WITH COVID NUMBERS TRENDING IN A POSITIVE DIRECTION HERE ON THE CENTRAL COAST.. ONE LOCAL HOSPITAL WAS ABLE TO MARK A MAJOR MILESTONE TODAY IN THE FIGHT AGAINST COVID.. WITH MORE ON THE HOSPITAL AND HOW IT MARKED THAT MILESTONE.. WE GO TO ACTION NEWS 8 REPORTER FELIX CORTE LIVE IN SALINAS.## DAN.. WE'RE TALKING ABOUT THE COMMUNITY HOSPITAL OF THE MONTEREY PENINSULA.. WHICH TODAY MARKED THAT MILESTONE BY TAKING DOWN IT'S COVID TRIAGE CENTER.. (casy 20:37 it's such a celebration that we've finally gotten here :39) a tent being dismantled typically isn't newsworthy.. but this one marks a covid milestone for the community hospital of the monterey peninsula.. the tent is coming down exactly one year after it went up.. shortly after the pandemic was declared.. (casey 21:04 we were basically living, eating and breathing and covid meaning the majority of patients we were seeing were covid if they didn't have covid we really wanted to make sure they won't exposed to other patients with covid :15) the tent served as an outdoor covid triage and was used to screen people who did not appear critically ill but had covid like symptoms.. with covid numbers trending in the right direction it was time to bring the tent down.. (casey 22:28 we're really seeing a drastic change in the percentage of patients that are covid positive compared to the general population :35 and the extent to which our hospital is full of covid patients :39) at the peak of the covid surge.. chomp had 71 covid patients in it's ER.. as o friday it only had 4.. with just one in the ICU.. doctors say other than the arrival of the covid vaccine.. the tent coming down is a major milestone in the fight against covid.. (susan 15:34 and this is the big second glimmer of we have fought this and if we keep staying true to what we know is right and what we know works I think that in 3 to 6 months we're going to see even more wins on this pandemic :51) AND DOCTORS EMPHASIZE WE'RE HEADED IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.. THIS IS NOT A TIME TO LET OUR GAURD DOWN.. WE MUST CONTINUE TO STRICTLY FOLLOW COVID SAFETY PRECAUTIONS.. DAN.. FELIX.. WE KNOW OTHER HOSPITALS HERE ON THE CENTRAL COAST SET UP SIMILAR OUTDOOR COVID TRIAGE TENTS.. WHAT DO WE KNOW ABOUT THOSE??? WE KNOW THAT HAZEL HAWKINS IN HOLLISTER AND SALINAS VALLEY MEMORIAL HOSPITAL IN SALINAS BOTH SET UP SIMILAR TENTS. A SPOKESWOMAN FOR SVMH SAID THEY ARE OOH SO CLOSE TO BRINGING THEIR'S DOWN.. THEY'RE EVALUATING IT ON A DAY TO DAY BASIS.. AS OF THIS AFTERNOON WE HADN'T HEARD BACK FROM HAZEL HAWK
