Chelmsford school board debates changing close-contact policy

CHELMSFORD -- The School Committee will decide on proposed changes to the district's close-contact policy -- with an eye toward helping struggling students, and avoiding unnecessary quarantines. 
The School Committee will ask the Health Department to attend a meeting to answer questions before voting on any policy changes. 
The School Committee had a sometimes-tense debate at a Feb. 2 meeting about the way forward. 
The debate followed an update from Superintendent Jay Lang, who lamented delays in educators receiving vaccinations in the state's timeline.
Lang said vaccinating staff is crucial to a return to fulltime, and the district has more than 700 staff members signed up to receive the vaccine.
