Clarks Shoes warehouse workers in Somerset have ended an all-out two month-long strike after defeating the company’s attempt to impose dramatically worse pay and conditions and effectively derecognise their union. Management wanted to reduce the standard rate of pay from £11.16 an hour to the minimum wage of £8.92. After the workers launched their dispute, they shifted to £9.50 – but of course the minimum wage will rise to £9.50 next April.
