Hes set to be formally arraigned next week. He was indicted last week on four charges including conspiracy to obstruct justice and making false statements for the fbi. Trump, de oliveira, and nauta are said to have tried to delete Security Footage after it was subpoenaed by federal investigators and that the three men tried to alter and conceal evidence. Of course the indictment, oliveira told maralagos i. T. Director that the boss wanted the server deleted. Randi kaye joins us. What do we know about carlos First Court Appearance . It was very brief, about 20 minutes inside court. Once he got inside, he huddled at the table with his lawyer, john irving, who was here from washington, d. C. , surrounding them were about five or six u. S. Marshals. He greeted the judge. The judge started to read the charges. He asked if he had knew he had a right to a lawyer. He released him op a 100,000 bond and set parameters for that so hes not ee to do as he pleases. In fact, Carlos De Oliveira has the next 48 hours. Sport within he holds a u. S. Passport which is expired but he had to turn it in. He also told him he has some restrictions in terms of travel around the state of florida. He cant leave South Florida without permission. Hes also not allowed to make any contact with any of the witnesses that the government has i. D. d. The Special Counsels team has given his lawyer a list of those witnesses so he cant make any contact with them. Its worth noting he did not enter a plea as you said. That will take place on august 10th in fort pierce, florida. He did not have a floridabased lawyer with him, which is needed in order to enter a plea. His d. C. Based attorney said they are working on that. This delay could of course delay the former president s trial in this case as well. There is some question about whether or not that trial will take place before election day. So well see what kind of further delays mean for that. The grand jury, which typically meets on just tuesdays and thursdays, could vote on whether to indict the former president at any time. Former new York Police Commissioner bernie kerik is expected to meet with them. Evan perez joins us. Kerik was part of this effort to develop supposed evidence of fraud. Is that why his testimony is key to investigators . Right. Its important because obviously he just turned over thousands of pages of documents that the Special Counsel had been trying to get for some time, jim. So the question is whether the fact that hes going in in a few days, whether that means we have to wait until after that for an indictment of the former president , which everybody is anticipating, the former president himself is anticipating, given the fact he got that target letter, or is it possible that keriks testimony is about other players in that scheme, of course, which was to try to help keep the former president in power. Tim parlatore, his attorney, was on with paula reid over the weekend, and he addressed this issue. Listen. When you have Something Like this to bring an indictment before youve finished your investigation, for whatever reason they may choose to do it, it feeds directly into the Trump Campaign narrative about this all being, you know, about election interference. And so i think it would be incredibly stupid for them to go forward with indicting before they finish their investigation. So there you have some free legal advice from jim parlatore. Im sure welcomed. But, look, there is an issue that the former president is raising about election interference, which, lets be fair, hes going to raise no matter what. So, the question remains, is keriks testimony key to the former president s case if thats what theyre going to bring, or is it to other characters . To our knowledge, are there other witnesses still on the list in effect to come in, or do we not know . We do know of a couple other witnesses that are scheduled between now and the 17th of the month. Again, you know, weve been gaming this out, we think that its not necessary for those people to have been brought in before you bring an indictment. Today, though, the republicanled House Oversight committee is hearing closeddoor testimony with an exbusiness partner of hunter biden, devan archer. Sh hes also dealing with his own legal problems. Zack, you have new reporting about what unfolded. But before we get to that, tell us about this associate of Hunter Bidens devin archer. Reporter boris, republicans really teed up this testimony today and promoted archer, the former Business Associate of hunter biden, as a potential bombshell witness, as somebody who might be able to deliver that kind of smokinggun evidence linking the president to his son, Hunter Bidens to, foreign Business Dealings. Im hearing from sources who were in the room after hours of testimony, we just saw archer leaving, sources saying he did not deliver that smoking gun that republicans had hoped for. A source familiar with the matter tells me that, you know, archer told the committee that hunter biden was selling the illusion, in quotes, of access to his father, you know, his father not directly implicating President Joe Biden in any of the foreign dealings but saying hunter biden was trying to essentially trick Business Partners into thinking he could provide direct access to his father. We talked with congressman dan goldman, a democrat on the oversight committee. He sat through soeeveral hours the testimony today. Take a listen. I think it is safe to say that, after yet another two hours, there still is no connection of any of Hunter Bidens Business Dealings with President Biden. Im approximately 20 times over the course of a tenyear relationship, hunter may have put his father on the phone with any number of different people, and they never once spoke about any Business Dealings as he described it. The american nurse reportedly kidnapped with her child in haiti described the people she met there as, quote, full of joy and life and love. Alix dorsainvil was in the country working for the nonprofit her husband, sandro, had founded. The organization said thursday she and her child were taken right from the campus. Thats the same day the State Department ordered all american visitors to leave