President Trump Holding rallies in four of them today. North carolina, michigan, wisconsin and mustwin pennsylvania Vice President biden making time in pa. A live look in pittsburgh where the former Vice President is about to get some celebrity backup from lady gaga at a drivein rally while biden focuses on pennsylvania. Former president obama is on the ground in georgia and florida. Both states voted for candidate trump in 2016 but the polls now show very tight races. President trump firing up a crowd in travers city, michigan, before heading to wisconsin for another rally. Were covering all the angles in both campaigns ali vitali following the biden camp but lets begin with jeff bennett, hi, jeff. The Trump Campaign counting on an election day surge tomorrow to help fuel his path to reelection the Trump Campaign is drawing some confidence in these large crowds the president has been pulling as he campaigns across the country despite the polls showing him behind people spent seven or eight hours in the cold. Hes wrapping up his speech here behind me. You can look at how a campaign views its own standing based on the ways in which they view their final hours. President trump largely on defense trying to defend turf from joe biden in pennsylvania, North Carolina, he has two stops here in michigan back in 2016. President trump won michigan by fewer than 11,000 votes. So what the campaign is banking on is that come tomorrow they have some projections, they say, that they show a two to one margin that Trump Supporters showing up on election day, they hope, will eat into whatever advantage democrats may have with that early vote shep Geoff Bennett covering the president. Now to ali vitali with the Biden Campaign hi, ali. Reporter hey, shep joe biden finishing tonight capping off Election Night eve in pittsburgh for a drivein rally with lady gaga this comes after he spent some time in ohio an aggressive state for them despite the fact it has a history of going red pennsylvania is the place he spent the most time in the general election and it is where he is kapg things off before going back there tomorrow as well he and his running mate effectively split up the state hes out in the western part and Kamala Harris in the east and the all important suburbs. While they were up in the northeast, former president barack obama took on the south georgia and florida bringing this message listen here in south florida, you see these ads. Joe paling with communists, paling with social you think he was having coffey with castro every morning. Dont fall for that. Joe Biden Joe Biden served as a senator from delaware. He was my Vice President i think wed all know if he was a secret socialist by now. Shep, barack obama clearly relishing this attack dog role hes taken on the last few weeks on the campaign trail combatting that attack line of socialism against this democratic ticket in these closing hours the Biden Campaign is making one clear point that really transcends partisanship at this point which is that they believe that every vote should be counted and vote counting doesnt stop at midnight on Election Night thats not partisan spin, thats the way elections work, shep battle grounds decide elections of course. Cnbc is there. Frank holland live in pennsylvania Brian Sullivan in michigan first, Contessa Brewer live in florida with seniors who could lead the way in the villages hey. Reporter hi, shep. Half of the registered voters in this state are boomers or older. Retirement haven the villages brands itself floridas friendliest hometown but i found out that is not the case when politics comes up. Graduated in 69. Dont let politics listen why would you want a draft dodging pervert hes not a pervert. How many times has he been married. Read my buttons, girl here, read my buttons. Reporter well, vocal democrats are a new phenomenon here every week ed mcginty is out waiving his signs trying to turn the tide of trumpism often hes a voice crying in the wilderness since february ive been sitting out here with three or four people. Theyve been here to support me. Reporter residents here are mostly white and mostly republican 68 of them voted for trump in 2016 in 2020, everywhere you look the enthusiasm for trump. Four more years reporter is apparent. The people weve talked to and seen, theyre very strongly for trump. Im very happy what he has done so far in many ways. Reporter but democrats have been working to peel away that support. Republicans working to shore it up both President Trump and Vice President mike pence have made recent Campaign Stops in the villages still, mcginty swears you can hear change in the wind. If you hear beep, beep, beep like youve heard a lot of, thats biden if you hear, honk, thats a trump person thats a biden person. Reporter nationally the latest nbc wall street journal poll shows biden with a 23 point lead among seniors, but with florida seniors, hes neck in neck. Thanks, contessa. Another key demographic, suburban women sending out their surrogates ivanka trump on the trail in michigan and iowa. Dr. Jill biden in erie and pittsburgh the president won that group by 16 points back in 2016 now the former Vice President leads suburban women by 23 points thats according to a Washington Post abc news poll cnbcs Frank Holland has been talking to suburban women in pennsylvania frank, what are the issues driving their vote reporter shep, the economy to social issues the women we spoke to in the suburbs, theyre deeply divided on the issues that matter to them 900 registered voters here in pennsylvania women in the suburbs, especially around philadelphia, are seen as the key to winning this battleground state we sat down with four democrat and four republican women. The republican women told us their top issues are the economy, the Supreme Court and law and order. Being 40 minutes away from philadelphia, which im sure you all know whats going on, the fact that law and order doesnt seem to be important right now and the defund the police is its just mind blowing i mean, that alone to me is the biggest reason why im voting for him. The taxes went down the fuel prices, the oil prices affected every single expense line on my report and i made more money during the administration of trump than i did in obama and obama i actually was on the verge of having to shut down. On the