If there’s ever been a golden age of takeout we’re living in it, but ordering out for food can also be a controversial topic. There’s been a lot of buzz about the high commissions charged by third-party delivery services like Skip The Dishes and Uber Eats, which can make delivery a losing proposition for traditional bricks and mortar restaurants that don’t have their own delivery staff.
It’s something that businesses balked about in pre-pandemic times, but when delivery comprised such a small part of most full-service restaurants’ business, the odd third-party order wasn’t that big of a deal. Now, with takeout comprising 100 per cent of Calgary restaurants’ traffic, many have reached out to the public to ask them to choose curbside pickup rather than delivery to help protect their already thin profit margins.
