Located between Albany and New York City is 700,000 acres of beautiful mountain scenery of the Catskill Park. The park is mostly New York state-managed forest preserve within the Catskill Mountains that sits west of the Hudson River and contains more than 30 peaks above 3,500 feet. It was settled by the Dutch and was used early on as a rural escape for the first vacationers out of New York City. In addition to being a beautiful stretch of land, the Catskill Mountains area is full of various boutique accommodations with rustic touches and dazzling views. With the Catskills being a short drive from the Capital Region, it’s not uncommon to hear buzz from locals about heading out to the "hills" to grab a bite to eat from Phoenicia Diner or to hike Kaaterskill Falls on a nice day, but don’t rule it out as a quick overnight escape. The lodging and the amenities can be an incredible experience by itself.
