Stan Rogers stamp (CNW Group/Canada Post)
Canada Post is set to immortalize a beloved folksinger from Nova Scotia.
The Crown corporation has unveiled a stamp celebrating Stan Rogers.
Rogers remains a legend in Canso, where he spent his summers as a young boy. The community near Cape Breton still hosts a festival every summer which bears his name.
Rogers is known for anthems such as Barrett’s Privateers and Northwest Passage.
Known for his lively stage performances, Rogers’ songs were deeply personal, recounting the experiences, joys, and sorrows of ordinary Canadians.
He attracted a growing following with the 1976 release of his first album, Fogarty’s Cove, and the raucous sea shanty, “Barrett’s Privateers.”