other hand, the Democratic Women we spoke with said social justice, lgbtq rights and the confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett and how it could affect health care are their top concerns. The biggest thing influencing who im voting for in this election is racial tension and hoping for more immunity in the United States. I think joe biden has the chance to bring in more unity. Im incredibly concerned that there is a court case in front of the Supreme Court that relates to obamacare and that she has said she will rule against that and that i am terrified for our country all of the people who will be kicked off of health care and what that means for everybody. Reporter and as we count down to election day here in this battleground state, the governor of the state releasing a new psa. It may take time to get the States Election results there are more than 3 million mailin ballots votes. The last stop for President Trump tonight, kent county, michigan same stop as his final rally before victory four years ago. The president behind in michigan in most of the polls this time Detroit Free Press showing him down 7 margin of error plus or minus 4, but some polls were wrong in 2016 in fact, just days before that election now President Trump was behind in the same Free Press Poll by 4 before going on to win the state. Cnbcs Brian Sullivan live in grand rapids brian, what is it about kent county thats so important reporter this county exemplifies exactly the change in michigan and maybe the country, shep. This was reliably red for decades. Its gerald fords hometown, for petes sakes weve seen more voters moving to the suburbs. It has become more blue. They voted for a democratic governor in Gretchen Whitmer for the first time in decades in kent county. If you look at how michigan is going to go you have three counties, this one, macomb and miskegan if you think that is close, shep, when you look at the state of michigan all together, donald trump winning in 2016 by just 10,704 votes compare that to obama who beat romney by 450,000 votes in 2012. The key is, will that formerly blue, maybe blue collar or union worker, will they continue to stay red with trump or go back to the blue like biden is hoping well find out tomorrow. Only half the county has voted early. Big day tomorrow. Brian, thanks now the big question, whos going to win well do the lawsuits and the mail problems later, preparing for unrest and visit the battle grounds. First, what do the numbers tell us steve kornacki, new numbers. 97 million americans have already voted. Walk us through the map right now. Yes really interesting, shep, because theres a difference nationally the poll average is high, Single Digits our nbc wall street journal poll has biden ahead by 10, but check out swing state numbers from the new cnbc change polling. Take these in two different groups michigan, wisconsin, pennsylvania remember, trump barely won all three of these in 2016 theyve got a 7point lead in a new poll for biden in michigan 8 in wisconsin and then 5, a little bit closer in pennsylvania. So it is no accident the Trump Campaign has been spending so much time and money in pennsylvania lately, because they have to win at least one of these three states and they clearly see pennsylvania as their ripest target here again, the poll finding biden ahead by 5 trump must win pennsylvania tomorrow to have a chance in the electoral college. He has to do more than that as well next tier of swing states, really these are all mustwin, arizona, North Carolina, florida. Look closer, only 3 points is the biden lead in arizona, 2 in North Carolina, 3 in florida so from trumps standpoint, hes up against it in pennsylvania, but if he could get a win there, hes not that far off in the next level of swing states youve got to win them all no margin for error here, but when you look at the swing state polls, its narrow but you do see a path that still exists barely for the president steve, what does the data tell us about why people are voting the way they are . We have new numbers from our Cnbc Change Research Poll . This is really interesting, too. What is motivating voters here on this question of trump voters, is your vote more for trump overwhelmingly thats whats getting them out there. Some small number say against biden. Heres where it gets out there more of them, a majority of biden voters say theyre not really voting for biden as much as theyre voting against trump. 46 say theyre voting for biden. Whether youre a democrat or republican, this is an election about donald trump whats the most important reason for voting sort of an openended question here the number one answer that came back from biden voters, to get rid of trump 2 3 said getting trump out of office is whats motivating them trump voters, whats the number one thing motivating them . Its the idea that democrats will push socialist policies a majority of trump voters pointing to that. Today i heard James Cargill tell Andrea Mitchell that well know a winner tomorrow night by 10 p. M do you agree with that or do you think this is a drawn out process . Well, its possible but i dont know if id bet on it. If we do know, its because of florida, georgia, or North Carolina those states are going to report a lot of states early. If biden wins one of those early, that could be a firm answer. Thank you hope youll all join us tomorrow for the vote special Election Night of the news and then its your money, your vote. Cnbcs all night live coverage of poll closings, decisions. Reporter regeneron started the work on its covid antibody drug way back in january, here at its headquarters in terry town, new york its moved at record speed, but still the manufacturing process for each batch takes a total of three to four months why . These drugs are grown in living cells derived from the ovaries of chinese hamsters. It sounds crazy, but these cells are commonly used in biotech manufacturing. Theyre grown in a series of bioreactors that start small and get all the way up to big tanks like you might see in a brewery except much cleaner. Then they start churning out the antibodies that lengthy and controlled process is why regeneron has 50,000 doses available whenever the fda gives the green light. Lady gaga about to join joe biden for a drivein rally in pittsburgh President Trump has two moralied