Markets. Dow is up 181, 30,150, all three of the averages setting record highs today. Shannon, you have made some very interesting moves in your portfolio, both what you have trimmed and what you have added to first to what you have trimmed apple and microsoft. T tell me why. So really two different stories here, scott. First of all, ill start with microsoft. As i talked about on the show, this is our Largest Holding and remains a very high convince for us we still have a lot of confidence in azure and the endtoend software it offers but from a portfolio perspective, it was time to trim apple, weve seen a significant runup, 75 in the last year and we really feel like a lot of that has come on multiple expansion. Weve gone from about 15 times to about 27 times. Although we do believe in the services storyand the mo monetization, we think there are better opportunities we trimmed back from a market weight to an underweight were going to continue to hold the stock and maybe look for opportunities to add back to it. At this point in time we think there are better opportunities in the market. Wow thats a big call, big commentary around apple. Lets be honest, though. A lot of those stocks, shannon, in that universe, the faangs are multiple expansion stories, but youre singling out apple for the one you decided to trim from and take your exposure down. I think were in the midst of this upgrade cycle and there has been enthusiasm to the newest iphone away from the 6 and into the 12 so i think there is runway in terms of hardware perspective. A lot of owners are looking a the it as is this the stock i want to go into, 2021 with economic momentum in the back half of the year with a lot of cyclical rotation that well talk about today as we have over the last couple of months. I think looking at where i want to place my bets, it makes sense to probably pull back a little bit here there might be an opportunity to add to this position if we see Services Continue to grow in importance, that might be that time but i think this is where we think you can take a little bit of money off the table in some of these faang stocks and get some other opportunities shannon, i continue with you for a moment you added to small caps, international and emerging markets. This sort of reminds me of what josh was saying yesterday, how the faangs have taken this pause and other areas of the market have started to really do well, energy, financials, travel, the russell, emerging markets. Is that the play that youre trying to make as well to some extent. I want to caution, i dont believe you need to make a fullscale rotation, some of these growth names we have to a completely cyclical portfolio. Josh and joe have talked a lot about this, we need this breadth, this broadening out of equities to occur in order for gains to be sustainable into next year. What you need to do is you need to see money coming from places that have done well, Investment Grade bonds, cash, gold, into equities so we think that makes sense to add to other Asset Classes outside of u. S. Large cap, small caps, emerging market, international, because the valuations are attractive there. For me, adding risk to my portfolio, im still going to hold apple and microsoft but add that cyclical without having to make a binary call on whether i think United Airlines is going to go up another 50 thats how we look at it from a portfolio perspective. I thinks opportunities for investors, particularly if theyve only been in large caps there are other places to put your money because of the way those indexes are built. Pete najarian, you have so many moves i want to get to and i want our viewers to hear all of these up bought shares of walgreens. Stocks down 28 year to date. Up added to micron and then you bought a whole bunch of calls and things ill talk about in a minute the stock you bought in walgreens and added to micron, talk to me ill start with the walgreens. What i found interesting, scott, is this every time amazon is rumored or does go into a specific category for competition, everybody sells it off and i think that creates opportunity. Weve seen this time and time again. Weve seen it when they were going into the grocery area in krogers and krogers dropped as much as it did and best buy dropped significantly. Best buy, all it does is seem to want to go higher. It was pushing alltime highs not too terribly long ago, hovering around that level when i saw the news they were going into the competition and amazon was competing with cvs and walgreens, i just thought it was a great opportunity to buy walgreens and i did. And ill use the implied volatility where i can sell options against it, scott. I will probably, unless something dramatically changes, this will be one of those names thats going to be in my portfolio that will turn into a merck or pfizer or any of those kinds of names where i think ive bought it at the right price and think i can hold it for a long period of time. All youve got to do is look at that chart in walgreens and it says it all in terms of with are that stock was and where it could like live return to. They do a great job in competition and theyre a Global Company and a lot of reasons why walgreens works. With micron, i see Semiconductor Activity every single day. Im proud of farmer jim. I think you stuck it through with intel, jim. Stock back up towards that 42. Micron we see