the country due to rising dangers there, including kidnapping. The u. S. Travel advisory says kidnapping is now widespread. Kylie atwood, what efforts is the State Department making to help free this american nurse and her child . Reporter the state Department Says this is an ongoing investigation. They arent speaking to any of the specifics surrounding this kidnapping other than saying of course they are aware of these reports of this kidnapping and they arent talking about demands obi the kidnappers or who is holding this american and their son or daughter who is with them right now. A state Department Spokesperson said earlier today this. Obviously the safety and security of american citizens overseas is our highest priority. We are in regular contact with the haitian authorities and continue to work with them and our u. S. Government and interagency partners. But because its an ongoing Law Enforcement investigation theres no more detail i can offer. Embassy were withdrawn due to the Security Situation in ha haiti. Cnn has learned that trumps Political Action committee spent 40 million this year to cover legal fees. And he could be facing more indictments before the summer is through. Cnns Kristen Holmes has been tracking the numbers. What stands out most to you about these details . So, this 40 million is only for the first half of the year. That is incredibly large. Just for comparison, in the entire year of 2022, Save America Pac, which is the Political Action committee that the bills are paid out of, only spent 16 million. Now, looking at the 40 million, it is important to note this is not just Donald Trumps legal bills. This is covering a multitude of associates current, former employees, staffers at maralago, aides at the white house, down at maralago, its a huge group of people who have gotten somehow wrappp in one of these investigations or another. Now we have learned its actually opening up a Legal Defense fund in order to help pay for those bills. Now, the Legal Defense fund will not take care of any of Donald Trumps bills but will go to the associates. We dont know how big that umbrella is going to be. Again, dozens and dozens of witnesses who come forward with lawyers paid for by Save America Pac. The other question is whether donors are unhappy about this because other candidates, a lot of Donald Trumps donations are smalldollar donations. Thats right. Months ago we reported that this actual structure for how donations work in trump world, that is at the very beginning when trump announced back in november, 1 of every dollar went toward Save America Pac and 99 went towards the campaign. Quietly they shifted that structure, 10 to the Save America Pac and 90 toward the campaign. Thats quite a significant leap and obviously because they were spending so much of this money on legal fees. When i talked to trump political advisers, they dont think this affect donors in a sense that donors know what theyre signing up for. They know hes going through legal issues, that this money could be used in that way. One thing to note is that even if the donors dont stop, as you said, a lot are smalldollar donors. If you are burning through money at this rate, can they keep up . Even if you have the same amount, and youre burning through cash so quickly, that might be where the real problem is is. A Potential Challenge for the former president. Republican senator Tommy Tuberville is holding fast to his blockade of more than 270 highlevel promotions until the pentagon presents its abortion travel reimbursement policy. President biden says the protest is threatening the safety of the country. But tuberville tweeted, all of these jobs are being done by those not affecting national security. However, the military faces an unprecedented dilemma. Come midaugust, the heads of the army and navy are scheduled to retire, and as of now, no one can formally replace them. Worth noting, senators are in week one of a fiveweek recess, so explain where things go from here and what is at stake. It very much looks like things are about to go in the wrong direction with a long recess for the senate. That means there wont be progress on this issue and the holds senator tuberville has put in, a number last week that was 301. Were waiting for an update on that. Its expected to double by the end of the year. That remains in place. The senior military leaders, two stars, three, four, largely remain paralyzed with these holds unable to move into their jobs and that has a cascading effect. A number of Senior Pentagon officials and others have detailed how this affects the military from Junior Officers having to step in and do jobs for which they are not experienced for or have the qualifications for, the retention of Junior Officers. Were heard this from, for example, general charles q. Brown, the nominee chosen to be the next chairman of the joint chiefs, all talking about how this affects military readiness, how it has the potential to affect retengts if this keeps playing out. All indications are that it will continue doing so, and that appear s to be the issue. The pentagon has tried to put pressure on tuberville to give up on these holds and allow these nominations to move forward. But as we saw from that fwtweet its had little effect and tuberville is not moving from his position. That means theres an open question about how long hes going to keep this up. It looks like quite a while now as even more and more officers are not only on hold but warning of the effects of this. Yeah. He seems very comfortable in his position. Cnn has obtained new Body Cam Footage of the incident where former ohio police officer, now former, released a Police Canine on an unarmed black man with his hands up. In the new video, former Circleville Pd officer Ryan Speakman, who was fired in the wake of the incident, could be heard attempting to justify his actions, but in one of the initial videos released from the incident, you can hear one of the other officers on the Scene Calling for him not to release the canine. With his hands up. Do not release the dog with his hands up. Do not release the dog with his hands up. Dont here do not do not in the wake of this, speakman was fired, but new