The National Executive Committee (NEC) elections in the civil service union PCS have resulted in sweeping gains for the Coalition for Change, spearheaded by the PCS Independent Left (IL) and the Broad Left Network (BLN), against the long (mis)ruling Left Unity (LU). Although LU retained the Presidency, Change candidates, who fought on a principled programme focussed on the critical problems facing members, took three of the four Vice Presidents and sixteen of the thirty Ordinary NEC posts. Going into the election LU had held all but a handful of the NEC posts.
