据德国电视一台报道，10月1日，绿党和自民党将首先展开对话；10月2日，自民党将与联盟党举行对话，绿党则将举行小型党代会；10月3日，社民党将分别同自民党和绿党举行对话。对此，社民党秘书长克林拜尔当天强调，社民党不存在“备选方案”，将全力争取“交通灯联盟”(即社民党、绿党、自民党三党联合执政)组阁。