documents obtained by cnn show the Department Fired him not because he released the canine on an unarmed man but because he talked about the incident with Family Members and colleagues who were not cleared to hear those details. He then allegedly lied to his police chief about who he shared those sensitive details with. Cnns Isabel Rosales has been looking into this story, the footage, the documents. This is remarkable. He was fired but not because he released the dog on an unarmed man even as his colleagues were saying dont release the dog . That is correct, jim. I went through about 50 pages of newly released documents, including the most important part from the police chief, chief sean bare. In it, he describes speakman as emotionally distraught, crying, stressed out over this July 4th Incident and repeatedly talking about it with colleagues. In fact, his chief ordered him, it says here, to stop talking about it and had him compile a list of those he had spoken with, sharing confidential details about that day. And ultimately, that list, these documents show, continued to grow and grow beyond Circleville Poliartment employees. The chief wrote in h report, Ryan Speakman disclosing information to everyone as well as his emotional state had potential to impact the investigation. Remember that use of force investigation and an internal investigation were going toen at the same time. These documents show the termination was based not on the dog attack, which he was cleared for, speakman was clearefor, but rather due to violating department policy. Heres what it says. Including unauthorized and inappropriate release of confidential or protected investigation. That new Body Cam Footage, it is the first time were seeing up close and personal that a dog attack, that deployment from the body camera of Ryan Speakman, the fired officer, and another colleague of his. You can hear what happens during that right after where he tries to justify what it is that occurred and how hes also confused as to why State Troopers seemed to be unhappy with him. Well show you this video, but it is graphic. Police, canine, youre going to get bit why are yall Police Canine, youre going to get bit. Final chance. Youre going to get bit. Here. Here. [ screaming ] get him off, please seemed pissed off. I dont know. He didnt comply. Gave him three commands. I told him final warning. Not seen that happen before. He wasnt complying. We also have this report from the man himself, a former officer Ryan Speakman, where he acknowledges in the report that he did hear State Troopers give commands right before that dog attack, but he does not address within that report whether he heard them telling him not to release the dog. Jim. Is there any continuing investigation of the actual decision to release the dog given what weve just seen there . As far as we can tell, this is the use of force board has said he followed the Canine Policy but not the policy of being a police officer. Thats why he was fired. And of course this goes on to the now rose and the charge against him. It will be up to a prosecutor. They are weighing, his family and himself, are weighing civilly suing the department for this. We see this in cases like this. Thanks so much. Delta air lines is facing a federal lawsuit after a male passenger allegedly groped a mother and her teenage daughter on board an International Flight last summer. The lawsuit claims that Flight Attendants overserved alcohol to the passenger and dismissed the womans concern when she told hem that the man was making her and her daughter feel unsafe. Cnn aviation correspondent pete muntean is with us now on this. A pretty unbelievable detail from this lawsuit. Walk us through it. Its really interesting because this is something that the Airline Industry is really concerned about in a big way, passengers being overserved, and we see these play out in Assault Incidents not just against flight crews but in this case, according to the federal lawsuit, against the passenger and her 16yearold daughter. The suit says about a year ago, july 26th, 2022, they were on this eighthour flight from jfk to athens, seated in the back of the plane near the galley, where the Flight Attendants work, in the middle section of the plane, a widebody, so aisle seats again. So they said that this passenger was so drunk to begin with, and then the flight crew continually served him drinks according to this lawsuit. D in fact, one of the Flight Attendants, according to this lawsuit, even joked as this passenger ordered a drink that only an alcoholic would order a drink before the flight took off. And so this lawsuit essentially lays out that this passenger was served ten drinks, according to this mom and her daughter, in the course of three hours. Ten vodkas over ice among other drinks. Yes. Right . And they were consistently brushed off by the flight crew. Then things escalated from there. Not only were their words exchanged between this drunk male passenger and the 16yearold daughter seated in the middle there, but then this lawsuit alleges that this man not only touched her bra strap but also touched her thigh. And so some really serious allegations here. And now Delta Air Lines is the defendant in this suit. The plaintiffs, we dont ono their names. Theyre withheld in this suit. But it really sort of lays out the onus on delta here to sort of protect these passengers. Its not only in their contract that they can boot a passenger if they appear to be drunk, but its also against federal regulations. Its laid out in federal regulation part 121, aing if a passenger appears drunk, it is on the airline to not serve them, period. It seems clear in this case, the daughter, the mother, theyre making the case, hey, we feel unsafe. Right. The daughter is having panic attack symptoms because she feels trapped. Ultimately they were able to hud into the galley, but a lot of passengers were paying attention to this. One other passenger came to the rescue and switched seats. That sort of defused the situation. But the real kicker here is that this man after this flight landed in athens, we walked free. There was no punishment against him. That is pretty unbelievable. No doubt. Well follow it.
