LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Charter Communications on Thursday announced plans to deliver high-speed internet to about 143,000 Wisconsin homes and businesses.
Charter will invest $500 million of private funds and $168 million in Federal Communications Commission Rural Digital Opportunity Funds to provide gigabit high-speed broadband to areas that need it in our state.
The new network will offer mostly rural customers 1Gbps high-speed broadband access, with starting speeds of 200 Mbps, enabling them to engage in remote learning, work, telemedicine and other online activities that require high-bandwidth, low-latency connectivity. Charter says it will continue to apply policies including no data caps, modem fees or annual contracts.
