The Springfield City Council has taken no action on a resolution in support of landing a casino license for the downtown area. But aldermen have heard from several opponents of the idea.
A local minister and an anti-gambling activist were among those addressing the Council’s Committee of the Whole meeting Tuesday night, warning that a casino would create more social problems from chronic gamblers, and would siphon money away from existing local businesses.
After hearing those comments, aldermen took no further action on the resolution, which remains on hold in committee.
