WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — A man who was shot by a Waterloo police officer after he threatened sheriff's deputies with what appeared to be a rifle or shotgun was charged Thursday with two counts of assault on a peace officer.
Marcelino Alvarez-Victoriano, 44, was shot Wednesday after officers responded to a call that a man with a long gun was walking toward downtown Waterloo, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation said.
When a Black Hawk County sheriff's deputy encountered him, Alvarez-Victoriano pointed the weapon at him and advanced toward him, according to a complaint filed in the case by DCI agent Scott Reger.