buying, buying, buying every single day. Ive seen huge chunky options bought in there on a regular basis. I like the stock, i owned to the stock and ill continue to be in the stock and im going to turn this one also into one of those situations where i think fundamentally they are positioned well. I like what theyve got in terms of Going Forward in the 5g market, why this stock can be a stock that can continue to rise. It gott its gotten up into the 70s, i dont know why it cant get to the 85s. I see you bought amd calls, you bought nautilus. Youre probably spending about five hours a day on the machine anyway so that makes sense cocacola, underarmor, delta airlines, palantir, you bought calls on all of those. Palantir, that is only a trade. I strike when opportunities are in front of me its a name as we were all just watching this thing as its not been trading all that long the options in there absolutely are off the charts, scott. Its amazing to me to see a name like palantir that jumps into the options world right away and i already see them in the top three, top five almost on daily basis. It tells you how much of atheres an appetite there right now. I see riot, another name thats been on fire we see paper in there seems like every single day, large option paper. Those are names i dont believe in in the long term and i think valuations and all that, you cant even put valuations on some of these names but do i think there were opportunities to trade a lot of these names in the market right now jim lev parna lef leventhu bought its outside of my comfort zone when i saw you had bought salesforce, i sort of sat back in my chair at my diesk and i wa like jim farmer jim jim cramer, that makes sense to me farmer jim what happened to mr. Valuation yeah, well, okay. Lets talk about it for a second two days ago you and i and others were talking about the software stocks. I said at the time that salesforce stands apart. Its 60 times earnings, not 600 times earnings you have Something Special in marc benioff you have to recognize that i think the slack deal makes a lot of sense i think its great defense against Microsoft Teams and against zoom while at the same time giving salesforce a new business line to get into. They didnt get to to play defense, they got that to play offense. Benioff wants to knock microsoft on its tail. Its a twoway player theyve already got the camels nose under the tent with the kissedmer relati me Customer Relationship software and now they can get slack just as easily. The valuation is what it is. Because of it, i only nibbled. You actually dont want this stock to come down to a more attractive valuation that would indicate that somethings broken in it i nibbled here i want to own the company because its a fabulous company. I dont really like the price so im just nibbling. I hope to add to it over the coming months. Interesting move from you nonetheless. Well come back to you in a minute this says to me what ive heard from shannon and from farmer jim is that its the time to buy value, it a time to rotate out of the faangs or at least trim a little money and those stocks have been a little stagnant and its time to buy growth. Can you buy high valuation growth if you buy the right stocks, like a salesforce, like a snowflake, like a okta and they all knocked it out of the park and the stocks really surged after that and some of those maybe zscale or whatever are pulling back a little bit. Is it that time to buy value and growth i think you can buy the right growth i think those companies have to continue to hit it out of the park to continue to stay engaged. Im not willing to make those kind of bets in client portfolios we focused on quality growth, its been very, very well. Im not able to pick those that are going to be the surgical winners in the very growthy growth areas its a very dangerous game when youre a fundamentalist like me to be chases those stocks right here im a big, big believer were in the infancy stages of this rotation to value. I know weve had an enormous pop since generally ajenny and i we show last together in august youve seen it in performance thus far youre also seeing it in flows in november flows into value, flows were nine times into values, flows versus growth. What youll see heading into next year is the fundamentals are ultimately going to catch up you get the sentiment that begins it, the flows that follow it and ultimately the fundamentals that allow value to stay a leader. If you want alpha next year, i think its a very dangerous place to play in the really growthy growth sectors the robinhood investors can bet on sports again, my friend, and theyre not always going to be there. What if i told you the techs are up because of fundamentals because the digitization jeannie is out of the bottle and theres no going back. Even though the fundamentals have to catch up to the stock price a little bit, theyre there for a reason you dont have the same margin of safety that you do if you buy something at the right price, scott i would rather focus on playing that same opportunity buying a salesforce or buying a slack i could benefit tremendously if they happen to get acquired. The reality is theres other ways to play that game im not abandoning the growth trade. I think that would be a huge mistake. Youre right, hes companies are here to stay what im saying is sickcyclical optionality in 2021 is whats going to