tonight, kenosha, wisconsin, grand rapids, michigan big news out of texas. A traditionally republican strong hold that nbc news now calls a tossup a federal judge today rejected a republican push to throw out 127,000 ballots in Harris County, including houston, ballots that were dropped off at a drivethrough voting place Harris County is a strong hold for democrats and has the most residents of any county in the state. A group of gop candidates and an activist argued that drivethrough voting stations violate the u. S. Constitution. A judge ruled against them saying they didnt have standing to sue in short, the votes will count nbcs garrett hake is following the case in houston now. Garrett . Reporter hey, shep two wins in two days for Harris County and for the 127,000 voters who cast their ballots through drive throughs a federal judge agreeing with the texas Supreme Court which dismissed in the same lawsuit at the state level over the weekend. This means that those 127,000 ballots will count and the judge did say that if youre going to vote in Harris County tomorrow, he urged people to vote the oldfashioned way, to not use the drivethroughs, but those ten drivethrough locations set up by the county clerk as a pandemic safety precaution will still be available and operational tomorrow should they see fit. This is a state that came down to 250,000 votes or so in total in the senate race two years ago. Every one of those 127,000 votes could count. Shep, this isnt necessarily over yet the plaintiffs in this case, republican lawmakers and activists, have indicated they plan to file an appeal moving this up the chain in federal courts although its hard to see how another federal court would decide to potentially throw out the courts after a lower court and the texas Supreme Court said they should stand, were in the middle of aen election. The Postal Service feeling the pressure ordered to take extraordinary measures to return ballots on time and there are a lot of them out there. Almost 32 million have not been listed as returned that according to the u. S. Kayla tausche is here. How are they dealing with this reporter federal judge Emmitt Sullivan ordered them to reiterate in writing the extraordinary measures thats if taking requiring them to use the Fastest Network available to process ballots, to establish separate retail and drivethrough lines for ballot postmarks and to collect and process ballots outside of normal business hours, that includes early processing in the morning and late handoffs with boards of elections. The order comes after the Postal Service said that on time ballot delivery was slowing just days before the election. On wednesday the Postal Service had a processing score of 97 for delivering ballots but by saturday that had deteriorated daily to 91 and was worse in some swing states. In the great lakes region, which includes battleground wisconsin and michigan, the score was 6 Percentage Points lower. The post office releasing the data as part of an ongoing lawsuit filed by the naacp in a filing today responding to questions about socalled problem areas, the usps said detroit, greater michigan, central pennsylvania, colorado, wyoming are among the areas where service is impacted because of covid19 and, quote, employee unavailability. Now at this stage of the game Election Officials are cautioning about dropping absentee or mailin ballots in the mail urging them to submit them in person instead shep kayla, thanks. The counting of mailin ballots can and will take some time in some states. The reason is the state set the rules and theyre different everywhere nothing nefarious, nothing unusual. Its how the system works. Whats new and awful is the pandemic michael veschlaw, thank you. Pleasure, shep. Covid of course has changed the course of human events in so many ways. Historically, is there something comparable that so changed the course of human events so dramatically but from which we survived, even thrived eventually hard to think of Something Like this. You know, the obvious comparison is the influenza pandemic of 1918, 1919 that was 675,000 deaths. It didnt change the course of poll tux because that took place within Woodrow Wilsons second term by the time the next president was installed, which was warren harding, in 1921. That was but a memory. Theres so much disinformation and misinformation surrounding the process this year, something thats new and kind of foreign to me. I wonder if historically theres anything comparable . No. You have not had a situation where a president has said i have a real worry that this is not going to be a legitimate election in fact, i am thinking about very seriously lawsuits beginning on Election Night. Hes predicted this will go to the Supreme Court. That is something we havent seen before. The real test of this election, shep, is going to be ten years from now if americans will say, you know, i hliked who was elected, i dont like who was elected but it was a fair and accurate election. If not, its a big amount of damage for our democracy for a long time to come. I wonder if you think our credibility on these matters is on the line here absolutely. What our country has always been is a country that says we have the best system on earth, which is a democracy we have free elections that other countries should emulate if we had an election that seemed to be flawed or in some ways corrupt that allamericans cant get behind, thats going to be very hard for us to say that were the last best hope of human kind as jefferson said the president could have tried to expand his base, as most president s do after they won an election. He made a decision in the early going to do that and never tried. Is there anything historically that says president s who do that can go ahead and win anyway . Its very tough Andrew Johnson did that. Was a racist and had policies that were extremely divisive he got impeached he was basically thrown out by his own party but normally just as youre saying, shep, a president wants to unify the country and also for his own selfish political reasons wants to expand his base for whatever reason donald trump from the very beginning as you have suggested has taken a point of view that i want to make sure people have voted for me, still happy with me, maybe i can get reelected that looks very problematic.
