MOSCOW -- Radiation victims under treatment for the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear reactor plant disaster Friday pressed their hunger strike for better conditions as the Ukraine's Parliament decreed April 26 'Chernobyl Tragedy Day.'
The hunger strikes began at the Institute of Medical Radiology in the Ukrainian town of Kharkov and spread among outpatient victims who could not gain admission to hospitals because there are not enough beds.

The Soviet news agency Tass said 120 patients were on hunger strike and 280 others from the nearby city of Izum were expected to join the protest. The strikers are seeking better medical treatment and improved social benefits.