allow investors to outperform where i get that cyclical optionality is in some of the places that shannon just talked about, which are small cap, industrials, midcap, nonu. S. , which has other tail winds associated with it by the way, if youre really, really, really brave and you want to play a trade so theres going to be longterm winners in the cyclical trades and shortterm trades you can play, id look to energy, even though were neutral on it. Theres a cyclical pickup in demand and secular decline in output when you think about that, energys still down for the year a lot. Yes, its up 28 here recently but its down a lot. I think if youre a tradertype investor, a hedge fund looking to play catch up, youre dpog b going to be well served in buying that. Youve already been well served in energy recently. Do you know how much its up in a month . Mid 20s its now 32. 5 . Youve been rewarded if youve been in there. Now youre telling me i got a lot more to go in energy so lets look what is energy down year to date its still down in the mid 30s if youre a Portfolio Manager that needs to catch up and i want to preface this to say were not overweight energy yet but its a trade im considering. After yearend tax selling plays out and energy is one of the only sectors you can mitigate some of the gains you have by selling off, im going into next year and thinking that might be interesting. I also think we get into an environment in mid 2021, i know a lot of people think everythings going to be different this time. Were going to change the way we do everything. I actually think theres another ri risk, that we get into a roaring 20s environment in mid 21 with all the pentup demand i know i want to get out there as soon as i take the vaccine and others do, too its no accident, jenny, exactly what rob is talking about is the reason why Carnival Cruise is up 73. 5 in one month, norwegian 62, boeing 55, United Airline 48, marriott up 37 , Las Vegas Sands and hilton, those are all about the rob play, right . The pentup demand, the big pick up in the economy next year, but i wonder if a little of this is too much too soon. Those are huge gains for just one month and there are still a lot of uneven questions about where the economy is, the jobs number today was a miss, the vaccine rollout is going to be tricky theyre huge gains but i think whats more important, rather than looking up one month, what are they up year to date i think thats more telling. I also think its a little naive to lump United Airlines with marriott those every, very stories. Or airlines with hotels. Hotels will have a much easier and quicker recovery than the airlines that goes into their financials and their Balance Sheets and all sorts of other stuff. But also it has to do with the way people are going to return and the way that people pay for airlines so i dont like looking at all those together from an investment perspective fromperspective, sure, lump them together but from a longterm perspective, i think you need to break them out okay. Well, thats interesting do you guys agree with that, break them out i do, scott i think exactly what she said. The secular headwinds in the airlines and in the energy space, those are things that are not going away we know theres a massive change happening in those areas of the market however, i think in the short run you can trade those. Then you kind of pivot to some of the other things in the value space, lets say financials. I think we could jefr shooversho the upside in rates and financials will be the longerterm beneficiaries of that we talked about these fits and starts it started we continue today. It started in the beginning of september jenny, what it started when rob said it starts today, it really started in fits and spurts of that valuation narrowing started in the beginning of september. Pete, you play into conversation about growth versus call value and whether this week could have been an inflexion point for a lot of high valuati valuation, highflying, highfwroet companihigh highgrowth companies. We discussed at the beginning of the week whether there was down side risk because these stocks have run up so much. Maybe the inflexion point turns out to be a lot of them have proved their mettle. Theyve proved their value, the reason why they are there. Docusign was a subject of a debate we had earlier in the week that stock surging on their upbeat outlook there are reasons why some of these stocks have gone what theyve done just because youre going to reopen the economy and get to some semblance of normally doesnt mean those stories that benefited so much now are going to come to an end. Totally agree, scott. The reality is we will be in this sight when we do come out of this, vaccines, whenever that occu occurs, we will be in a hybrid society. So i think there are a lot of reasons that there are names out there that are they in front of themselves absolutely in some cases but the reality is a lot of these names will be here for the long haul. I wanted to address something. You guys were talking about rob brought up energy, you can buy it now it started over a month ago. Energy and the material space and the financials, if you go back over the last month, just look at november and i think jenny mentioned october. But if you just start at the beginning of november and see where all of knows have moved to now, especially the beta names in