File photo CEBU CITY - The Cebu City Health Department (CCHD) said the inoculation of children aged 5 to 11 resumed on Wednesday after the city suspended the vaccination for two days due to lack of jabs supply. On Tuesday, the Department of Health (DOH) in Central Visayas approved to use the allocation supposedly for the second dose so that inoculation of the kids here could continue. In a phone interview, CCHD head Dr. Jeffrey Ibones said they stopped the inoculation of the pediatric population after the vaccine ran out on Monday due to the high turnout of children whose parents sought their protection against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19). Ibones said vaccination sites running out of doses of jabs in the course of inoculating the younger age group is a "good sign" that parents wanted their kids to get protected against the virus. "We are thankful to the parents for deciding to send their children for vaccination. The turnout is overwhelming," he said. On the first day of the rollout last Monday, the city inoculated more than 500 kids aged 5 to 11 and on the second day, the number increased to more than 800 until the vaccine ran out. Ibones said chief pathologist of DOH-7, Dr. Mary Jean Loreche, assured to address the concern on lack of vaccine supply for the kids and the replacement of the doses originally for the second dose to those who were jabbed last week but were used for the first jabs. The vaccine for the age group is a specially-prepared 10 microgram Pfizer jabs to be administered at 0.2 milliliters. The city has registered over 10,000 children aged 5 to 11 eligible for vaccination. (PNA) }
