WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Officials have rescheduled a discussion between city and county leaders on joining diversity efforts as the debate of “A Community for All” resolution continues.
The document, which has been a lightning rod for controversy among residents, has had numerous revisions since it was first introduced last summer by the county’s Diversity Affairs Commission following the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis. It’s original name was “No Place For Hate.”
The title later evolved into “A Community for All” with an emphasis on sending a message to marginalized and minority groups that they are welcome to make a living in the county. But some were taken back by the language in the declaration which they said could have opened the door for the redistribution of property or wealth, concerns that those in the county said were unfounded.
