The three-story building will be called Holocene Chicago and it is set to open this fall.
Holocene is far bigger than the usual downtown pop-up and represents a bet on the post-pandemic return to shopping and downtown activity. Retailers and vendors in the 135,000-square-foot space will be rotated on a quarterly basis in an effort to keep customers coming back.
There will also be space for demo kitchens and other events, such as author talks or beauty brand makeovers, live classes and more.
“It was obvious to us that retail has changed, particularly in Chicago, and we saw this as an opportunity to bring life back to shopping downtown in a different way," Craig Golden, co-owner of 16 on Center and principal of Blue Star Properties, said in a statement. “There needs to be more to get people to come out and experience the joys of human interaction, hands-on discovery and the entertainment of shopping again.”
