The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands this weekend reported community spread of the COVID-19 after going months with none.
The Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. and the governor's COVID-19 Task Force confirmed a total of eight people from a community cluster tested positive for COVID-19.
During a press conference Saturday, Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. Chief Executive Officer Esther Muña said the 147th case is a front-liner and was identified through outbound travel testing Friday. The individual did not show any symptoms and had already been fully vaccinated.
She said even if someone is fully vaccinated it doesn't mean a person won't get the virus. The 147th case is not a traveler, but has a history of being in contact with those arriving in the CNMI, she said.