energy, weve had some nice moves out of chevron and exxon and bp and a lot of those names. About how about out of apache and diamondback and devon and the bet,a and 60 across the board and i still think theres up side. Sorry to interrupt you. Thats what my followup was going to be. Youre right, it has already started and those stocks have come a long way. And theres a lot of questions about energy demand, where were really going in terms of oil prices were still shy of 46. Weve been so in a range what makes you think theres still up side for the names that have already exploded to the up side like you just said . They exploded to the up side but jenny said lets go back to the beginning of the year. They can still recapture but i think theyre still left a move to get back to anywhere close where they actually started out, scott. Weve watched the price of oil and quickly watched this move thats gone from underneath 40, now were looking at crude youre talking about 46. That gives you a little bit of a sign as well also, its not just those names. You can even break it down over into the alternative space as well, if you want to look at a first solar or Something Like that there are all different areas in the energy space right now that are working. But the material space as well that i think is an area that has started to take off. You look at the xlb, went from 11 to 16 in a hurry. I think its an area that has a lot more runway in front of it, especially if these guys are talking about cyclical names, you could actually see some of these material names start to move to the up side. The financials specifically stand out for me, scott. When we talk about that, we talked about whats going to make these financials finally move last quarter we had record earning from jpmorgan and a few other banks that reported and they didnt react. Now were seeing that reaction to the up side as we watched the ten year get closer to 1 in a pretty fast way in the last month or so. You look at a jpmorgan, 101, now trading 122. Morgan stanley was in the 50s, now in the 60s across the board youre seeing a lot of quality names in finances we love the financials and where they are but everybody wants to always talk about the rates. Suddenly were starting to see that come into play now. Jenny, what happens if rates go above 1 . I know it sounds ridiculous to ask that question. Were still obviously in an incredibly low Interest Rate environment. Were not that far away from 1 . Is that a line in the sand in any way for any of the trades were talking about, the dividend trades, rates creep up, financials do better its trade creep up and rates creep up its not a line in the sand. I think the 1 would be beneficial to the banks. It will help in interest margins. Its not going to be terribly significant. But theres no line in the sand. It just a positive trajectory that were on. Maybe its a positive trajectory for banks, maybe not for the overall economy. You can argue that one side says growth and the other side says inflation. When were talking about valuation gaps and were thinking about energy, you need to look at things like the fact im sorry im going to gull all over the place. Rig counts are way down. Theres going to be way less oil, way less gas produced in the next year as rig counts are down and then demand is going to come up youre going to see that start to buoy these stocks that are still down 38, 40 youre going to look at value agents gaps start to close scott, you said something before and you were saying maybe the technical stocks are up for a reason and thats positive and that they deserve these valuations i dont think many of them do. I think a lot of them got chased to the right valuation and then chased way beyond that were going to see that start to modera moderate i keep having this come back in my head. Working versus leading when we think about the technical stocks and how well they worked, they may continue to work but they dont necessarily need to lead so i think the stocks that have not like the marriotts, like the oil stocks, the ones that didnt lead this year but are still going to make money and do well next year, those might be lead and then we come back around to what shannon opened the whole thing with, which is what joe and josh were talking about, which is needed to broaden i think were going to see broadening im glad you made that point. I got to split for a quick break. Co you can always watch and listen to us live on the go the half is back after this. [ whispering ] whats this . Oh, are we kicking karly out . We live with at t. Scott, i see some Halloween Costumes in our future based on that now t doubt as we look forward to halloween in 21 thanks, leslie picker. A lot of sectors that our group owns we got adobe on wednesday. Talk to me about your expectations lets get our viewers ahead of the numbers. Yeah. So first and foremost, takeaway, we expect this to be a good report based on web traffic to the site, Creative Cloud rema s remains. While digital experience is more of a business they built through acquisition, we expect to see continued revenue subscription growth on that as well were anticipating this to be a good report. I think its going to continue to do well to your point earlier, scott, whether were in a workfromhome environment or not, digital is the back bone of companies now. Pete najarian, you own Toll Brothers stock thats