Some cicada run-ins are so traumatic, they turn into award-winning stories.
That's what happened to Franklin songwriter Jeff Crossan, who penned the children's book "I Ate a Cicada Today."
The Tennessean covered Crossan's book in 2015, when it won the Gold Mom’s Choice Award from the Mom’s Choice organization. 
Cicadas' 'Indiana Jones'
A Mount St. Joseph University professor of biology and dean of behavioral sciences was dubbed the 'Indiana Jones of Cicadas' for his wealth of knowledge about the critter.
Gene Kritsky has developed an app called 'Cicada Safari,' where users can track cicadas in their local area.
