A rupture of the prepubic tendon, an uncommon but serious condition that can occur in late pregnancy in mares, can be difficult to confirm, an equine science specialist says.
Erica Gee, an associate professor in equine science at New Zealand’s Massey University, discusses the condition in the latest issue of
Equine Disease Quarterly.
The prepubic tendon extends from the brim of the pelvis and joins with the abdominal muscles to support the abdomen and abdominal organs.