a company reporting on monday they consistently beat, s scott. I think they can beat again. I think the deliveries are going to be strong but the problem they mate haight have is the ave selling price. This is a stock that has come back in an amazing way you go back to march and it was down to 15. Now its all the way back to where it started, which is close to 49 i think this is a quality name in the building area im in multiple builders right now. I think this will beat and be a Strong Quarter cost co, they report next week as well thats at the end of the week on thursday yeah, november Sales Numbers were great should be a good quarter positives are theyre seeing growth across all categories, which is the middle of the story is higher for costco and receiving continued strong sales outside of the food on the periphery. Something to watch is gas comps. Those are likely down year over year and should improve quarter over quarter and keep improving. Lululemon. Three months its up big what do you have think lulu wil deliver next week . It had made a huge move to the up side, up something close to 60 for all the right reasons. All they do is beat. Theyre a strong company, great balance sheet. When you look at their Digital Sales just last quarter, up 150 that says a lot. Thats why youre looking at a pe level that is trading at kind of a lofty area in my opinion, about 50 or 60 so if youve got that kind of growth and they can continue that kind of growth in the society that were in right now and we all know so much stay at home and the clothing and Everything Else and the fact that theyve gone into different categories, mens as well, i think this is a country that continues to beat and it going to be a strong winner. Youre not in thor but you want to talk about winnebago they do the same thing. Winnebago has the chris craft marine business as well. If you look at these companies and camping world holdings, a competitor, they peaked in early summer and have drifted off that as we reopen maybe people arent going to be in rvs but numbers for rvs have been going very well well take a quick break. With adyen, the payments platform that delivers convenience for all. Adyen. Business. Not boundaries. Theres the wall we fixed it. Energy thats number one today. The sectors up nearly 4 , the s p is good for about 24 now lets answer your questions. First up, a video one for jenny on Energy Transfer this is lou from collegeville, pennsylvania i have Energy Transfer, et, in a roth i lend you shouldnt have an mlb in a roth. Should i continue to hold or sell that now . Thanks so much no, lou, thank you for the question jenny, whats the answer so the old school misconceived conventional wisdom that you shouldnt have an mlp in a roth or ira, i think thats wrong. Ive heard that for 20 years now. Theyre saying youre still going to need to pay taxes on the distributions. The reality is you only need to pay taxes on the unearned business income from it and only if its over 1,000. So the ubit tax that it would generate is usually very, very, very little. It almost never goes over a thousand, even in a usually large ira, roth or regular i think you should hold them in iras for the most part youre not going to bump into the place where youre going to need to pay taxes on that. Ill put up an article on my twitter after this that part misconceived old school mis concepticonception good stuff. Next a video question for you, shannon. Love the show its brandon from connecticut. I want to know your thoughts on jpmorgan do we buys are sell or hold or is there more down side from here thanks, guys what do you say well, thanks for the question, brandon. So jpmorgan i think continues to be a buy for us. If you like this in a flat yield curve environment, youll like it even more if you get yield curve driven by Economic Growth and inflation. Theres been some missteps lately with the ppp loan program. I think thats nearterm excuse risk but could offer a good buying opportunity this is definitely a good longterm hold to be the core of your financials exposure. Farmer jim to you, whats the outlook for walmart . Now a good time to buy take a look at the fiveyear chart at walmart its almost a Straight Line up and to the right its going to continue we know retail sales are high and growing we know walmarts got a fantastic online presence. 26 times earnings is right where it should be this will continue to grow as it has in the past. To naughtless pete now. What can we expect from marvel following earnings, pete they have high demand but they werent able to address it, get after it i think with this acquisition theyve made, Going Forward theyll be able to add to the supply chain because of the pandemic, they did have some issues thats always a good problem to have is way too much demand. Thats exactly whats going on here stocks sold off a little bit were working on petes shot to get him back up again you stay with him. Rob from pete in connecticut, not pete najarian, somebody else with 30 years till retier retirement, do i need bonds or minimize risk with stocks like cocacola, jpmorgan, verizon, et cetera this is the alltime question, stocks versus bond, specifically dividend stocks versus fixed income. I dont think rates will move enough to impact dividend stocks i think youre going to see a capital al occasion decision thats done by other longterm investors, insurance