just seven miles from the gaza border, this formation of armored personnel carriers. We are a dozen kilometers from the gaza border, six or seven miles, what we are seeing here are the preparations for what many people in israel believe is going to happen next. That is the possibility of a Ground Invasion. You can see here, armored personnel carriers, perhaps in the early two dozen of those, as well as trucks, and you see soldiers are preparing with for the next phase of this war. Amid preparations for tomorrows battle, todays is still, very much, alive. Jeremy diamond, cnn, in Southern Israel. We Spokesperson Lieutenant colonel jonathan from tel aviv, and it is difficult to see you, thank you for your time. Thank you for having me. Israeli soldiers regained areas in the south as they go from community, to community. It seems that the atrocities go from bad, to horrendous. Have those discoveries been ongoing, is there an update to what weve heard over the last 12 hours or so . That the uptake is that, yesterday, during the day, International Media was allowed access to gather with Israeli Soldiers, basically, embedding within that operation. They went into a Community Called kibbutz and found more than 100 body bags of dead israeli civilians. Men, women, children, elderly, many babies. Really, we saw the scope, and the magnitude of the atrocities. Including mutilation of bodies, and people that are burned inside of homes. Really, horrendous scenes that i am at a loss for words trying to describe how cruel those scenes were. In all of the years of conflict between israel, and hamas, we has there been anything close to this level of brutality . Not only in the many years of conflict between israel, and hamas, but i cant recall anything in all of the history of israel. We have fought many wars against arab militarys, and of course, there have been many, many, sad, vial reports of mutilations of bodies, and at Israeli Soldiers that happened long before the war of independence in 1948. But, those were soldiers. Fighting. Of course, it cannot be understood, or condoned, but on the battlefield, here, we are talking about civilians. With that is what is so astounding in this event, that is every day goes by, we see more and more bodies, and the remains of bodies. You wonder why, and how, and what thomas would think that they would gain from behaving like this. It is a good question. One which we dont have an answer for right now. To move on, what is the latest on possible safe passage out of gaza for foreign nationals . Where do those negotiations stand right now . I am hearing reports about that, concerning egypt with, and concerning the u. N. I understand, it is a topic with Secretary Blinken that they will be dealing with. It is reaching the understandings, and what is possible, and what they are willing to accommodate. Well see it unfold clearly, it will attend a situation inside of those concerns, and anyone who puts actions towards, and are looking for the wellbeing of palestinians should, really, be concerned with allowing passage for the palestinians. With that in mind, what is the latest with allowing humanitarian supplies into gaza, especially now that theyre only operations are out of fuel. Is israel willing to allow food, fuel, and other medical essentials into the gaza strip . First of all, there is no way of getting anything in, because most of the infrastructure that supports that activity, gas pipes, roads from israel into gaza, were severed by the terrorists. Beyond that, i am unaware of any change in israeli policy in regards to the issue of providing fuel, electricity, water, et cetera, for the very same enemy that is fighting us. I am not aware of any change in policy if that happens. Of course, the idea will be fully executed. As for now, the situation remains as it was. Right now, in gaza, there is no differentiation between hamas militants, and Palestinian Civilians . Are they all being treated as the same . We are at war. We are fighting against a Terrorist Army that uses all of the infrastructure, the infrastructure that is supposed to be there for civilians, using that infrastructure for military purposes, in everything that it does. In the rockets that they fire, in the attacks that they launched against our communities, they hide underneath all of that infrastructure. So, from a Military Point of view, i am not saying from a human point of view, but a Military Point of view, we are looking at hamas as the governing entity of the gaza strip, and will not be providing electricity, water, or fuel to them to be able to fight against us. Good point to end on, colonel. Thank you, appreciate your time. Thank you. Welcome back, stories with bravery, and tragedy, families and friends remembering u. S. Citizens by hamas and israel. Welcome back. The white house, still trying to determine the status of americans believe to be taken hostage by hamas fighters. For more, here is u. S. President , joe biden.
