Cleveland Rape Crisis Center says continued delays in jury trials due to coronavirus pandemic presents unique challenges to sexual assault victims

Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court is preparing to hold trials on Monday, Sept. 21, 2020, for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic began in March.
CLEVELAND, Ohio — As the year ends with a suspension of jury trials in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court, advocates worry that survivors of sexual assault whose cases impacted by the delay could be left feeling ignored.
Cleveland Rape Crisis Center Chief Advocacy Officer Teresa Stafford and Alisa Alfaro, who became an advocate herself after Cleveland Heights police posted a police report identifying her as a victim of sexual assault on its website, called on the courts to do everything possible to keep cases moving forward.
