Channel 8 WMTW and Maine’s CW partnered with the American Red Cross Maine Chapter for a January blood donation drive. In Greater Portland, the donations exceeded expectations when over 3,150 units of blood were achieved on a goal of nearly 2,500. Throughout the state of Maine, additional collections boosted that total to above 4,600 units on a goal of more than 3,900.“What a success story and a time that our community needs it the most. It’s our honor to share in the effort — through the work we do in covering the stories in our newscasts, on-air blood drives or public service announcements to spread the word on critical needs — it’s about giving a hand up and getting the message out,” said Dave Abel, WMTW/WPXT president and general manager.“On behalf of the Red Cross workforce in Maine, and throughout our entire Northern New England Region, thank you! We are so very grateful to have partners like Channel 8 WMTW and Maine’s CW sharing the Red Cross mission, expanding awareness of the needs in our communities, and motivating individuals to take action in support of our mission,” said Ronda Ferreira, executive director, Southern Maine Chapter of the American Red Cross.Appointments to make a blood donation are always welcome and can be made by visiting the Red Cross' website.
