LAKELAND, Fla. -- Don’t expect Detroit Tigers prospect Casey Mize to be pumping 96 mph or 97 mph on a consistent basis in a “normal start.”
But Sunday wasn’t normal. He was coming out the bullpen, he was only pitching two innings and, yes, he’s fighting for a spot on the roster.
“That’s just the adrenaline coming out of the pen,” said Mize, whose fastball normally sits about 94 mph. “During the season, as a starter, you definitely won’t be seeing that.”
