The Lahore High Court on Tuesday has sought a reply from the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) and other parties on the petition against the appointment of Chairman Mirza Saleem Baig.
According to the details, the bench conducted a hearing on the petition filed by Zaheer Uddin Babar, Anchor BOL News. The Federal Government, PEMRA, DG PEMRA, and Chairman PEMRA Saleem Baig have been made parties in the petition. Abuzar Salman Niazi Advocate appeared on behalf of the petitioner.
The petition states that “Mirza Saleem Baig has been illegally appointed as Chairman PEMRA, the Absar Alam case and the decision of the Supreme Court were also not taken into consideration while appointing the Chairman PEMRA.” According to the petition, “Chairman PEMRA’s educational qualifications also do not match the newspaper advertisement, Saleem Baig holds an MA in Political Science whereas the advertisement that was issued for the Chairman’s appointment, required finance and law as the educational background. The petitioner requested that the appointment of Saleem Baig should be declared as contradictory to the decisions of the High Court and the Supreme Court. The petition also requested the court to remove Chairman PEMRA Mirza Saleem Baig from office.
