MORE than 2,000 young people have received a present this Christmas thanks to an appeal to recycle gifts.
Yorwaste’s Reuse Santa Appeal was launched alongside North Yorkshire County Council and City of York Council, calling on the public to donate good quality, used toys, games, books and puzzle.
From late November through to mid-December, site operatives at Yorwaste’s 22 household waste recycling centres, including Malton, Pickering and Kirkbymoorside, received an unprecedented number of donations.
No Wrong Door, which supports young people who are within or on the edge of the care system, was initially the primary charity to receive and distribute the donated items. However, due to the enormous response, Yorwaste has also been able to supply donations to more organisations, including Barnardo’s, BHF Northallerton and Daisy Chain Project.
