CMP National Matches to return in July
New protocols in place to ensure safety
CAMP PERRY - One of the region’s most popular competitive sporting events will be making its return this summer after the year off in 2020 due to COVID-19.
The Civilian Marksmanship Program recently announced plans for its 2021 National Matches, of which both rifle and pistol events will be held at Camp Perry from July 12-Aug. 14.
“These matches date back to 1903 and have been held at Camp Perry since 1906,” said Judith Legerski, board chairman of the Civilian Marksmanship Program, or CMP.
Last year, however, even the historical imperative of maintaining the National Matches was overridden by concerns for the health and safety of all those involved with the matches, such as the many competitors, vendors, military, volunteers and staff, Legerski said.