companies, foundations, endowments that lead them to stocks versus bonds. I think can you buy stocks i think thats a pretty smart decision given the absolute level of Interest Rates. And thats for that comingp, u weve got unusual activity with pete well do it next i felt like. I was just fighting an uphill battle in my career. So when i heard about the applied Digital Skills courses, im thinking i can become more marketable. You dont need to be a computer expert to be great at this. These are skills lots of people can learn. I feel hopeful about the future now. The teams been working around the clock. Wire, weve had to rethink our whole approach. Were going to give togetherness. Logistically, its been a nightmare. Im not sure its going to work. Itll work. I didnt know you were listening. Pete still with us on the phone. Unusual. Tell us what you have. We talk about semiconductor we have micron today and other names. By taiwan semi stuck out for me. They were buying earlier in the week, buying the december 108 calls. This time theyre buying the december 109 strike calls. I did buy those today. They have a decent enough expiration cycle i think this is a name that can move to the up side in a pretty big hurry. Zing is a gaming stock we talked about this one in the past weve had unusual option activities many times. We had a buyer of nearly 12,000 of the january 8th expiring. Those are the nine strike calls. Those are going for about 30 cents. A very, very large buyer there as well. Thats something that stuck taught to me i decided to grab both of these. A little further out expiration cycle with zynga ive never seen them so strong as what weve seen of late in terms of volume, size and in terms of being right its been more accurate than ive ever seen maybe that speaks, pete, to the fact of how active you have been with buying calls and things like that, right . When i go to you at the top of the show often, certainly lately, its like 15 things. Yeah. Its been incredible, scott. Ive never seen anything like it just to give you a small example, we averaged over the last couple weeks very close to 35 million contracts per day it gives you a comparison from that, 2018 2019, we were averaging close to 20 million contracts a day. This gives you a little bit of an idea of how much more active we are on a consistent basis there is options activity every single day not just the Robin Hooders this is actually huge size buying and selling were seeing in the options world and mostly call buying. Weve seen a lot of call buying including today, all kinds of different areas of the market almost all of what we were seeing was very bullish so far thanks for that shannon, i want to finish up some business with you not unusual activity in any way. But you bought analog devices. I didnt get to it at the top of the show tell our viewers why you like this stock here when it hits an alltime high today. Mostly because i felt so left out every time we talk about semis so i felt like i finally had to buy one to be part of the conversation this is a great stock. 50 of their rerevenue, we talk about increase to cyclicals, we think theyre going to continue to differ midtosingle digit growth and they paid 80 of Free Cash Flow back to stockholders we also want to make sure were getting paid for our investors thanks for that we did mention rates, Interest Rates on the rise lately yields on the ten year hitting the highest rates now. Kc for skin that never holds you back dont settle for silver 1 for diabetic dry skin 1 for psoriasis symptom relief and 1 for eczema symptom relief gold bond champion your skin all right. Lets do the futures outlook tenyear note yield hitting onemonth highs as we just said. Lets bring in Brian Stutland and scott nations of nations index. Scott nations, ill turn to you first. Youre on the lefthand side of my screen. What have you got for us i think yields will continue to go higher, scott. They jumped right after we got this unemployment number because it seems now that covid rescue keel or relief deal more likely, particularly if you consider what majority leader oconnell said yesterday and, scott, we have another thing going on. We have huge supply coming into the market next week we have 118 billion of notes and 30year bonds due to be auctioned next week so given the reaction to the jobs number its tough to find a home for all of them brian . Are we going above one and then were staying there i think we are. I talked about it the other day. If we get above 1 here, watch for 150 rather quickly if you look at the technicals, thats where we break higher when you look at 90 basis points is really the downside if we break below there, that to me indicates very bearish for the stock market, a flight to quality and a movement into there to send rates significantly lower, but until we see that, it looks like well pop through the 1 and then go to 150 so be careful of a rate rise here. Its the reflation trade thats going to happen in 2021. Thats what i believe is going on here so watch that 1 level here. Guys, good stuff. Have a good weekend. Ill see youext nweek all right. Well take a quick break and come back and do final trades next i have an idea for a trade. Oh yeah, you going to place it . Not until im sure. Why dont you call Td Ameritrade for a strategy gut check . Whats that . You run it by an expert, you talk about the risk and potential profit and loss.
