MAIMANA, Afghanistan, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) -- At least two soldiers have been confirmed dead and five others injured as a car bomb went off next to a checkpoint of the national army in Dawlat Abad district of the northern Faryab province on Tuesday, an army spokesman in the northern region Mohammad Hanif Rezai said.
According to the official, the blast took place in the wee hours of Tuesday next to a checkpoint of the national army in the restive Dawlat Abad district, killing two soldiers and injuring five others.
However, Rezai confirmed that dozens of houses and shops nearby the blast site were destroyed or badly damaged.
